I have a feeling this is in reaction to what happened in 2009 holiday season with Zou Zou Pets toys. If you are not aware they are these stupid little fuzzy hamsters that run on batteries and sell for about $7 full retail. They were scarce and the "in toy" for 2009. People were on line at stores and stampeding to get some for their kids.

Amazon Marketplace sellers suddenly popped up selling these for multiple times the full retail value.

I recall a discussion thread on an Amazon chat board calling for Amazon to do something about the price fixing. This was from a customer not a seller.

In any event, it seems to me this new Amazon policy will keep out newbie sellers who seek to rip people off such as with fad toys and high prices, and it hopefully will increase customer confidence in the Marketplace sellers too if only experienced, reliable Marketplace sellers sell toys in the holiday season.

They've been doing this for several years, and it doesn't look like any of the qualifications have changed. I get these emails each year and am approved to sell in the toy category -- although I don't sell toys. Since I'm a longtime seller, I've been automatically approved for this category -- whether I want to be or not -- each time they announce this.

I'm glad to see a post here.

Single Booklovers was a service before computers. People who enjoyed books (more than enjoyed, books were a big portion of their lives), could 'connect' with others who also enjoyed books. Problem was, for many booklovers, there were geeky guys (before geeks were cool computer people) who were looking for some fast sex just like they saw on t.v., and just figured a book loving female would be thrilled to go out with them.

I wonder if any of that changed with an online format?

I did hear of a wonderful marriage from two book lovers who met through single booklovers, but for the most part, many experiences were like my own. I met several of these strange thinking individuals, and only one attorney who lived cross country from me. We wrote for a year, as friends, until he met a local woman who didn't like the idea of him writing to a woman in NY.

Still, it was fun thinking another person who enjoyed books might be out there. As it turned out (this was 30 years ago), I met a guy who didn't advertise his love of reading, but turned out to be an intelligent man who reads, and now we share our love of not only reading, but bookselling. I met him in the sound/lighting booth of a community theatre. Now, who woulda tho't!

Easy solution. Just have a volunteer or commission person scan the books for the library and sell the ones online that fetch prices of $15 or more. Pay the commission person half the money or just expenses to the volunteer.

The FOL gets more $ per book for the really good ones, the dealers stop coming to the sales, and the sale goes back to being a peaceful , fun event that your kids won't get trampled in.

Hey,

I was searching for methods to remove stickers off my Textbooks - and I got to your site - and I wanted to thank oh so much for these tips. Here's what I did, and found it to be the best (I combined different tips from sites)

1. I heated the sticker area with a blow dryer.

2. I then used an old brush and dipped it in Goof Off
2a. I brushed the general sticker area
2b. I let it sit for 1 minute at most

3. I used a small scraper (I used a 1" blade) to slowly scrape the sticker off.

4. I rebrushed the entire backside of the book with goof off after I was done
4a. Using a woven fabric cloth or paper towel that's used for cars (usually blue), I rubbed in circles the area where I applied the goof off - it gives it a really clean look.

5. I used WD-40 with some books to see the effects - and I liked it best to use it once the entire cleaning process is off, as it will kind of buffer the book cover.

*Note: BE CAREFUL WITH HEAT & GOOF OFF AS IT IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE.

Double Happiness Records

I have always been interested in all things oriental, and the Double Happiness motif (which is commonly used in China) lent itself to the use of Eastern styling throughout the business's graphics and design, in promotional material and on the web-site.

Secondly the word 'happiness' has obviously positive connotations for customers. Additionally the name functions as a kind of a private joke as I have often been known as being rather dour, though I do have a more humourous side; I was rather making fun of my own personality in choosing this name.
