 ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank is hoping people will share their luck of the Irish before Saint Patrick’s Day by giving blood. This Thursday the first 75 donors who come to the blood bank will receive a pot of shamrocks generously donated by Joel’s Flower Shop. The blood supply  has had a terrible winter and it’s still not back to 100% so we are hoping for a few extra donors Thursday to get through it.

 Make a difference for this Saint Patrick’s Day by wearing the GREEN and giving the RED.

The Regional Mobile Drive Coordinator reports to the Manager, Mobile Recruitment.  The Mobile Drive Coordinator is responsible for the development, planning and promotion of blood donor recruitment activities with an assigned territory. Responsible for educating and communicating with the public about the need for blood, the local blood program and blood donation. Develops and maintains contact with volunteers to encourage their participation.  Achieves assigned collection goals.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, communication or equivalent combination of related education and experience required.  Two-years of job-related recruitment, project and/or event management experience preferred

You will have demonstrated strong skills in time management, organization skills, leadership, and communications (written and verbal) and will be willing to travel and available for weekend and evening work.

The Community Blood Bank has teamed up with Mount Pleasant Ski Resort in Edinboro to make the most of it. The first 75 blood donors who come to the Community Blood Bank this Friday will receive either two 2-hour tubing passes or and adult all day lift ticket. The blood shortage inflicted by the severe winter is still a problem. The blood bank hopes to make up for all of the lost donors due to school closings and bad weather.

CANCELLED DRIVES & FEWER DONORS DUE TO WEATHER ARE MAJOR FACTORS

ERIE, PA – The Community Blood Bank has seen the blood supply drop to critical levels in the past 24 hours and the new storm forecast could spell real problems for area hospitals that are already concerned about dwindling supplies. Last week between 250 and 300 donations were lost due to cancelled blood drives. Those days simply cannot be made up as schedules are full months in advance. Only additional donors can pull the region out of this shortage.

People with Type O & Type A blood are especially encouraged to come give blood.

THE COLD WEATHER CONTRIBUTES TO DROPPING BLOOD SUPPLY

BLOOD BANK EXTENDS HOURS TO FIGHT BLOOD SHORTAGE

ERIE, PA – The renewed cold weather has contributed to the return of a blood shortage that has the local blood supply dropping fast. Several major regional blood drives have been cancelled due to the weather. Officials at the Community Blood Bank are extending hours at their fixed site at 2646 Peach Street to give the public extra time to come in and give blood. The CBB will be open until 6:30pm Tuesday through Thursday this week (January 28-30th 2014).

With no end in sight to the cold weather, the blood bank hopes to get ahead of a serious crisis by extending hours and appealing to the public for help.

“The blood supply has been affected by the cold weather,” Said Dr. Jeffrey Richmond, Medical Director at the blood bank. “Many blood drives have either cancelled or have experienced low turnout. As a result, blood supplies have dropped sharply in the last few days. In order to avoid a critical blood shortage for our regional hospitals, we encourage you to donate today.”

Congress picked January because it’s normally such a tough month for the blood supply. T-shirts are a blood donor classic and these high quality long sleeve shirts are perfect for the cold winter we’re having.

One lucky donor this week will win a $100 Wegmans Gift card.

The local blood supply is still lower than the hospitals would like and donors with negative blood types are especially needed.

ERIE, PA – The local blood shortage is feeling the cold just like everyone else. On Tuesday three mobile blood drives were cancelled due to the cold, but the main location at 26^th & Peach remains open, although a water main break has traffic barrels partially blocking the entrance.

 There are three drives coming up that people can come to, to help out.

 Thursday January 9^th. Union City Moose Lodge from 2-6pm

Friday January 10^th. Lake Erie Lodge in Girard from 1-6pm

Saturday Jan. 11^th. First Presbyterian Church, 250 W. 7^th St. 8-12pm

Donors are also welcome Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm & Saturdays 9 to 12:30pm at 26^th & Peach Streets. No appointment is needed at any of these locations, just bring photo ID and expect to spend 30 minutes or so.
