Great article! I specialize in moissanite, and they are all cut from a new type of crystal now, so no more yellow or green undertones. They come in colorless and near colorless options, as well as some beautiful colors. The new crystal is called 4H crystal, the older crystal was 6H. Four hexagons per crystal structure, is what that abbreviation stands for, cuz imma nerd. lol Keep talking about moissanite, it's a killer diamond alternative!

How sad that people actually go into debt over a wedding. I can understand a couple thousand but for many we are talking 5, 10, 20+ thousand in debt. What a great way to start marriage. An average of $20k in college debt each and then let's tack on a needless $20k for a one day event. No wonder Americans are are found to have so much personal debt and then dont even have a couple months savings to make it through a government shutdown.

My now husband and I dated for 7 years, prior to getting married on our 8 year dating anniversary.

He had just turned 29 years old two weeks prior to our wedding, and I was 28 years old.

We have been committed to each other since we were 20 & 21 years old, but knew that we were not ready for marriage at the point in our lives.

I know getting to really know each other years before marrying was the right decision for US.

That's precisely the kind of wedding that was on, so popular in the 1970's with "Hippie" brides and grooms! In fact, while not being actual "Hippies" ourselves, we were more so in spirit in the mid to later 70's, when my husband and I married in July, 1976! We married among less than 50 really close friends and family, several of whom had to travel a good distance to be with us that day, but they were our closest family members, so it was worth it! The Jessica McClintock "Gunne Sax" brand wedding dress I wore was perfect for the occasion then, and still would be today for such a small, intimate outside wedding in a garden in a big city park, such as what we had that beautiful Summer day. They can still be had, for not a lot more than what I paid for mine. You just need to be more selective, as they aren't available in such wide size ranges as they were back then! But, carrying small baskets of flowers instead of bouquets would still work. You can't throw baskets, of course, but I've been to other weddings where the bride didn't throw her expensive silk bouquet, preferring to keep it herself as a keep-sake, and having a smaller "throw away" bouquet instead for the occasion. I still have mine, as it was an actual ceramic basket, filled with color coordinated dried flowers. My two attendants had the same, with flowers color coordinated to match their dresses. They were more budget-friendly than silks then, as silks were brand new, and quite expensive for the time, at $1+ per stem! (Remember inflation, you know!) This was a "DIY" wedding of the first order!
Invitations of course can be done on the computer, printed on your own printer, and that includes addressing envelopes as well. Especially if you get those invitation kits, which of course didn't exist, along with computers and the internet back then! It was all creative thinking, and footwork back then. The high school from which I graduated the year before had a Print Shop as part of its "Shop" classes, and I put them to work printing our invitations. I got 100 with separate insert cards regarding our pitch-in picnic reception, tissues, double envelopes, all on off white stock in black ink, for all of $25! (Remember, inflation!)
Anyway, without writing a book on it, the entire affair cost us less than $450 complete. And that includes paying for everything to have my girls make their attendant's dresses, and buying their hats; our rings, and a night away in a hotel. The rest of that week, we shared with family who had traveled so far to be with us on our special day. We knew we had plenty of time together ahead of us! And its been 42 years so far!

That’s precisely the kind of wedding that was on, so popular in the 1970’s with “Hippie” brides and grooms! In fact, while not being actual “Hippies” ourselves, we were more so in spirit in the mid to later 70’s, when my husband and I married in July, 1976! We married among less than 50 really close friends and family, several of whom had to travel a good distance to be with us that day, but they were our closest family members, so it was worth it! The Jessica McClintock “Gunne Sax” brand wedding dress I wore was perfect for the occasion then, and still would be today for such a small, intimate outside wedding in a garden in a big city park, such as what we had that beautiful Summer day. They can still be had, for not a lot more than what I paid for mine. You just need to be more selective, as they aren’t available in such wide size ranges as they were back then! But, carrying small baskets of flowers instead of bouquets would still work. You can’t throw baskets, of course, but I’ve been to other weddings where the bride didn’t throw her expensive silk bouquet, preferring to keep it herself as a keep-sake, and having a smaller “throw away” bouquet instead for the occasion. (Remember inflation, you know!) This was a “DIY” wedding of the first order!
Invitations of course can be done on the computer, printed on your own printer, and that includes addressing envelopes as well. Especially if you get those invitation kits, which of course didn’t exist, along with computers and the internet back then! It was all creative thinking, and footwork back then. The high school from which I graduated the year before had a Print Shop as part of its “Shop” classes, and I put them to work printing our invitations.
Intimate, low-cost weddings (including my own) have been around forever and are not a "quirky wedding trend." In other words, there is no such thing as a "micro wedding", just weddings. When did it become necessary for small weddings to have a fancy name and "trendy" status in order to be accepted as a legitimate option? I love all the points this post makes about keeping a wedding small and affordable, but the whole idea of "micro weddings" as a cool new trend is inaccurate and really rubs me the wrong way.

Fact Check: 1. Ethics - the diamond industry supports 1 million artisanal miners in Africa and South America. Their livelihoods depend on diamond mining; search DDI diamonds.
2. Moissanite has almost identical surface tension as diamond and so also attract dirt, grease.
3. Ruby and sapphire are hardness 9 but are about 10 times softer than diamond. the Mohs hardness scale is not linear.
4. Charles & Colvard had a patent for about 20 years and made greenish ugly moissonite - but the patents expired and now there are other companies making nice white colourless stuff - so this bit was correct :-)

Oh my gosh I love these, they are insanely stunning - I honestly don’t even know which I prefer which is crazy unusual for me aha! But to be honest I am an absolute sucker for anything that sparkles, and engagement rings in particular just get me so giddy haha! This might sound crazy but please tell me someone else here has done this too….even though I am yet to actually get engaged I have already found my ideal engagement ring (what can I say it doesn't hurt to be prepared right haha). It’s not my fault though it’s literally Pinterest’s - it’s wedding central on there aha! So yes maybe I’m crazy but my ideal one is this platinum band princess cut diamond adorned with 2 small circular blue sapphires on either side of the stone (here: https://www.jaubalet.co.uk/wedding-bands-engagement-rings/engagement-rings/) I mean come on how crazy pretty is it?! I swoon just thinking about the day a man will drop down on one knee and ask me to be his wife. For me that’s literally just the most magical thing that could ever happen! Tell me it’s not just me though - other people must have picked out their engagement already right? Please tell me one of you has haha xx

Need recommendations for a good hairstylist.

Any good recommendations for a good hair stylist that specializes in doing the hair of Colombian women? My brother’s getting married soon and we need a professional to do the bridesmaids’ hair. Preferably someone who has experience with weddings, and knows which hair products and techniques work well with our hair type.

WB admin: commenting seems to only be available for desktop sites, not mobile.

Poster: If this is your dream dress, I'd find a local independent seamstress (someone not in cahoots with the dress shop) stat using reviews from weddingwire.com or theknot.com to see if they can let out the sideseams somehow. As mentioned by the pp, body shaping undergarments if you're not already wearing them. If none of the above works, you could try to find the same dress for sale on preownedweddingdresses.com and resell the current one. Good luck!
