Yes a large format camera would be nice but I think Ricky Maynard said it costs him $100 every time he takes a photograph with his. I also like what Kenna brings to the medium format with his Holga, his style is unmistakable but he said in 'Plastic Cameras' that he has always carried the Holga around because it's light and practical. So he's got an extensive portfolio of those as well, that are probably less known.

From what I can gather most landscape photographers use large format film, I used to do film, back when I spent some time at Art School and before, inlcuding doing all my own dark room work (colour, slide and B&W) but I'm a digital girl now, I don't have the money really to do large format, or have the muscles to lug all that gear around...lol. I like the challenge of trying to get what I see onto a good DSLR and learning to do post processing just enough to enhance, not change.

Recently reading that Michael Kenna has always carried a Holga around with him that he's used extensively, too. Have you shot much film? Or primarily digital work?

Ah yes Michael Kenna, I wish I was half as good! I do very much like his minimilistic style, I won't say simple cause simple it sure ain't! my fave is the starters box too although I would prefer to see it as a much much bigger print. The next showing will be at the Hobart Show, so keep an eye out for that one!

Hi Suellen, yes I live on Girrabong... although I don't seem to get out with the camera(s) as much as I want lately. I particularly like 'The Starters Box' - it has a strong Michael Kenna minimalist landscape quality to it. I hear the society shows in Mawson Pavilion early every year for 2 weeks, I'll have to drop into the Pavilion when it's on and have a look.

Thanks Steven for the critique of our first mono exhibition. I was very pleased with your thoughts on my imagery. This is the first time I have exhibited my photographic works so I was quite chuffed indeed to read your words and feel much encouraged. Thank you very much indeed.
I grew up in Lenah Valley, although I live on the "other" side now..perhaps we have crossed paths ?

Ah I've been known to take some photos of the old dead walnut tree at the beginning of the track. There are some nice places I'd like to capture up that way. Maybe I'll bump into you sometime.

Thanks Steven. Yes both my images were night shots. Nothing like a cold Hobart winters night to get you going.
I see from your blog that you live in Lenah Valley, as do I. I also see your into street photography, so I may not see you as I wander the Wellington foothills behind home.
