Hi Bill.
Try Block Bad Queries (BBQ) for blocking bad pings to your website, PHPEnkoder to protect email addresses from scrapers, Secure WordPress to tie a lot of things down, and maybe BulletProof Security. Watch the last two as they're quite brutal, but if they work they'll work well. The recent update to Akismet has also had a sea change in spam I'm getting now - zero!
For front-end management, I've been using Sabre for a long time now, and recently added SweetCaptcha which is cute and works well.

So far so good, but the bad-guy goalposts are always on the move so I'm always trying new plugins....

Perishable Press (link above) are still using a customised block list, which is huge, but for me I don't think I need it......yet.....!

Thanks for the update. I wondered about the amount of work behind it and if it was worth it. I think you can block known spammers within the WP backend. I know I have copied and pasted a list in there. I would like to block junk like that so I know that my stats are accurate although it is also suppose to not track bots and the like.
Thanks again

Thanks Bill. I don't block any IP addresses now as life's too short. However, I block bad queries and the like, plus lock out IP addresses temporarily that keep hitting at non-existent pages. This has made things a lot smoother.

When I was at school, one of my friends called Dave Brown used to have me foxed with the magic tricks that he was learning for his life in magic. I knew the cards didn't disappear; after all, I'm a rational intelligent man.

It's the same with websites and their cons. Just like sleight-of-hand tricks, loaded dice, false documentation or straight smash and grab, it's all the same. It's theft. That's what people have to know and realise.

I must confess that, in addition to my ignorance of these predatory practices, I am an old time net user. Back to an Amiga 1000.

I believe we must allow the net to remain as free as possible as the traditional media falls into the hands of fewer and fewer people. I have learned more in a couple of days, on how these scams operate, on this site than on all the so titled "Scam watcher /fraud" sites put together,

The good news is we have the internet.

The bad news is we have the internet

Having said that, I want to thank you and wish you well.
