When looking for an adventure in the Great Britain, perhaps most people would look for city breaks. However a true adventure is getting out in the outdoors.

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Great Britain and is situated in Scotland. Its height is 4,406 feet, meaning its no stroll in the park. A five mile path, starting 2.5 miles from Fort William, leads to the summit. Fort William and Ben Nevis are located in the north west of Scotland.

When visiting Fort William, be sure to visit the Caledonian Canal which runs from east to west of Scotland passing through some key lochs including the famous Loch Ness.

The United States of America has many interesting cities to visit. Recently I came across a little gem in North Carolina. The Wiki travel page for this city is interesting from the very first paragraph. Asheville has many taglines which intrigue and very much make you want to visit. “Paris of the South”, “San Francisco of the East”, “New Age Mecca” and “Land of the Sky”.

With these taglines we also have AARP describing it as one of the “Best Places to Reinvent Your Life”. Asheville is nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains. The thought of this makes you think of it as some sort of secret. With the mountains hiding it from surrounding cities. From what I can gather, Asheville is a place to relax and enjoy the finer things in life. With a Botanical Garden, Pisgah National Forest and North Carolina Arboretum.
Museum riverbank might be a perfect stop while in Frankfurt, with many museums to choose from. As well as a peaceful setting by the river, this could be a nice place to visit.

If cathedrals and churches are more your thing then Germany has a whole host of them which will wet your appetite. The Imperial Cathedral also known as the St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral has Gothic architecture which many people will find interesting.

Lastly on the list of things to see in Frankfurt is the main tower which gives great views of this beautiful city. It was built in 1999 and on a clear day you can see for miles. Recommendations say the best time to go in dusk but leave aside 20 mins to get through security.

Frankfurt is not only a great location for the Christmas markets but also looks a very appealing destination for the following attractions.

Old Sachsenhausen is a place where you can enjoy a pretty fountain and enjoy a tipple of apple wine and Frankfurt specialities at one of the quaint little pubs.

Romerberg is a square which is used for fairs and markets. It is where the picture postcard image of Frankfurt is set. The row of houses in the square with the first fountain of Frankfurt in the middle. The city’s government is located here as well as a statue of Justice, and a plaque in the cobblestones that commemorates the book burning by the National Socialists in 1933. St. Paul’s Church is just a stones throw away, which appears live a very typical German Church which is oval in shape.

Flying to Germany is relatively cheap if you fly to Hamburg from Manchester. Flying to Berlin is a different story, with flights being almost double. The best flight I have found to Hamburg this winter for the Christmas Markets is just under £70 per person. The flight is for 3 nights 4 days and is in the middle of December so you will be sure to be in the Christmas spirit.

Its not until you look for hotels, that you realise you cant do this trip on quite the budget you expected. With hotels ranging from all sorts of price brackets. Even hostels are not cheap if travelling as a couple, or if you want the luxury of a private room.

The best hotel I have found is the Hotel Graf Moltke Novum which is located in the centre of Hamburg and has reasonable room rates in what appears to be a well rated hotel.

When visiting Ghana, it is nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city of Accra. Along the coast there are many beach villages to choose from. When searching for hidden gems in Ghana, I came across Ankobra Beach Resort.

The accommodation creates a beautiful setting to enjoy the white sand beach and clear blue sea. If paradise is a place this could be it. According to their website cheap budget accommodation is also available for 8 Euros.

There are also a number of things to do from here such as the Ankobra River Boat Trip. The boat trip is available in 2 different methods. Boat or Canoe, Canoe definitely sounding the more exciting. Ankasa Reserve is also not too far away from the beach resort. Here you can enjoy 500 square kilometers, which consists largely of tropical evergreen rainforest.

All in all this sounds a pretty nice place to relax and enjoy what Ghana has to offer.

When visiting a new city, its always interesting to sample its night life during your stay. In Manchester there are many different ’scenes’. When tourists flood into a city they often ask “Where’s the best place to go?”. This question of course depends on who you ask and what you are looking for from a night out.

If you fancy a couple of drinks in Manchester, nothing too heavy then here is a list of recommendations I would suggest to get a feel of what Manchester has to offer.

If you arrived in Manchester by train then you will probably be aware of Manchester Oxford Road station. A quirky bar near the station is ‘Temple Bar’. This bar used to be a public toilet. It is small, a little dingy, but has a duke box and spirit.

Next up I would head to the Northern Quarter and go to the cocktail bar near ‘bluu’ called ‘Cuba Cafe’. The bar is a little bit hidden away on Hilton Street. However, its got crazy drinks, made with enthusiasm, complemented with a positive atmosphere.

To finish off the night head down Oldham Street to Dry Bar, it featured in the film ‘24 hour party people’. Its lively to late and it will show you the music which Manchester loves.

As you can imagine with any country in Africa. One of the main attractions is its wildlife and scenery. When most people think of Africa, they think of seeing animals in their wild when going on a safari.

Ghana has its little gems of natural beauty as well. As mentioned in the previous post Kakum National Park is the park which gets most of the attention in Ghana. However Mole National Park is also worth your consideration when visiting the country. Mole National park is Ghana’s largest wildlife refuge. You can expect to see elephants, monkeys and baboons.

One of my interests of late is Mountains. Ever since climbing a mountain back in 2009 it has become one of the things I have come to appreciate. Whenever I go on any trip now I now look to see if there are any mountains nearby. In Ghana, the highest mountain is Mount Afadjato at 880m. It is located in the Volta Region of Ghana.

The Cape Coast in Ghana is the capital of the Central Region of Ghana. When looking at things to do when visiting the Cape Coast, there is a number of things which catch your eye. First of all is the Cape Coast castle which I have heard about many times before. The castle is listed as a World Heritage site. It was built for the purpose of trade in timber and gold. It was also used in the trans-atlantic slave trade. It attracts many visitors for this reason. Many people say chains and blood is still on the walls to this day, making for an eye opening experience.

The city has a number of other attractions such as the beach itself as well as the Fort William lighthouse. 30km away you can also visit one Ghana’s national parks. Kakum National Park is well known for its rare animals and canopy walkways. Making for a rather colourful but dangerous experience.

The top dog attraction sometimes however disappoints, ive heard tales that the Great Wall of China isnt all that great and that the Great Barrier Reef aint all that beautiful.

In Xi’an, China. The main attraction is the Terracotta Warriors, not only do people travel to Xi’an to see them from within China. But for some people it is the highlight of the whole country.

The terracotta warriors are one of the worlds wonders. Thousands of terracotta warriors make up the terracotta army. Situated just outside of Xi’an city centre, it really is something to admire.

When making your next city break I recommend you work out the number one place you want to visit in the country or city you are visiting.
