Hi Nathan,
I'm so glad the Red Apple is still in business. My husband and I have spent many mornings enjoying the view from the rooftop eatery. It's been several years since we've been in Bucerias; just thinking about the Red Apple makes me long for the French toast. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

You may be right, though I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the CRA. That could be asking for trouble - in my opinion. Having said that, there are ways to fight back and Alan Baggett offers many tools in his book.

I wrote to the CRA and asked for proof that I (keeping in mind that my birth name is not my all capitals fictitious strawman name) am required to pay tax on my 'income'. They could not provide any proof, nor could they provide any legal definition of 'income' and their letter confirming this constitutes a legal 'Constitution of Agreement' that I do not have to pay taxes. I have not filed taxes in over 12 years and have not received so much as one letter from the CRA and I still have my home and two cars. Tax paying is entirely voluntary as there is no law or legal contract in the world that states that you are obliged to participate. The CRA can only audit you if you consent to the audit and their juristiction is granted only by allowing them into your home. Never open the door for anyone from the CRA or respond to assesment letters and you will be fine. They have no legal leg to stand on and they know it. If I were ever threatened with an assesment or seizure of assets I would simply produce my 'Constitution of Agreement' letter from the CRA and laugh. And I would only produce my CA through mail and not in court as anyone with half a brain knows that you NEVER show up at a CRA hearing because you grant them contract the minute you show up.

The only thing you have to fear is fear itself.

A big problem for any blogger is sorting through the comments and deciding which comments are useful and which ones are spam. This is the purpose of spam filters. Unfortunately, good comments find their way in the spam traps so it's necessary to look at each one individually.

As for where else to find me, I have a profile on LinkedIn (http://ca.linkedin.com/in/nathansegal) and facebook: http://www.facebook.com/nathan.segal

I rarely create remarks, however after looking at through a great deal of responses on this page » Blog Archive » Paying the Electrical Bill at CFE (Comision Federal de Electricidad) in La Paz. I actually do have some questions for you if it's allright. Could it be simply me or do some of these comments look as if they are coming from brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing on additional online sites, I would like to keep up with you. Could you list of all of your social networking pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?

This is a good article. And, unfortunately, much closer to the truth than some would like to admit. Thanks for sending it to me.

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately, it's true. The weather is the worst in August and September. Temperatures of 100-105 degrees are common, every day and humidity of up to 70%. When the humidity got that high I had trouble breathing. After last summer I promised myself that I'd go somewhere else.

As for hotels, there's one, I think it's called the Posada Real and it's near Chedraui and the Malecon. Another one, which I stayed at is the Hotel Araiza, north on the malecon. It also serves breakfast and is a good price. You would be comfortable there. The most important thing is to make sure you have good air conditioning. You'll need it.
