[...] There may be several sources of traffic for your new website. They may include pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, mailing lists, existing customers, and many others. By far the most important source of traffic for any small business website is organic (unpaid) listings in the search engines. These organic listings can only be achieved by search engine optimisation (SEO). If your new web designer does not know how to get your new website listed organically in the search engines using SEO, get a different web designer – unless of course, you like wasting your money.
I agree with all of this article - website designers can seem like unscrupulous back street car mechanics taking advantage of the unknowing.

But would add a category to the 'Why do you want a website?' list of: "To have something to give existing customers" - great way to save on print and postage.

Thanks for a very clear message (and the one on the back of your car that led me to look at your well written website)

Excellent advice. I am a media buyer and there is one additional point that I would add to your suggestions.... Place the ads regularly. One time running is not a good test. Commit to running your campaign 3-4 weeks at a minimum to be successful!
