Oh, I didn't know, that my link (lesewolke) is displayed at your website. I'm a new blogger. But it doesn't matter! :-)

I attended at your presentation in Leipzig too. It was a very good inspiration! Thank you! I also think that's important to point out that people are the heart of the library and a lot of other things you said.
Greetings from Germany, Liane

"It seems like what counts in the end is that as a personal and professional user that you’re getting as much from the social interaction as possible and if that means its not always connected to your workplace but your teens find you, that’s quite powerful."

Ding ding ding! I love this quote. It is that simple. Talking and interaction leads to friendship. Friendship leads to community. Libraries are community!

On the embed, what's with the pro-life videos that are listed as related at the very end? It gave me pause before deciding to add the video to our website

I'm currently in library school and hoping to become a youth librarian in a public library and I find this fascinating. I already use a lot of social media but I've made the choice to have a personal and slightly more professional blog since I'm not sure yet what are the best ways for my two lives to interact.

I think a lot of that is going to depend on where I end up. Though I've found that my Twitter feed has become a mixture of professional and personal which seems to work fairly well since having two Twitters just feels like a bad way to use the technology to me.

It seems like what counts in the end is that as a personal and professional user that you're getting as much from the social interaction as possible and if that means its not always connected to your workplace but your teens find you, that's quite powerful.

Thank you for sharing this!

Am I a fan of such measures? Not really, but I can understand where they are coming from. They seem like they really want to stop any kind of lawsuits/trouble before it happens. I think that before banning people from sharing online profiles we really need to look at the main problem...which seems to be lack of common sense. We need to educate people about what should and should not be shared!

When I'm sharing my online profiles, I put common sense above everything else. I always think "is this appropriate or will I regret this" before posting. So far, I think it has worked out well.

Catholic school teachers in Western Australia have pretty much been told they are not to use personal social media to interact with students, and the state school body is looking into doing the same.

"Catholic Education Office of WA director Ron Dullard said his schools already banned teachers from becoming friends with students on social-networking websites."

What do you think about such measures and the reasons behind them?
