Thought I’d check in and check out a few more of your videos. They really are well done! FYI a fun side trail (on the way down) from the top is to take a short cut and ski the scree. It’s definitely an advanced decent and quite a work out, but it’s a blast (remember to bring your gators though).

You did a great job on the video! I’ve also done both a one-day and two-day and prefer the one-day. I have a permit for late August. Some of my fellow (San Diego) hikers have never attempted Whitney and this will be a great preview. Thanks again for sharing!

@Mark: Yes, it’s definitely doable in a weekend. Make your overnite at Trail Crest. It gets you most of the way up there.

I agree, great video.

I’ve never climbed Whitney before but I’m organizing a group to go in July (hopefully, if Lottery goes well).

Having not much summiting experience, would this 2 night version of the Whitney climb be do-able in a single weekend?

Great trip report. I’ve done Whitney both ways and actually prefer doing it in 1 day. You are typically only adding 5-6 miles to the mileage from your 2nd day and as a result can do it with only day packs. I’m taking a group up this summer, some have summited before others have not. Hi Josh. I personally don’t use the drops / tablets. So far it has not been a problem. In cases where the water is questionable I will filter and then boil as well.

The Katadyn Hiker PRO destroys bacteria and protozoa, but not viruses. Do you also use chlorine dioxide tablets to eliminate the viruses?

Indeed. The same could be said about horseflies. Sometimes, aside from having light-coloured clothes you could lie down in the ground. Some insects seem to have more difficulty finding their targets in this way.

I agree, taking the tram isn’t cheating — you’re doing a hike not an ascent. So what is your tripod setup? I wish I could get an affordable, mini-steadicam for the videos I do of our travels… Ed
