HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center Now Open

Oconto Falls – Residents in Oconto County now have access to more types of adult and pediatric surgical procedures performed by a team of highly-skilled surgical experts, closer to home. On April 11, HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls opened the new, HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center.

HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center is located on the campus of HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. It serves as the home-base for a newly-dedicated surgical team lead by Richard McNutt MD, FACS and Tina DeGroot, APRN. Patients who require surgery visit HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center for consultations and follow-up appointments; surgical procedures take place within the hospital’s remodeled operating rooms.

“As part of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) family, HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center delivers the same level of high-quality surgical care provided at our sister-hospitals HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center in Green Bay, but much closer to home for our patients,” said Dan DeGroot, Chief Operating Officer at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital.

HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center and its dedicated surgical team allow for an expanded variety of adult and pediatric surgical procedures to be performed at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. This includes general and vascular surgery, colonoscopies, colon and breast cancer surgery, hernia repair, advanced laparoscopic surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries and new treatments for varicose veins.

“HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center is supported by expert radiologists, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, emergency medicine physicians and skilled, professional nurses,” said Dr. McNutt, general and vascular surgeon at HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center. “We work as a team with our patients and their families to deliver the best possible care.”

The public will be invited to learn more about the HSHS St. Clare Regional Surgery Center during an open house early this summer. More information on the event will be released at a later date.

Oconto Falls – Advanced wound care services will soon be available in Oconto County with the addition of the HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital, 855 Main St. in Oconto Falls.

HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center will open Feb. 1, 2016 in the lower level of the hospital as a full-service wound center utilizing the most proven and trusted techniques in wound management, including a state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) supercharges the body’s healing ability with concentrated oxygen to help resolve painful, stubborn wounds and infections. HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center also specializes in the use of bioengineered tissues, which stimulate the body to heal wounds by creating new skin. While wound care services have been provided at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital for several years, advanced treatments like HBOT and bioengineered tissues were not available.

“In the past, people would have to travel to Green Bay or Iron Mountain to receive advanced wound care services,” said Jane Charnetski, Director of Regional Wound Care and Hyperbaric Centers for Hospital Sisters Health System – Eastern Wisconsin Division. “Now, our patients have access to advanced, high-quality wound care close to home. This is especially important for patients who are elderly, disabled or have multiple health conditions which make it difficult to travel.”

Anyone with a wound that has not healed after 2 to 4 weeks of standard care should seek treatment at a wound center. Many people who have non-healing wounds are elderly and/or have underlying health conditions such as diabetes, poor circulation, leg swelling or decreased mobility.

From now until Feb. 1, wound care services currently offered at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital will still be available to patients on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Beginning Feb. 1, HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center will open to patients five days a week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The public and local media are invited to tour the new HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center during an open house event on Thursday, Jan. 28.

HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital and Prevea Health offer a monthly diabetic information group. The group hosts a series of presentations about how to live healthfully with diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that affects many areas of a person's daily life and these information sessions offer a variety of ideas to maintain and improve your health.
