Wow. Thanks very much Dave and Tom. First, I again want to repeat that my tweet was a bit harsh just out of frustration. I appreciate what you guys are building and trying to do. Second, I hadn't seen that video before, but I had seen those instructions. I'm using a Mac to make the sticks, and I did format using Disk Utility. I'm at work, on a PC, so I don't have everything in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I tried both the Mac OX Extended format and the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. The first time I ran the creator, when the software hung, I had not done the Mac format, which was my bad. I can always give it another try.
Finally, with respect to the video, there is a sticky thread in the forum with links to a how-to video here:
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=1520
It has links to a Part 1 and a Part 2, but the Part 2 link just takes you to the same Part 1 video. Dave, I'm pretty sure that the link you left above is the link to Part 2 from that set. If somebody could maybe fix the link to Part 2 in the sticky forum thread, that would be useful. I was not able to find it, so I'm glad you left it for me here.

hi mark,

thanks for taking the time for this writeup. as a whole, i agree with you in that if it was technically feasible, and i'm not sure it is, otherwise the fine crew at atvusb-creator would have probably done it, the creator should have identified from the get go if a given stick is good or not.

i think the atvusb-creator are doing a great service to the community by investing the time and effort making this happen, and we and our users facilitate it offering support (boxee directly and through the community forums) where needed, which is what you experienced.

i understand this has taken a lot of your time, and hopeful you would revisit your attempt at another time with a different usb stick.

you have my personal email and twitter account, and i look forward continuing any discussion regarding boxee on this blog, email and/or twitter.

cheers,
tom

It is hard to tell what type of computer you are building the patch stick with from after reading your blog and tweets. If it is a Mac with OS-X, I was able to make the same Kingston 1GB USB drive work. Did you check the format type? You need to be Mac Standard format; which is usually the issue.

Check my how-to in this thread:
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=593

Also, I put together a video here with some pointers within:
http://blip.tv/file/1326911/

Finally, Apple has not opened up the platform with an App Store like they have for the iPhone, so this is a hoop that we have to jump through.
