I always like to create a high-rez "master" in the neighborhood of 1280 x 800 and archive that. One never knows what opportunities are around the corner. I then use one or more of the QuickTime X Players presets or "Export for Web" if that is my destination. Lately, I've been working on screencasts for EPUB files viewed on iPad and developed these observations on what works best overall in that environment:

Now we have yet another great container for educational and other screencasts. If you've used Pages to create EPUB-based eBooks with screencast video, you'll really like creating .ibooks eTextbooks (or cookbooks or art catalogs or ...) with the new and free iBooks Author. As "explainers" screencasts are extraordinarily powerful and in context with text images and other media, they are unbeatable in many cases.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Nice! Command-Delete (or Ripple Delete) is indeed very handy. Press I for in point, O for out point, then Command-Delete for a ripple delete of the selected section.
Thanks Ian.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

The first pass, before any zooming and panning, my most used key sequence (after I click then shift-click to set a range), is command-delete to remove all the "umm" and "now what was I going to do here?" pauses. Command-Delete removes the highlighted section and closes the new gap in one step.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Nope - same issue. "j" gets entered as an actual value. Assigning a function key or a key combination such as CMD-CTRL-spacebar would help. Ideally, it should be added to Screenflow's preferences, such as the record hotkey.
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)

Thanks Mattias,
Don McAllister, in his "Meet the ScreenFlow-er" interview also mentioned he uses a shuttle controller. He uses the ShuttlePro2.
Thanks Veit. Good info about the spacebar... "J" can also be used in place of the spacebar to play the video. Maybe that would work better for you. (That doesn't stop you from hitting the spacebar though... :))
Current score: 0 (to vote for this comment, please visit the site)
