Matman - when evaluating the features that we supported in the final version of Soonr, we tried to include things that were not already readily available on most phones. As most smartphones have multiple email options (Exchange, POP, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) we decided to remove the email function in Soonr.

You can still use email in other ways though. For example, you can now email a photo (or other attached documents) from your phone to your Soonr account.

I know it isn't the same as having a direct way to manage Outlook in your desktop from your phone, but unfortunately most people didn't use that function so it was a call we had to make when allocating engineering resources.

We wil make a note of your request and if we hear enough people used that function, we can lobby for it's return. I hope that you find all the other backup, access, and collaboration features of the new version of Soonr compelling additions to your business tools.

3 steps ?? Typical Mac to bloat the work process... :-)

Here are the steps for linux :

1. on command line, type :
sudo mount -t davfs https://vip.soonr.com/webdav /media/soonr

2. when asked for credentials, type your soonr username and password

( for more detailed options, check the davfs website : http://linux.die.net/man/8/mount.davfs )

It can also be done in most linux GUI's - for Ubuntu, select "connect to server" from the "places" menu and go from there

John, those phones are on our list to explore. When someone logs into Soonr our servers will optimize for the phone type. We have seen over 800 phone types on our service. None of the users of Soonr who also logged in with their phone (Soonr also has a browser based version that is used from laptops and PCs) had the mobile login numbers of the iPhone.

We have seen that iPhone users are now a full 25% of our service. That's more than any three other phone models combined. Our suspicion that iPhone users are just much more mobile web savvy has been supported by operators who report that iPhone users use the web 300% more than any other users.

Symbian, WinMo, and Blackberry have all tried to create an application marketplace for their respective platforms, but we just haven't seen the amazing momentum and success as the Apple app store. It's a complex system to put together and Apple got it right, both for the users as well as the developers. I also have to mention that the UI and development environment of the iPhone is also very well done.

With all that said, we do have partners who have asked us to look into the other platforms. Can't promise anything, but we are keeping our eyes and ears open. Also note that you can log into Soonr with any phone with a browser. It has been used extensively with both BB and WinMo.

While the iPhone certainly provides many features that make for an appealing mobile experience, when will Soonr support more business-focused smartphones such as BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile devices? iContact and iDialer (supware.net) are nice examples of how iPhone-like functionality can be provided on Windows Mobile.

[...] Apple has always had this quality of being total control freaks about their usually brilliant notion of user experience. It stems from Steve Jobs, and it has infected the culture to an extent that its probably irreversible. And let’s be clear, we don’t really want to reverse it. The proxy results in fabulous products time after time when other companies struggle just to release a bit of UI face lift or a new OS that’s way better (Microsoft will be extending the availability of Windows XP in case you were worried). But let’s also be clear that emphasizing total dictatorial control over a vision for how it should be is only a very near proxy to Great User Experience. Any time you pursue a proxy rather than the Real Thing, there comes a time of disappointment and perhaps failure.
