Romney Justifies Oppression Due to Their Inferior Culture

I shouldn't be surprised.

Mr. Romney's attitude is a continuation of common European attitudes that have been around for hundreds of years.

Mr. Romney apparently measures people's worth by their salary. And apparently he would rather not take responsibility to help his neighbors, so he labels them as inferior. And no he's not racist - he's just thinks some cultures are better than others.

My article title sounds like an Onion article, but listen to what Romney says:

"Earlier, before he departed Israel, Mr. Romney pointed out Israel’s brighter economic prospects compared with its Palestinian neighbors and suggested culture may have something to do with Israel’s success.

“As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,” he told a group of donors gathered at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. He added: “And that is also between other countries that are near or next to each other: Chile and Ecuador, Mexico and the United States.”

But Mr. Romney’s figures underestimated the actual gap between the economies. Per capita gross domestic product stood at $31,400 for Israel last year, while Palestinians’ per capita GDP was $1,500 in 2010, according to an April 2012 World Bank report, which attributed the figure to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics." source

"Police in the California city of Anaheim are facing allegations of murder and brutality after fatally shooting two Latino men over the weekend and firing rubber bullets at crowds of protesters. On Saturday, Anaheim police shot and killed 24-year-old Manuel Diaz after he reportedly ran away from a group of officers who confronted him in the street. Diaz was unarmed. Hours after his death, a chaotic scene broke out when police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at a crowd of local residents protesting the shooting. Another Latino resident, Joel Acevedo, was shot dead by police the following day. Police say Acevedo was suspected in a car robbery, but the circumstances around his death remain unconfirmed. We discuss the situation in Anaheim with Gustavo Arellano, editor of the alternative newspaper, OC Weekly, and Theresa Smith, who has worked with families to call for police accountability in Anaheim since 2009, when officers shot and killed her son, Cesar Cruz, a 35-year-old father of five. Four Fears Blocking U.S. Immigration Reform

The U.S. has always been reluctant about immigrants and immigration policy which continues to delay immigration policy reform.

Here is the current situation:

Businesses want a larger pool of workers to choose from.
Businesses want more consumers to buy their products.
The stock market wants endless growth.

The reluctance now imposes a certain dilemma.

How can there be an endless supply of growth without an endless supply of people?

As the U.S. population grows, the agricultural industry consequently needs to grow to meet the demand to supply food for the nation or the food can be imported (pushing more jobs outside the U.S.) After U.S. slavery was abolished, many agricultural jobs became available when African Americans moved north for manufacturing jobs. New immigrants have filled the positions open in the agricultural industry, but the disrespect to the labor force has never ended.

U.S. immigration policy favors the educated, but we also need labor.

The U.S. fears immigrants, but are the fears rational?

The U.S. Public's Fears

Losing jobs to new immigrants.
Nation turning brown.
Different cultures.
English disappearing.

Versus

Demands of U.S. Businesses and Consumers

Businesses' desire for highly skilled workers and low cost labor; along with consumers desire for technological advancement in all industries, consumer's desire for low cost products and low cost services

Below is a video (jump to 2:30) where our media is trying to make sense of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down 3 of Arizona's SB 1070 anti-immigrant laws and upholding one. Jeff Toobin says he spent the day trying to figure out the difference between the laws that were struck down versus the one that was approved and that it's very hard to tell.

Keeping this constant grey area in the laws allows business to obtain their discounted labor and the rest of our citizens to continue to scapegoat immigrants as law breakers and as a problem.
