George,

Couldn't agree more. Contest, competition, creats good results. I think local designs would push outsiders to do a better job all round.

Connecting the Bayfront to Downtown and the neighborhoods is an important and necessary aspect of the Bayfront Masterplan. The existing Convention Center and hotel, at costs exceeding $80 million dollars will not be economically viable unless synergistic uses such as specialty retail and theme parks are developed and those uses connect as spill over to the Downtown/midtown area. Developers who submit plans for development projects on the Bayfront Plan should participate in the cost of the Pedestrian Bridges. Multi-million dollar pedestrian bridges connecting relatively small number of community members with the Bayfront is a good idea but those residents do not want to pay for the cost of the bridges in increased taxes but would like to have their private walkway and park-like setting but have no idea about how to pay for these beautiful bridges. Getting realistic about major development that is not only required to help the economic viability of the Convention Center but will give the downtown a major economic benefit and provide the money to build these wonderful bridges is a more practical way to benefit the entire community.

A contest to upgrade the architectural integrity and make a cultural statement and set the tone for the Bayfront Development is a great idea
and maybe a local architect will understand our local weather conditions and take into consideration crossing those bridges in the winter months, unlike the design of the parking garage of the hotel next to the Convention Center where there is no direct access to the hotel from the parking garage without going outside the garage to the hotel entrance. This works well in Florida but with a little more thought a simple access to the interior of the hotel would serve the public better in the winter months.

Let us make sure that these bridges are a path to a successful Bayfront Development and not BRIDGES TO NOWHERE......

The concept of a company to oversee the stock brokers and the people selling stocks and investing other people's money is not something I have given a whole lot of thought, but I believe that unless Wall Street comes to grips with this problem I don't see investor's continuing to send third parties their money in the future the same way they have in the past. i certainly gave up that sport years ago. An Erie man, Markopolos, who graduated from Prep. in 1974, told the SEC at many as 10 years ago about the scam that Madoff was pulling on the public.
He has the knowledge, honesty, credibility to form such a company.
My idea that unless a third party company is formed by independent people not tied to Wall Street but just provides the service of Fraud auditing of these firms and reporting those results monthly to the public
any firms not subscribing to this service will find themselves losing business to the firms that agree to use this service and get this independent stamp of results not depending upon the results of the auditors that are PAID BY the same people stealing the money.
The funding could come from a small percentage of each share of stock sold which come from the investors, not WALL STREET.
This concept most likely needs fine tuning or other safe guards
but I don't see Wall Street functioning in the same old way again.
if this passes and investors continue to do the same thing again
the same results will happen again.

I have a 197 acre project just outside of Erie and I am looking into forming a small group, 10 or less, to see if I can attract people who want to share resources, grow food, build energy efficient houses,
we have free gas, natural gas hook ups available, trees, hunting, creek, pastures just 15 minutes from Erie, the problem is getting that many people interested in working together, if not, maybe just a few people that can work together will work, if not, I will do my own program.
The old ways of expensive houses, lots of debts, big toys, over the top living is being deleveraged and the hyperinflation coming soon will make the value of land make this concept viable as the price of land will rise along with other comodities such as gold as the dollar seeks its own value based on wastefullness. Like always, its back to the individual.

So George how do we form that comapny, in Erie, and make us the safty capitol for capital. We have the brain power for this or could easily attract the brain power being laid off in NYC. Having lower home prices could make the transition easier for Eastern wallets with their decreased housing values. Could probibly sell and still buy a house out here with cash.

Nothing the President or Congress has done or proposed will help. The Fiscal Responsibility summit is a disgrace. If I hear, "This isn't a Democrat or Republican problem, " again I'll go crazy. No it is a governmental problem. The government, Demo's and GOP got us into this mess by destroying the money, deficit spending, unconstitutional government, and a massive national debt. Now they're going after contract and the rule of law.

George's mention of the massive frauds reminds me of the old saying, "Who watches the Watchmen?" All the watchmen failed, repeatedly, but why aren't those defrauders in shackels, orange jump suits, with a cellmate named sweet bubba? Why aren't the failed watchmen out of work, disgraced, and having their spouses leave them? Why is it the same cast of characters that got us into this mess still their?

Geither! He's been here from the start of this current mess in the NY Federal Reserve. He's in charge now with no answer, no plan, and no real positive thought. At least FDR was positive!

I hate to say this but revolution may be a possibility in a few years. All the pillars of our civil society are being eaten away. We are becoming a total political economy and those always fail. Maybe we can do the Czech Velvet Revolution thing, but I doubt it. Get ready to speak Chinese and do manual labour for the rest of your natural. America was a nice experiment while it lasted.

WE have to pound Dahlkemper to either return to the rule of law or Constitution or replace her. WE need to let her know their are consequences to uneconomic and unconstitutional votes.

The market has broken more low resistence areas and could be headed for another serious downturn as gold broke $1000 and currently priced just below $1000 and most people say gold is headed higher.

The stock market in the past was usually an indicator of where the economy is headed but with the massive frauds, the $50BILLION Madoff scandell and the $6BILLION Stanford alleged recent fraud scandal maybe investors are signalling that they are tired of the lack of supervision and over sight of the people who are trusted to invest their money. Before the stock market gets back to where it was in the past it is going to have to reform is structure to insure safety. Maybe something like a company being formed solely for the purpose of independently auditing every company trusted with investor funds, paid for by a percentage of every stock sold set aside to fund this totally independent entity, short of some vehicle to instill confidence the Stock Market as we have known it in the past may just a memory.....

Well, the market did not respond positevely to the proposed PLAN and it broke below new lows, that mean we are heading for the 6000 dollar range on the Dow, not good. Gold is heading toward 1,000 dollars an ounce and should keep going higher as confidence weakens.
I love the way you people talk of "left" and "right" the common ingredient is most politicians is greed and power, on both sides of the street. The American people want honest and truthfullness and it looks as if you have to control your own assets and it is getting more difficult to know who to trust, fraud is pervasive in every area.
For me, its back to basics, back to the land, energy efficient, self sufficiency as much as possible, grow own food as much as practical,
and pay off all debt, if you can. This looks like a long haul, they say in Arizona you can buy a hat and they give you a house! California is talking about IOU's instead of cash for tax refunds, I wonder what would happen if you owe taxes and told them...I.O.U....

Interesting that yesterday I received a call from a mortgage broker from Pittsburg who is looking to finance commercial real estate deals in the Erie area. The word is getting out that Erie may be a place that is moving forward, even in these uncertain times. Now is a good time to plan for the time when things turn around, and they will turn around, but the people driving the truck have a longer learning curve than I had hoped for.

The market floor reactions, as reported by CNBC this morning, indicate that the market has absolutely no confidence in yesterday's housing announcement. It seemed to me that what upset them most was the administration wanting to try and separate the $75B announced yesterday from the $200B Freddie and Fanny already received, making it look like a much smaller project than it actually is. Interesting was that even the NYT blazed the $275B cost across their website today.

Perhaps, Rev. Wright was correct. The chickens may be coming home to roost, as Obama's approval ratings are starting to slip already.

Perhaps the symbolism of approving 17,000 more troops at the same time he took off for Canada might have some of the more left leaning supporters having second thoughts about their guy.

As for Erie, I have been checking various websites trying to find something beneficial for Erie in all this, and so far at least I'm not having much luck. The most information I got came from the Washington Kiplinger Newsletter of last Friday, and they indicated most of the infrastructure spending going to Philadelphia for hybrid buses and improvements to subway stations, with some bridge and road repaving for the rest of the state.

I really thought today would have been a day that the President and his group of advisors would have come up with a lot more specifics and a more thought out plan that would have moved the stock market forward and put more confidence in some of the American people. I cannot believe that Paul Volker would have blessed what they presented today.
I am not quite ready to break off with my country and pull Erie county out of the Union or anything like that, but reality has already told me to move from California to Erie where at least the people here have some sense of family, conservative lifestyle and unpretentious living. I am starting to believe that the 197 acre farm that I purchased with 80 acres of woods, cherry and maple, creek, pastures, creek could support a
sustainable community of 8-10 people who could grow their own food,
live in separate residences but share common space and gardens and
other areas and with free gas and natural gas back up build an energy efficient eco-sustainable community and stay under a lot of the radar and flack that is utltimately going to transpire. We don't get to chose the PLAN but we can position ourselves the best we can to survive the outcome. They will eventually figure it out, but it is going to be very expensive and the Erie area is going to be as good a place as any to ride this one out!
