Hi- no it cannot improve dongle reception. Certain dongles can however accept an external aerial.

Thanks for a really useful post! I’d not heard of these ‘Big Easy Read’ maps, but they sound fab…the bigger the better where maps are concerned….I’m off to check them out now, to see if there are other countries in the series. Thanks again!

I have followed your journey both ways and it makes exellent reading.keep this info coming it is most interesting and informative.as i have previously mentioned i followed your toll free journey to costa brava and may well follow the ‘The Italian Job’in the near future.also as an owner of a swift kontiki 679 albeit a 2008 model i would be most interested to read any relevent info about you new kontiki.

Trucks do use the mountain road. The mountain route has about 8 miles of rather twisty going, but very managable. In winter, the route is closed by the authorities when the road is unsafe because of snow. leaving the tunnel as the only option. I last crossed the mountain road in December 2010, when most of Europe was socked in by snow and, going sensibly, I had no difficulty with the mounbtain road.
