One theory about female rates of commuting was that it would be higher where commutes were friendlier--i.e. less of a macho urban warrior thing. It looks like Oregon has the highest rate of the country. Is Oregon unusual in that 1% (I think?) of all transportation $ are required to be spent on bikes and peds?

It sux to hear you're taking a hiatus Mike, but I can certainly understand the need to control your free time. These hobbies that turn into passions have a way of consuming our identity, and you have to be able to walk away if needed so that you can focus on what you enjoy.

Now, maybe you'll find time to go on a mountain bike ride!

Thanks for the info on this event, Shane. Any thoughts on how kid-friendly the ride portion might be? I think it's the only part of the day I could make.

Hey Seager,
You've done a fantastic job with this site. It's been jam-packed with info, interesting, funny, and helpful. Really great writing on your part and a few key contributors. Maybe Shane will take it on. He's not busy....
However it works out, your efforts have really helped us see ourselves as a biking community, regardless of what kind of bikes or shoes we have...
Clown on!

I'll miss the news you have been covering here, but hope you find some time to enjoy yourself. Yeah, guilt and obligation are no good.

Cheers.

Seager!
Thanks for filling in the background on that project. Bonham told me that this particular slump couldn't have happened in a worse spot. Apparently that stretch is hard to relocate since it's on that narrow strip between the creek and an apartment complex to the north -- and then the path heads through the underpass under Garfield. But, yes, good question as to why the "substructure" improvements weren't part of the original planning.
