I think another thing that we have to consider is an entire image overhall. The majority of the United States sees Republicans as bible-thumping right wing extremists who want to rid the world of all sinners by the use of our handguns! The reality of the situation is that we are normal, hardworking patriots who believe that the Government works for us and that it should only be as powerful as we want it to be. The one thing that we have going for us is the fact that most of America is actually Center-Right, but that is not enough to win a favorable image. We need to step back and energize young voters who look at the contrast in age of McCain and Obama and transfer that to the bulk of our party even though we all know that there is no comparison to McCain's abilities when it comes to Obama. No one wants to be linked to their parents when they are young! Heck, most of you wanted your parents to drop you off way before school so that you could walk in with your friends! Does this mean that we have to abandoned our principles to attract young, energized voters? No, it just means that we have to get away from the adage that we are old cronies who preach rather than educate. The democrats have a huge advantage over Republicans when it comes to young voters because of the image that they put up and we need to welcome and educate people of all walks of life and parties so that they can see that we are a group of individuals who have heloped to make this country great. It is all about outreach my friends. We don't need to pat each other's backs because we know that we are right, we need to go out to the bars and streets and show the future leaders of the world that we like Rock n' Roll too!!!

The Contract with America is what we needed, but it faded fast. We need a Newt in Congress, but he bailed out without a fight after being accused of some indiscretion, I forget what it was. The Liberals don't quit after some indiscretion. Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, etc. But, you're right. Conservatives get elected preaching smaller government, but then get caught up in the Washington Power Struggle. Do what's best for my career, not what's best for America.

I agree, and when a Republican gets a little liberal, things go sour. The real divide is Conservatism vs. Liberalism, and of course, most DEMS are liberal. Liberal should be a four letter word. It is negative and the DEMS know it. They even try to change the tag to "Progressive". But, progressive and liberal are not synonyms.

Spending has to be cut. The Executive Branch can advocate that and vetoe, but the Congress has to legislate conservatively. The only way to do that is to vote the Liberals out. Already Barney Frank is talking about raising taxes. He and his associates have lots of ideas on how to spend your money. And yes, it is "Spreading the Wealth". But, somehow, I feel that Barney and his friends will keep enough wealth of their own to live well. Even if some of that wealth is through the back door and not taxed.

I think the best way to reform the Right is to take on Big Government in a profound and aggressive way. Conservatives need to provide a strong counter argument to the Left's positions that America must be reformed, the American people must change, traditional American values are wrong, our economic system is broken, etc. That counter argument in my view is that Big Government is the problem and our political system needs to be reformed. And here is my proposal for re-embracing the Constitution and the ideal of limited government: term limits for all three branches of the Federal Government, a Constitutional limit on the amount of government spending (capped at a specific percenatge of GDP), and the implementation of a consumption-based tax system (e.g. the Fair Tax) including a repeal of the 16th Amendment. We need to force teh Federal Government back into a limited box, or our addiction to government in this country will eventually cause us all to hit bottom.

No question Wall Street will run amok when allowed and pushed by Congress. Social Engineering by Congress certainly rewarded the Lending Institutions for making bad loan decisions. As to reducing the size of Government, it has to begin with Line Item Vetoe. Cut the Pork and enefficient programs. As long as we reelect the "Bums", we can expect the same.

The Economy will remain the number one issue. The McCain camp has to challenge the DEM statement that the current economic problems are caused by 8 years of failed Bush strategy. Weren't the first 6 years pretty good with Consumer Confidence high, regular gas at $2.19/gal, DOW JONES over 14,000. Americans were living high off of the hog.

What happened in 2006? A Democratic Congress started a drastic downward trend. Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Fanny Mae & Freddie Mac, Social Engineering, along with worse than "Risky" loans, have driven our Economy DOWN. NOT 8 years of Bush, but TWO years of Liberal Democrats.

Also, the McCain camp lets O'bama say that only the extremely rich will have tax increases. When he reverses the Bush Tax Cuts, isn't there an significant increase for those making as little as $30,000? When he taxes the profit on all home sales(Capital Gains), aren't the taxes of those sellers being increased? When he raises the tax rates on Dividends, aren't most of our pension funds being devalued? When he restores the Inheritance Tax (On Wealth that already has been taxed),Isn't he raising taxes on our children?

McCain and Palin have to drive these points home. We don't have to get rid of the Economy Issue, We have to put the blame squarely where it belongs.
