The one place i wasn’t sure exactly what to do – which was to do exactly what you were saying, the pictures helped. It’s was at step nine. I think this is what I’m going to do for my husband and kids this Valentine. Thanks for sharing how to do this in a way that i could make it.

So sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose someone you love, but memories are such a blessing.

I’ve lost 3 out of 4 grandparents; one when I was 13, one when I was a new mother at 21, and one last year. For me it has gotten harder with each, maybe because we have more of a shared history and a tighter bond? One of my favorite memories with my Grandma is from a few months before she passed away. I was sitting in her hospital room with her, just the two of us, and I sang her a couple of songs. (Growing up she always wanted me to sing to her) She hadn’t spoken to me since she’d been in the hospital because it was a huge effort with her tracheotomy and because of a stroke, but that day I was holding her hand and she had tears in her eyes and whispered “thank you”. I was privileged to be in that same hospital room with her when she left this world.

Our hearts go out to you and your family. I was very close to my Grandfather as well. He lived with us as I was growing up and there are so many fond memories I carry with me always. On his birthday every year I make sure I eat his favorite foods and enjoy his favorite past times as an homage to a beautiful man. His life is always celebrated in each family member’s wonderful memories of him. I hope you are able to celebrate your Grandfather’s life with such stories as well.

I do use moist cake, but you have to use as little frosting as possible for the binding and also, I don’t use a stick, I put them in mini cupcake wrappers or candy cups and pretend they are truffles. Put them in the freezer, dip then put them in the fridge to avoid falling apart.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. My grandfather died when I was 11 (the only one I knew), and I LOVED him to pieces. I was his first grandchild, and my favorite memories I have are of me sitting in his lap at his house when he would smoke his pipe (still to this day love the smell of pipe tobacco…) and watching Transformers and HeMan with him. He was my idol at the time, and when he died, it was the first time I had ever seen my father cry (his son). Miss you Grandpa.

i’m so sorry for your lost. it’s hard to lose someone in your family. and just rem that you are very lucky to have a living grandparent. i know so many ppl that didn’t have the opportunity to have grandparents.

my grandmother is currently very ill and i’m very worried that she will not be with us for a long time. i’m hoping she will get better and be with us for another year or so. i hope to bear her another great grandchild. i visited her everyday before she moved back to new orleans where she wished to be instead of houston. i miss her dearly.

My mom’s parents owned an Airstream trailer. When we were kids, they would take us out of school for a month and take us traveling in their trailer. My grandmother was a teacher so she would get our school work and teach us on the road. They would find a cousin who was similar in age to go with us. When I was 7, my older cousin Brian and I saw Colonial US. I learned so much about American history and it made me really connect with our founding fathers as well as our my grandparents and cousin. As part of our work, my grandmother had us keep a daily log of what we saw and did. It brings back the special memories every time I read it..

My heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my father just 2 days before this last Christmas, I had not seen him for 5 years as I live in Canada and he in Australia. I still feel a great deal of disconnect, even though I was able to go to his funeral and say my goodbyes. I’m home now and still feel as though it’s not real, it all feels like a bad dream. I’m sure that you too will go through this phase.
I found that helping to write the eulogy and then my own little tribute to him helped to bring back my most cherished memories, and also to share those memories, especially as my two children didn’t really get to know him like I did.
I know he’s not my grandpa, but he was a grandparent to my children and will always be remembered as PaPa.

I love meal planning (I do it weekly). I find recipes I love from a variety if blogs I love and tag them in my Google Reader so they are easy to find later. I rarely cook the same thing twice, so every week is a new experiment. I have a humongous chalkboard in my kitchen that the weekly meal plan goes on. If I don’t feel like a certain meal on a certain day, I will sometimes swap days on the fly. For me, visually seeing the meal on the wall helps to keep me on track. We always have one night open for an eat out and one or two nights for leftovers. I try to plan my meals so that ingredients overlap so there is less waste.

There are so many benefits, not only in peace of mind knowing what you are going to cook, but also reducing your food waste, and so saving money every week. You can also optimise your health by preparing to cook from scratch more often. No need to worry about diets and you can go about your week safe in the knowledge that your family is eating healthily!

I am going to check out Cozi and see if I can get more regimented with planning again.! You would think it a breeze for me now that our children are grown and gone…but we are constantly in and out of town…or I am just plain lazy! ha!

The thing that worked best for me was only planning 4-5 meals per week (as Jill mentioned). It wasn’t so overwhelming-a brain & schedule overload when I tried to do more & then I didn’t want to plan again! It also leaves a few days for something spontaneous, as long as I had the staples around.
Love the theme days as well-like Breakfast night, etc. Kids love those. I also like ‘Season’ meals. Soups & raw veggies in winter – Salads, fruit and drinks in summer. Simple.
I also used to plan my meals around what was happening that day. Super easy dinners for days when I knew I was running all day. Or a crock pot dinner for a busy night…but only if I had time that morning to put it together! Otherwise you sabotage your best efforts.
