Holy cow that's awesome. Very serious effort to create a wild stunt.

I especially love the jelly tea on the side.

I think that's too much sugar. At first I thought coke would be terrible in foods but I guess you could argue the cola flavour is suitable for a lot of savoury dishes.

Perhaps because it's "cooking for dads" it seems more ok, and I now read on Wikipedia:

Kola nuts, which have a bitter taste, contribute little or no flavor to most cola recipes.

See Cola and Kola nut.

Personally I would go the beer every time. And leave the brown sugar off the rub.

Hi Nick,

Managed to get back on your blog again :)

Glad to know the Mecca converts continues :) I trek down from North Ryde to drink coffee there of a Tuesday, they are #1 IMO ;)

I know Ivan, the guy who runs Barista & Sons it's not one of my projects, no. At this point I'm still on the otherside of the counter.

Drop me a mail (details on http://wadem.id.au) and we can chat some more.

Peace,

Wade

I also thought the same thing. In my search for a coffee shop when we hit the new office, this was the best shop that I found (In a block radius in each direction).

Some think I am hard to please :)

Hey Wade, I returned from Mecca this morning and handed 3 coffees around the office. Without prompting one guy commented 'mmm good coffee'. I pointed out our colleague thought it was watery. The watery colleague quickly back peddled almost denying he ever made the claim... Interesting.

I took a different mate to Mecca the other day, he was a regular at El Centro (directly opposite Mecca). He sipped his mocha and said 'yeah not bad', the following day I ran into my mate out the front of Mecca, Mocha in hand, he said; 'hah you caught me, I'm converted!'

I checked out your sites, you seem to be a busy guy online... Are you responsible for the Barista & Sons site? The design reminds me of the Single Origin site... pretty cool...

Ah! I see you've found the Mecca.

You've also snapped me on a pilgrimage there; second person from the right, shaved head.

A watery coffee is very interesting comment, something I've never tasted. Places like Mecca don't just heat their milk they also texture it, giving it volume/thickness. Watery is very interesting.

Some other Mecca photos if interested...
