If you are using a Windows System Plotter driver, you can configure it to use virtual memory on the computer.

To access the settings

On the Start menu (Windows), click Settings > Printers.
Right-click the plotter and click Properties.
Set the driver to Process Document In Computer. This will process the entire plot at the computer.

The procedure for setting the driver to Process Document In Computer varies by operating system and driver.

Note: If this method does not cause the full drawing to be plotted, it is possible that the plotter does not have enough memory to hold the entire plot. For troubleshooting purposes, send a smaller size plot to the plotter (an A size plot is much smaller than an E size plot of the same drawing, for example). If the smaller plot is successful and the larger version is missing data, the plotter most likely does not have enough memory to hold the plot.

You can make all pixels of a specific color in a grayscale or color image transparent. This is useful for overlaying two images or placing an image in front of objects.

To make an image transparent

Select the image.
Right-click the image. Click Properties.
In the Properties palette, select Transparency.
Click the down arrow at the right of the box and select Yes.
Specify which color will be transparent.

To change the color that is transparent

Zoom in close to the image so that you can accurately select the color.
Click the image frame.
Note:
If you are zoomed so you cannot see the image frame, press Shift + left-click to select the image.

Right-click the image. Click Properties.
In the Properties palette, select Transparency Color.
If Transparency Color does not appear in the Properties palette, the image may not be loaded or the Raster Extension may not be loaded. To load the image, select the image. Right-click the image ImageShow Image. To load the Raster Extension, choose an image command such as Insert An Image.

You can choose the transparency color for grayscale and color images. In bitonal images, the transparency color is always the background color of the image.

Click to display the Transparency Color dialog box.
Click Select and pick the desired color on the image. Click OK.
To turn on transparency, select Transparency in the Properties palette and set it to Yes.

If you cannot find Registry key name and data, add the following Registry information under:

Option 2:

Verify the various path referenced that point to \Users\ folders, navigate to those folders in Windows Explorer and ensure the folders exist. If they do not, create them.

Inserting geographic location information to a drawing file makes points within the drawing correspond to geographic locations on the surface of the Earth.

Geographic location information in a drawing file is built around an entity known as the geographic marker. The geographic marker points to a reference point in model space that corresponds to a location on the surface of the earth of known latitude and longitude. The program also captures the direction of the north at this location. Based on this information the program can derive the geographic coordinates of all other points in the drawing file.
Typically a geographic location is defined by its coordinates (for example, latitude, longitude, and elevation) and the coordinate system (for example, WGS 84) used to define the coordinates. Moreover, the coordinates of a location can differ from one GIS coordinate system to another. Hence, when you specify the geographic location of the geographic marker, the system also captures the details of the GIS coordinate system.

Typically CAD drawings are unitless and are drawn at 1:1 scale. You are free to decide the linear unit a drawing unit represents. GIS systems, on the other hand, allow the coordinate system to decide the linear units. In order to map CAD coordinates to GIS coordinates, the system needs to interpret CAD drawing units in terms of linear units. The system uses the setting stored in the INSUNITS system variable as the default linear measurement of a drawing unit. However, when you insert geographic location information, you have the option of specifying a different linear measurement (for a drawing unit).

After you insert a geographic marker in a drawing, you can:

Clean Install and Uninstall of Revit products

1. Log on as a Local System Administrator and disable any Antivirus programs.

2. Remove the specific Revit 2015 product from the Windows Control Panel:

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall the specific Revit 2015 product

3. Remove the 2015 Material Library from the Windows Control Panel:

Starting AutoCAD 2012, the Autodesk Exchange screen stays white and leads to the following error-messages: 'no internet connection'. But there is a connection. 'Autodesk server temporarily out of reach. Also not true because a colleague in another firm doesn't have the problem at the same moment. 'Your proxy is blocking Autodesk Exchange, contact your network administrator'. The Online Help isn't working either. See if you can install the cad manager tools from the dvd, and disable exchange. the in Options, set cad to NOT use online help. If you really need to use exchange or online help, you've got a browser that can get there.

Issue

You received the following error message when you tried to resave a locked NWD file:

The current model includes a locked published file. You are not allowed to publish it.
Solution

You cannot resave a locked file. In order to resave the file, you will need to revert to an earlier version of the locked file before it was locked.

Note: Verify that the May be Resaved check box is selected in the Publisher dialog box.

NWDOUT command does not work in AutoCAD

You were using a computer that has both NavisWorks and AutoCAD® installed. However, when you entered NWDOUT on the command line in AutoCAD, the NavisWorks Exporter did not work.

Solution

The NWDOUT command in AutoCAD may not work if you installed AutoCAD after NavisWorks was installed or you upgraded to a newer version of AutoCAD. In either case, you can resolve the issue by manually installing the exporter:

Click Start menu > Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
Select the appropriate version of NavisWorks from the list of currently installed programs.
Click the Change/Remove button.
Click Add or Remove Features.
Select the AutoCAD plug-in option for the version of AutoCAD that you have installed, and then click Next.
Follow the prompts to install the appropriate plug-in.

AutoCAD 2011 Not all Previous Version licenses are available after activating an Autodesk Design Suite

Issue

You have purchased and activated one of the Autodesk Design Suites or a product that is also available in an Autodesk Design Suite, e.g., AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD Architecture 2011, etc. Later, you purchase and activate a different Autodesk Design Suite and notice that you do not have access to all the licenses you expect for the previous versions of the products that are common between those suites.
Example #1:
You purchased and activated five licenses of Autodesk Design Suite Premium 2011 and, on another day, you purchased and activated two licenses of Autodesk Design Suite Advanced 2011. Because you are on Subscription and have previous version support, you expect to have access to seven licenses of AutoCAD 2010-2008 (a common product between the two Suites) however only two licenses are available for these product versions.
Example #2:
You purchased and activated five licenses of AutoCAD 2011 and, on another day, you purchased and activated two licenses of Autodesk Design Suite Advanced 2011. Again, because you are on Subscription, you expect to have access to seven licenses of AutoCAD 2010-2008 (a product that is available in the Suite and as a separately installed product) however only two licenses are available for these product versions.
Note: Previous Version Support is a Subscription benefit that allows you to run the current version of a product plus the three previous versions (if they exist). For more information, see the following:

Solution

There is a known issue when combining Autodesk Design Suite licenses where the license manager will evaluate the previous product versions that are common between an Autodesk Design Suite and a previously installed product or Suite and provides only the number of licenses for the last Suite that was activated. Using the first example from above, you would have access to all seven licenses of AutoCAD 2011 but only two licenses of AutoCAD 2010-2008. This is because the Suite with two licenses was added at a later date than the Suite with five licenses. If both Suites had been activated on the same day, all seven licenses would be available for the previous product versions.
To resolve this issue you need to obtain a new package license file containing all the licenses (old and new) in a single file, issued on the same day. The issue date can be determined by inspecting your license file and looking for the ISSUED= section in each increment. For example:

Take care entering these values as you registering and activating your products, so that you don’t inadvertently transpose or skip numbers or letters.

Serial Number
Host Name (only valid for Network Licenses)
MAC or Physical Address (only valid for Network Licenses)
Host ID (only valid for Network Licenses)

The serial number you are attempting to use does not match the product

There are several scenarios in which this mismatch can occur. Before registering and activating your license, please be sure the Serial Number you are using matches the product and release of the product and the type of license you have purchased.

The serial number is valid, but is associated with a different product (e.g., AutoCAD LT 2010 versus AutoCAD)
The serial number is valid, but is associated with a different version of AutoCAD (e.g., AutoCAD 2009 versus AutoCAD 2011)
The serial number is valid for a network deployment, but you are trying to activate the product as a standalone license (and vice versa)

The serial number you are attempting to use is truly not valid anymore

There are a couple of scenarios in which a serial number can be made obsolete. Before registering and activating your product, please be sure the Serial Number you are using matches the product and release of the product and the type of license you have purchased.

The serial number is associated with a product or a release of a product that you are not licensed to use
The serial number is obsolete and has been replaced with another serial number, in an effort to simplify a Subscription contract

The contact information you are using does not match what is already associated with the Serial Number when the product was registered

This usually occurs when there is a change to your name, the name of your company, or your address after the product was registered. Be sure to keep your contact information up to date in Register Once. There, you can add an account with your current information, register products to that account, and delete your old accounts, or those with outdated information.

Autocad2011: Error installing SP1 for Autodesk Navisworks

When attempting to install SP1 for your Autodesk Navisworks 2011 product you receive the error:
"Error 1402. Could not open key"

Solution

The cause of this issue is related to a key held by the Navisworks exporters. To resolve this issue, a temporary removal of the exporters should help. Here are the steps:

Access the Add/Remove Programs option from your Control Panel.
Click on 'Autodesk Navisworks 2011 32/64 bit Exporter Plug-ins' (NOT the Language Pack option).
Click the 'Uninstall/Change' button.
Click 'Add or Remove Features' option.
UNCHECK ALL of the checked options.
Click 'Next' and follow the prompts to remove the exporters.
Once the exporters are removed, install Service Pack 1 for your Autodesk Navisworks 2011 product.
After the Service Pack is installed, access the Add/Remove Programs option from your Control Panel.
Click on 'Autodesk Navisworks 2011 32/64 bit Exporter Plug-ins' (NOT the Language Pack option).
Click the ' Uninstall/Change' button.
Click 'Add or Remove Features' option.
Click 'Restore Defaults' to automatically check the appropriate options.
Click 'Next' and follow the prompts to install the exporters.

If this process does not correct the issue, remove the exporters completely. This process requires you to have the original installation files or to download the installers from the Autodesk website.
Here are the steps:

Access the Add/Remove Programs option from your Control Panel.
Click on 'Autodesk Navisworks 2011 32/64 bit Exporter Plug-ins' (NOT the Language Pack option).

How to perform an automated uninstallation of AutoCAD

Issue

You want an automated method for completely removing AutoCAD 2011 and related plug-ins from a system.

Solution

The provided VBScript will detect and uninstall 32-bit or 64-bit versions of English AutoCAD 2011 and language pack. It will also provide the option to uninstall the following plug-ins (if found):

AutoCAD 2011 Subscription Advantage Pack
AutoCAD WS plug-in for AutoCAD 2011
AutoCAD 2011 VBA Enabler

If you have multiple AutoCAD 2011-based products installed, these modules may be in use by more than just AutoCAD 2011. Do not uninstall them if they could be in use elsewhere.
The VBScript will then remove folders and registry keys related to the uninstalled product and plug-ins.

How to add multiple updates to a deployment of an AutoCAD 2011 product

Issue

You need to create or modify a deployment of an AutoCAD 2011 product such that it includes the latest update plus all previous updates.

Solution

Unlike previous releases, Update 2 for AutoCAD 2011 products do not include the fixes from the previous 2011 updates. This means that you must install the previous update before installing Update 2. It also presents a new workflow when creating deployments where you now have to include multiple updates in a deployment at the same time.
Note: AutoCAD 2011 Update 1 was subsequently replaced by Update 1.1. For simplicity, when this solution specifies Update 1, it is referring to Update 1.1 for AutoCAD 2011 and Update 1 for all other AutoCAD 2011 products.

Using the table above, download both Update 1 and Update 2 for your AutoCAD product from the Autodesk website.
Open a Windows command prompt and navigate to the folder where you downloaded the update files.
Extract the MSP files from the executables by entering the update file name followed by the /e switch and a target file name. For example:

AutoCAD2011Update2.exe /e .\AutoCAD2011Update2.msp
AutoCAD2011Update1.1.exe /e .\AutoCAD2011Update1.1.msp

or

ACM2011Update2.exe /e .\ACM2011Update2.msp

Launch the AutoCAD 2011 product installer and click “Create Deployments”.
Enter all of the information as you would for a typical deployment.
On the “Create Deployment” page, click the “Configure” button.
Click the “Next” button to get to the “Include Service Pack” page.

Warning: If you are modifying an existing deployment and the “Merge the Service Packs into the administration image MSI file” is selected and grayed out, the Administrative image was creating using the “Merge Service Packs” option. You cannot add updates to this deployment and have new updates installed with the deployment. You must create a new Administrative image in a different folder.
Select the option for “Include Service Pack(s) from local drive or local network”.
Click the “Add...” button, and select the Update 1 MSP file you extracted.
Repeat, using the “Add...” button to select the Update 2 MSP file (Update 2 cannot be added without Update 1).
If you are creating a new deployment, you may use either of these options:
Click “Next” when you are done adding the Service Packs.

Continue to create or modify the deployment as described in the documentation.

Enabling 3GB switch on Windows Vista or Windows 7

You want to enable the 3GB switch on the Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems.

To enable the 3GB switch on Windows Vista or Windows 7:

Right-click Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072"
Restart the computer.

To disable the 3GB switch:

Right-click on Command Prompt in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa"
Restart the computer.

Plot preview is blank

Issue

When you tried to plot a drawing using a PC3 file, the plot preview was blank or had objects missing.
Solution

This issue occurs if the Lines Merge option is enabled in the PC3 file and the plot preview background color has been set to black.

You can use one of the following methods to work around this issue:

Set Merge Control to Lines Overwrite

   1. In the Plotter Configuration Editor, click the Device and Documents Settings tab.
   2. On the Device and Documents Settings tab, expand the Graphics tree and select Merge Control.
   3. Select the Lines Overwrite option.

Set the Plot Preview Background color to white

   1. On the AutoCAD command line, enter options
   2. In the Options dialog box, click the Display tab.
   3. On the Display tab, click Colors and
          * In AutoCAD 2007, LT 2007, and later versions, select Plot Preview from the Context list and set the color to White.
          * In AutoCAD 2006 and LT 2006, select Plot Preview Background from the Windows Element list and set the color to White.

Note: Selecting any color other than black will also prevent this issue.

Plot the drawing directly using a windows system driver without using a PC3 file

This option will prevent lines from merging when the drawing is plotted.

Plot sizes are larger than with earlier releases

Issue

When plotting to a file, the plot file created is much larger than those created in earlier releases or the plot file size in the print queue.
Solution

Several issues with solid hatches have been resolved in AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, resulting in improved reliability of files. However, as a result of those improvements, drawings that contain solid hatches may produce larger plot files.

AutoCAD 2011® Subscription Advantage Pack can only be applied to the above products (installed as stand-alone or as part of a suite).

Installation

Log in to the Subscription Center and, based on your operating system, download one of the following self-extracting executable files to any temporary location:

Once the download has completed, double-click the .exe file and click Install (you may change the default destination folder of the extracted files). Once the extraction of the files is complete, the installer (setup.exe) will run automatically.

In the AutoCAD 2011 Subscription Advantage Pack Installation wizard, click Install Products where you can choose to install the following products:

Grid is populated very slowly in Vault Explorer 2008

Issue
When you selected a folder in Vault Explorer, you noticed that it was populated very slowly with the information from the files that it contains.
Solution

This may occur if the statistical information used by SQL to run certain queries is out of date. As a result, the grid is populated using an SQL query that is processed in an inefficient manner, causing a noticeable delay.

It is strongly recommend that you implement a Maintenance Plan as described in the Advanced Configuration Guide for ADMS 2008, which can be downloaded from the following web page:

In addition, it may be necessary to manually update the statistics for the Vault database. To do so, follow these steps:

   1. Using Microsoft® Notepad, create a new text file and insert the following text:

      osql.exe -S(local)\AUTODESKVAULT -Usa -P"AutodeskVault" -i UpdateStatistics.sql -o results.txt
      NET STOP MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT
      NET START MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT

   2. Save the file as "osql.bat".
   3. Create another text file and insert the following text:

Enhanced Attribute Editor (EATTEDIT) causes AutoCAD to crash

Issue
When you edit text for attribute tags, using the Enhanced Attribute Editor, AutoCAD® crashes with a CER option.
Solution

This conflict has been confirmed to be caused by a trojan whose name mutates but has the file extension DIL (capitalized for emphasis. It will appear in the directory as lower case d, capital I and lower case l).

To resolve this error, search for *.DIL and rename or delete any occurrences found, along with a DAT file of the same name.

More than 12 variants have been reported, including the following:

    * c:\windows\system32\stclieqt.dIl
    * c:\windows\system32\mscored.dIl
    * c:\windows\system32\fllbxg.dIl
    * c:\windows\system32\iibswt.dIl

Note: Some systems may have multiple versions with different names.

No valid file should have an extension .dIl (d-capital I-lower case l), so, if found, they can be safely renamed or deleted without affecting valid programs.

This trojan has been logged with Symantec and identified as the Backdoor.Coreflood Trojan. Symantec will be updating definitions files soon to catch it. It is designed to conduct Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. The trojan connects to an IRC server and gives control of the infected computer to an attacker.

The trojan is also designed to regenerate itself from random CLSIDs it creates in the registry, if the DIL and DAT files are removed.

The best solution, therefore, is to log the trojan with your antivirus provider and load and run their updated definitions list when it becomes available. Otherwise, the trojan will return.

Cannot connect to ADMS

Issue

You tried to log on to the Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) from Vault Explorer. However, after you entered the Server name and clicked the button next to the database field to find the list of Vault databases installed on that server, a red circle with a white exclamation mark was displayed instead.

When you moved your cursor over the icon, the tooltip displayed the following text:

No vaults have been found on this server.

However, you know that there are vaults on this server because other client computers can connect to it.

If you leave the database field blank and click OK, the following Log-in message is displayed:

The database name appears to be invalid; please try again.

If you manually add the name of the vault in the databases field and click the OK button, you receive the following message:

Destination Unreachable ---> WSE846: The <wsa:To> header must match the actor URI value of the webservice. The actor URI value can be explicitly specific using SoapActorAttribute on the ASMX class.......
Solution

To resolve this issue, configure Internet Explorer to bypass any proxy servers.

You are experiencing a crash during startup or while selecting, editing, or creating text.

Solution

Certain anti-spyware programs may conflict with these 2010 products and may cause the applications to crash at startup, issuing an unhandled exception error. AutoCAD may also crash when selecting, editing, or creating text.

Turning off tooltips for annotations

Issue

You want to turn off the tooltips that are displayed when you move the mouse cursor over symbols and balloons.

The display of tooltips is controlled by the system variable, ROLLOVERTIPS. To turn off tooltips, set this variable to 0.

Solution

There are two possible ways to resolve this issue:

Method 1

Copy the acdb17.dll and acdb17enures.dll files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared to the program folder for the applicable product.

Method 2

Change the Start in location for the applicable product's shortcut icon:

   1.
      Right-click the application's shortcut icon on the desktop. Click Properties.
   2. On the Shortcut Tab, enter the following file path in the Start in box:
