Primarily about Penn State football, this is a tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

There’s a rsaeon there aren’t any emperors left: power corrupts. There have been stories over the years of Paterno bullying administrators and officials when football players got in trouble. But the fact Paterno so brazenly told the trustees not to spend another minute on him after saying he would retire on “his” terms at the end of the year shows how he believed everyone was going to follow his every command. Maybe in some ways he still is the “beloved professor” that led young men to victories. But somewhere along the line he started believing what people were saying about him being Penn State. He let himself think he was always right about the importance of his/Penn States’ appearance . And that was his downfall. I think when he released that unilateral “retirement” statement he actually believed he could order the trustees to obey his wishes. That gave them no choice but to end this part of the mess themselves; to re-assert real authority(finally). Every one of them sounded like they didn’t want to do it, but he gave them no choice. By losing his perspective on what was important, he let something horrible that happened in his universities’ locker room shower be swept under the rug. This allowed the molestation of children to continue. And that is the real tragedy.
