Fed up with getting low amounts of useless visitors to your website? Well i want to inform you of a new underground tactic that makes me personally $900 per day on 100% AUTOPILOT. I possibly could be here all day and going into detail but why dont you just check their site out? There is really a excellent video that explains everything. So if your seriously interested in making easy money this is the website for you. Auto Traffic Avalanche

The absence of "public" in this post tells the tale. This is the kind of stagnant 20th century mindset that pr is little private get-together just between pr pros, journalists and c-execs. Their pressrelease-style noise exchange is not PR because it's got nothing to do with public, it's just plain old media relations. With all due respect the author doesnt seem to be aware that there's a whole generation of people who never trusted or even paid attention to traditional media.
All ^ is pure IMHO ofc.

20-something PR student who never read a newspaper in his life.

"The next stellar idea is to direct time-starved journalists to a YouTube video with a message from the CEO making the announcement. Wow! That’s going to save them time and get the message across quickly and accurately isn’t it?"

I love this point - transcribing text from a video is one of the most tedious jobs out there...no journalist is going to bother.

Hey, again, Erica! I just left a very looong comment over at Mashable, so I'm not going to repeat it here, except to reiterate my opinion. You do indeed touch on relationships but even in that section, the article essentially brings it back to press relations, which is not the be-all and end-all of "PR."

If you're open to connecting offline, I'd love to do that, so that I don't bore everyone on these threads. No worries if not.

Hi Shonali! I thought that was an amazing comment, and as I mentioned in my response, I was hoping to express that "the human factor" (i.e. building relationships) is really the most important part of PR. By placing it at the end of the article, though, I may have devalued its importance. Thanks for the feedback!

Stuart. WORD!

Excellently-written rant and now I have something to link to in a post I'm preparing as well. Perhaps what disappointed me most about this was the extremely narrow view of the article that "PR" and "publicity" are synonymous... at least, that's how it came across to me.

As I said in a comment on the post, until we "PR people" are going to stop putting ourselves in boxes, no one else is going to. Want that ruddy seat at the ruddy table? Start thinking strategically and focusing on business objectives, instead of whining about no one listening to you or taking PR seriously (and you know I don't mean YOU, right?).
