Hi,

Loved reading up on your little bit of information and was wondering if you'd be able to help me out.

I went plant shopping in an effort to find a natural way to reduce the amount of fleas and mosquitoes in my little back yard. So upon return from the garden shop, I found I had purchased Thyme, Cat Mint, Chocolate Mint, Sweet Basil, Rosemary, Penny Royals, Onion Chives, Manjoram [sp?] and a few others which I can't remember off the top of my head.

EVERYTHING besides the rosemary is being eaten by tiny [about 1 milimetre by 10mm] little bright green caterpillars [well, they were tiny, I have been picking them off only to go out today and see that I must have missed some because now they are some huge ones too! [about 3mm by 30mm!!]

Any recomendations as to what I can use to rid my herbs of these very hungry little munchers? I have been using a combination spray that has garlic, chilli and pyrithum...but it hasn't stopped these little critters at all!
Thanks for you advice,
Bianca

These sound great, but I read on another forum that someone washed bedsheets with them and the bag got snarled in a sheet and left a (temporary) soapy mark. Their suggestion was to only use them when the bag can agitate freely in the water. How does this go if you use a front loader, where the clothes don't swirl in the water in the same way as a top loader or hand washing?

I love peppermint so I had to give the Made from Earth organic "Tea Tree Shampoo" and "Peppermint Conditioner" a try. I've used Castille soaps before and never really loved the distinct smell they have.

Anyway, the Peppermint Condition er and the Tea Tree Shampoo (from Made from Earth)are amazing and I LOVE the way it smells. And it really is true that you get a bit of tingle from the mint.

I only use sulfate-free washes because they don't make me dry and itchy. Sulfate-free washes are pretty hard to find so do yourself a favor and buy this wash!

I have fine, thin hair and consequently have tried several volumizing shampoos. I find that the Made from Earth "Tea + Protein Shampoo" does truly add volume to my hair, as well as making styling control a bit easier.

And it does have a wonderful scent! I could stand in the shower all day washing my hair with this shampoo! :) I will continue to buy this product over and over again because I've seen it make my hair thicker...its prob the protein making the hair strands stronger.

Plus it chemical free, so there is no harm in using it. Recommended if you are interested in adding more colume to your hair.

Commercial overfishing in some areas is a real concern. And there are species that have been fished at unsustainable levels. But getting accurate data is difficult, given the amount of emotion (often irrational) that surrounds fishing activities.

Many species of fish and other marine life that is claimed to be endangered by Greenpeace and other groups are in fact not endangered at all. Many lies are told about numbers of species, Grey Nurse Sharks being a prime example in Australia.

From what I have seen of the Australian Marine Conservation Society, they are just a glorified, government funded anti-fishing group. They have refused to listen to unbiased scientific evidence on a number of different occasions that I am personally aware of. In fact, they remind me of a slightly less media savvy version of P.E.T.A.

Unfortunately this clouds the real issues, creating an 'us vs. them mentality'. Moreton Bay is a prime example, where commercial and recreational fishing bans have been put in place, even though independent scientific evidence had found these bans to be completely unnecessary (AMCS actually wanted the 'no fishing zones' to cover an even larger area in spite of this evidence). So fishing gets banned, but meanwhile delicate mangrove areas where fish spawn are being destroyed in the name of development, huge amounts of pollution continue to flow into the bay and dredging will soon commence to remove 150,000 tonnes of sand from the Bay to build the 2nd airport runway. The building of which will destroy an environmentally sensitive creek known as a fish breeding area. Yet the Australian Marine Conservation Society say nothing against this.

Did I mention that they are government funded?

Greenpeace are also known for having some very extreme views. Which once again is unfortunate as they also do some good work as well.

Anyway, glad I could share these views with you, and good to hear that you were not taken by any floating handbags whilst up north. Happy to share an alternative view on fishing for future articles, which I hope will not contain any reference to the extremist, anti-fishing AMCS.

Love the site by the way.

Tad disappointed with GreenFest this year. It has become a bit too commercialised, and there weren't as many 'learning' opportunities as there was at the previous festival.

just an FYI so no one else needs to get hurt trying to peel a pet from a glue trap. Poor cooking oil on the trap and the pet or rodent will slide right off the glue. No killing required.

Hi Maria,

Thank you so much for your recommendation - you've certainly piqued my interest. Mmmmmmm, lemon scented, I love lemon... just have to resist the urge to munch on the bottle!

I checked out the Safe Guard Products website and the credentials are certainly attractive to this Sustainability Nut. I'll get some veggie wash today and give it a go.

Thanks again. :)

I have been using veggie wash recently as shampoo and body wash. The brand is called Safeguard. I love it because it smells lemony. I have dry hair and it works great on me. It doesn't tame the unruliness but its much better than so many other shampoos I have used meant to do wonders to your hair! Ingredients include organic aloe vera, citrus essential oils, olive leaf extract, emulsifier (from fruit & berries), glycerine (from vegetable sources) & purified water. Oh and I also use it to wash my puppy. She is fluffy as ever and smells awesome.

Don't expect the wash to be foamy like commercial products but it does the job just as well. The great thing about this product is that it is concentrated (very thick mixture) so a little goes a long way. I usually mix it half part water to half part wash in a squirt bottle. The trick is to get its consistency like shampoo so it won't be difficult to rub on your hair or body. No more spending loads of money on exclusive organic shampoos for me!

Below is the website if you are interested. Hope it helps.......
