I solved that john.rec problem by download this version of john from http://www.bindshell.net/tools/johntheripper.html

At first it worked, and I am amazed why is not working now. It gives me this kind of error now, whenever I try crack a password.

mpirun -np 4 -machinefile machines ./john mypasswd

No password hashes loaded

I am so surprised and shocked because of the fact that the first time it worked, it loaded all the hashes, and all the nodes in the cluster starting working. But, suddenly after that, I am seeing this "No password hashes load". Any idea what the hell is wrong?

Thanks!!!

That link didn't solve my problem. Could you be a little more specific and help me out of this. Is the problem related to NFS or something? Is it that multiple MPI processes cannot access the same file on NFS simultaneously? Please help me out!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

Hi gabam,

Have a look here: http://www.openwall.com/lists/john-users/2006/11/29/2

You can also use --session:mysessionname, that should fix your issue.

Hey friends, I have got this problem while using john on my Linux cluster. The testing works fine when I enter the following command

mpirun -np 4 -machinefile machines ./john --test

But when I use the same command for a hash to crack, it gives errors, and john does not use all the machines in the cluster. Here is what it tells me.

mpirun -np 4 -machinefile machines ./john mypassswd

Loaded 1 password hash (generic crypt(3) [?/64])
Loaded 1 password hash (generic crypt(3) [?/64])
Loaded 1 password hash (generic crypt(3) [?/64])
Loaded 1 password hash (generic crypt(3) [?/64])

Node 0@compute-0-3.local: Crash file recovery file is locked: ./john.rec
Node 0@compute-0-2.local: Crash file recovery file is locked: ./john.rec

It doesn't even use the four cores on my machine when I try to run it on a single computer. When I enter

mpirun -np 4 ./john mypasswd

Here is what it says.

Node 0@locahost.local: Crash file recovery file is locked: ./john.rec

What is the problem, could anyone please help me out?????????
