When you find out that you have diabetes it is easy to become overwhelmed by, all that you will need to do to manage this disease. Diet will be the first issue addressed by your physician because this is the area that has the biggest impact on treatment. Some people turn to strict diets that eliminate all animal products and sugar. Vegetarianism and diabetes has gotten a lot of attention over the years. Is it a good path to take?

Diabetes is a disease where your body cannot produce enough insulin. Insulin is what carries glucose in the blood and then to the cells to fuel them. If you have diabetes either your cells are not using the insulin correctly or the pancreas does not make enough insulin. This all causes a build up of blood sugar which can cause problems for your health.

Vegetarianism is a life change. You can go as strict as not eating meat at all or you can with other vegetarian diets you can eat mean on special occasions.

Whether you extremely strict or more lenient on whole a vegetarian diet are lower in calories than an average diet. Since weight, loss is a major goal of most diabetics this is a good plan. Weight loss can reduce the cells resistance to insulin, which in turn allows them to process sugar like they are supposed to.

Two common diseases caused by diabetes are cardiovascular disease and kidney disease. They come from complications in your diet from excess fat and cholesterol. By eating a vegetarian diet you can reduce fat and cholesterol.

To conclude, the vegetarian diet is very healthy for a diabetic. It helps to maintain your weight, lower cholesterol, and increase overall health.

Exercise burns fat. Excess weight causes a cycling effect. You become more fatigued with more weight and less apt to exercise or do other things that will help maintain a lower weight. Even eating moderately without exercise will result in increased weight. It doesn’t have to be a 3-hour stint at the gym to become healthier. You can lose weight without that huge block of time at the gym. Gradually increase the exercise and you’ll find yourself breaking that negative cycle.

Eating well balanced meals are the key to maintaining your health as a diabetic. Combine this with a daily exercise regime to use more calories than you take in. “Give me meat and potatoes!” used to be my motto. Then the doctor told me my triglycerides were up and if I didn’t start eating better I’d end up with diabetes. Talk about a scare! That caused me to start eating on a smaller plate, taking smaller portions and eating more vegetables. Eating fewer calories than you use (i.e. eat 1200 calories - use 1400 calories) is the key to gradual weight loss and a healthier body.

There’s always been a battle between those people who feel it’s better to eat raw vegetables and those who prefer the taste of cooked vegetables. While adding spices to the cooking process may improve flavor, the simple fact that you are cooking them kills some of the beneficial enzymes. Raw fruits and vegetables can provide enzymes your body needs. Vegetables are beneficial because they have fewer calories and provide fiber to your diet. Many vegetables, like lettuce and carrots help you to feel full while having limited the number of calories you’ve taken in.

While you’re becoming more physically fit, you might consider adding juice to your diet. You’ve got options . . . store bought or fresh squeezed. Store bought is convenient, of course, but the packaging process kills not only bad bacteria, but a lot of the good things you get from juices. Using a blender at home to prepare your own (without added sugar) is much better for you. Sometimes you have to develop a taste for fresh squeezed juices because they have less sugar in them, but this is a benefit to your diabetic concerns. Try red grapes and guava. Both are good at controlling blood sugar.

Doctors say we are an obese society. (My wife types doctors’ notes. I remember when she was typing a report the doctor noted a person being obese and she said, “He better NOT say that about me when I go in!”). Well, it’s true. Fast food restaurants pour on the fat and the sugar and then want to know if we want to “super-size” it. YOUR objective is to balance the things you eat.

Foods rich in fiber help clean fat and blood glucose from your system. Naturally, this lowers the blood sugar levels. We talk about foods high in fiber being vegetables and a lot of those are found in salads. Naturally, we consider salads good for you to keep your body clean. The next thing to consider are the salad dressings. Take care here because things like mayonnaise and extra sugars are used to enhance the dressing’s flavor. If you pour on the dressing, you’re defeating the benefit of eating the salads in the first place. Moderation is the key to using dressings. Another option is to use low-calorie / low-fat dressings.

The pancreas produces enzymes to digest food in addition to insulin to regulate the sugar level of the blood. Over a period of time, the pancreas starts to lose its ability to produce both in most people. This simply means a good diet becomes more important as people get older. Many doctors end up suggesting patients add a dose of acidophilus to their diet to ease the stress placed on the pancreas by adding bacteria into the system that assists with the digestive function.

When you look for fat-fighting compounds, you find them in vitamin D, calcium, fiber and omega-3s. Keep fish like tuna, salmon and sardines contain vitamin D as well as eggs and dairy products. Calcium is found in dairy products. Foods high in fiber include vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Finally, omega-3s can be found in fish, flax seed and walnuts.

When it comes to treating any form of diabetes there are many different things that a sufferer can do. Because both Types 1 and 2 are incurable, there are a number of different things a person can do in order to treat these conditions. They can manage the problem through the use of tablets and insulin supplements as well as a diabetes diet. The diabetes diet natural treatment means that the person is less likely to suffer from any unwanted side effects.

Certainly, there is plenty of advice not only available from your doctor and other health professionals regarding diabetes diets. In addition, the internet is a great place to search for information regarding the kinds of diets that diabetics can use in order to help manage their condition correctly.

But normally when a person has been first diagnosed with having diabetes their doctor will actually come up with a dietary plan for them. This is because initially actually being able to regulate the diabetics blood sugar levels can be very difficult to do.

It is at this stage of planning the diet that the person with diabetes should be asking questions as well as informing their doctor of their dietary and lifestyle habits. Also, arrange to have regular appointments with your doctor so that they are able to check to see how you are doing, plus deal with any problems, which you as a diabetic may have encountered.

Plus it is vital that during the first few months of using a diabetes diet you as a sufferer should keep a journal. In this you need to write down each day what foods you have eaten, how much of them and when they were consumed. Also it is vital that you write down any changes that occur to your blood sugar levels after you have eaten. Finally in this journal you need to provide any other information that your doctor feels is essential.

When it comes to planning any kind of diet for yourself or someone else who has diabetes you do not need to stick to a rigid one say as if you were trying to lose weight. Rather what you should do is eat sufficient amounts of those foods that are essential and are good for you. Below are some tips, which can help you when it comes to setting up a good diabetic diet.

1. As part of the diet a person should ensure that eat sufficient amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables. Ones, which are especially good for helping to manage this condition, are apples, bananas, oranges, carrots, red cabbage and beans. Also they should be aiming to eat both fruit and vegetables, which have high amounts of fiber in them, but these also need to have low levels of starch in them as well.

2. Secondly along with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables their diet should consist of whole grain foods rather than processed ones. So when making a Spaghetti Bolognese or Chilli Con Carne, use brown rice and whole grain spaghetti instead.

If a diabetic keeps the above in mind along with any other information or instructions that their doctor provides they will find that they are able to control the condition much better. Also a diabetes diet natural treatment means that the chances of them suffering from any untoward side effects are greatly reduced also.

by Ken P Doyle

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive illness, is a serious mood disorder that affects approximately one percent of Americans. Though many people focus on the depressive episodes associated with the illness, it’s important to note that bipolar mania requires just as much attention and support.

Symptoms of Bipolar Mania and What are they.

Bipolar mania is, essentially, the opposite of depression. Some of the common symptoms include increased energy, decreased need for sleep, rapid speech, euphoria, hypersexuality, and impulsiveness. Many people experiencing bipolar mania can be described as “hyper active.”

Another symptom that is common but not always noticeable by family and friends is racing thoughts, which can be disjointed. This causes the patient to be easily distracted, even by things that seem very unimportant. This distractedness can often be seen in the conversations people have with those suffering from bipolar mania. The patient will jump from topic to topic quickly, or make “clang associations,” which is the association of words based on how they sound.

In some cases the impulsiveness associated with bipolar mania can be dangerous. Patients do not think about the consequences of their actions because their judgments are impaired. This leads to reckless and risky behaviors that may even endanger the patient, or others. Bipolar support groups are important in the treatment and management of bipolar mania.

What Support is there for Bipolar Mania?

Beneficial to those struggling with bipolar mania is having access to a bipolar support group. Through a support group patients are able to relate to others in the group and they in turn help him/her put feelings, decisions, and thoughts into perspective. In addition to seeing a psychiatrist or counselor on a regular basis, support groups are incorporated into the regular psychotherapy for the treatment of manic depressive illness of bipolar.

Offering expert advice about comments and questions that come up, bipolar support groups are comprised of patients which is led by a counselor or psychiatrist who facilitates meetings and gets patients conversing. Because many of the decisions they’re making are from the illness and not from how they are feeling, support groups can be a good “sounding board” for patients with bipolar.

Many people know about the support they can get for bipolar depression. Unfortunately, because they feel “good” when manic, they don’t seek the support they need, and this can be just as dangerous as avoiding help when depressed. Bipolar support groups offer great resources for anyone suffering from bipolar depression or bipolar mania.

How to get more information about bipolar.

One very valuable website is knowingbipolardisorder.com, with lots of information available about bipolar mania and bipolar support groups. It is an authority site in educating the public on manic depressive illness and other helpful topics for patients, friends and family to able cope with the disease.

by Brian Johnson

You have decided you need to lose some weight and that you’re going on a diet and you’ve told yourself that this will be the last diet that you’ll ever do. This is because you’ve already heard so much about the Atkins Diet, that you have total confidence in its ability to help you reduce weight and to keep it off. You also know that with the assistance of the Atkins diet plan, you can tailor your diet to suit your body and your personal tastes.

When you commence your diet, you’ll get an Atkins diet plan that will get you started on the first leg of your dieting journey. This is phase one, the induction phase, of four phases which you will go through. So what you’re really getting with the Atkins diet plan is a great way for you to choose the path you take on your diet and how long it will take you to lose the amount of weight you want to.

Although, you don’t have follow the Atkins diet plan religiously, if you really want fast results, you will follow it religiously. So, abstain from the carbs and eat your high fat, high protein meals. Well, you won’t need to stay away from carbs entirely, you’ll just need to make yours a low carb diet instead of the high carb diet you’ve been following so unthinkingly all of your life so far.

However, by following the Atkins diet plan and all but cutting out carbs from your diet, you reduce the chances of your diet failing and going to the dogs. After all, this time you’ve decided that this is your last diet and that you’re going to make it work, so it is really no use tempting fate and going, even if slightly, off course from your Atkins diet plan.

Remember that the whole plan is adaptable to suit you, and to help you make your dieting limitations easier to bear. With that in mind, also remember that you can also eat at least 20 carbs on the Atkins diet plan, but you will have a virtually unlimited buffet of proteins and fats available to you. So, you don’t have to be afraid that your diet is going to cost you the pleasures of eating well.

Once on the Atkins diet plan, you’ll find out that you can eat very well without missing your carbs very much. And even though you might think that cooking and planning meals will be difficult, if you have to stay within the limitations of the Atkins diet plan, you’ll be gratefully relieved to find that it is just not true.

There are many fantastic foods and meal plans available on the Atkins diet plan and if you can just make it through reading your Atkins diet plan, you’ll find that you really can make it through this diet with hardly any sacrifice on your part. Now that’s what I call the diet to end all diets! And isn’t that just what you wanted anyway?

Diabetes is chronic disease that occurs commonly among the population. It either manifest itself due to your poor diet or inherited from your parents. Learn which herb you can use to treat it naturally without using conventional drugs, which may have some undesirable side effects.

Among the herbs, bitter stands out as the herb to use in diabetes treatment. It is suggested that the bitter gourd be taken often in your diet if you are diabetic. The bitter gourd juice should be consumed in the morning on an empty stomach. As an alternative, you can take it in its powder form, which can be mixed with water or even used in your food. Indian gooseberries have a high concentration of vitamin C, which is good in helping to control diabetes. The bitter gourd and the Indian gooseberry can be mixed together to make a potent mixture that is great for treating diabetes. Taken every other month, it works by stimulating the pancreas to produce insulin.

Another amazing herb is butea leaves. The leaves work by reducing and controlling your blood sugar level. You use the leaves by boiling them and take the infusion either hot or cold. Mango leaves, that are either dried or in its powder form, can be taken daily with water. Place some dried leaves in the water overnight and let saturate for you to drink in the morning. It has been noted to help treat and improve the condition of diabetes.

Chewing on ten curry leaves will help with the treatment of diabetes. Aside from treating diabetes, the curry leaves are able to help in weight loss. Curry leaves can be used in cooking and making of salads. It is known to be especially helpful in dealing with hereditary diabetes.

There are many ways you can use fenugreek seeds for diabetes. You can soak the fenugreek seeds in water the night before and drink the water in the morning before breakfast. Alternatively, you can add fenugreek seed powder to milk and be consumed daily. One or two teaspoons of whole fenugreek seeds can be taken before you sleep. You can even add the fenugreek seeds to your cooking and a little herbal spice.

Cinnamon is another herb that has multiple benefits. It can help cure loss of appetite, maintains blood sugar levels and helps indigestion. It is recommended that cinnamon powder be taken with honey at night. Cinnamon is a great spice to use in the preparation of food and vegetables.

However, it must be noted that you should refer to your doctor if you wish to try herbal remedies. You might be taking prescription drugs that may have interactions with some herbs. It is in everyone’s interest that necessary precautions are taken so that we treat the diabetes effectively and safely.

The list of herbs mentioned is not an exhaustive one. There are still many more herbs that can be used to treat diabetes naturally. Maybe they can be discussed in another article. Regardless of the lack of space, the herbs mentioned would be more than enough for you to start going on the path of natural treatments for diabetes.

More and more children and kids are being diagnosed with diabetes. The epidemic has changed from originally effecting most adults to know kids.

Many that are obese are at risk for type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes interferes with your body ability to process insulin correctly. This is the first thing you need to understand about the disease.

Individuals who have a family history of diabetes, especially those whose parents were diagnosed with diabetes are often quite likely to develop the disease. In children who have been afflicted over 90% will have dark and shiny skin patches that can be found in areas where the skin creases like the back of the neck or in between fingers.

It’s true that one’s genetic makeup can predispose them to having diabetes, but more and more it has been discovered that when children are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes it is due to environmental and behavioral influences. For many of today’s youth, their obesity levels have been on the rise. This is really due to the foods and exercise routine that the children are exposed to or the lack there of. Today’s grocery stores are filled with processed and sugary foods that can really wreck havoc with a child’s blood sugar levels.

If your family has a history of diabetes or is overweight then it is a good idea to get him or her tested. This is especially true when the child is over the age of ten or has experience puberty. The younger a child is diagnosed the easier it is to manage the disease and make it a lifestyle change for them.

Many of the parents choices for food and diet can effect their kids health. So try to avoid giving your kid unhealthy foods to decrease the chance of them getting diabetes.

A very common, and astonishing results of ‘doing’ the Atkins diet is the suppression of appetite. A lot of the advocates of the plan state that the inter meal hunger pangs they used to have just vanish and quite rapidly too. This fact makes it easier to remain on the diet and keep to lose weight. While other diets leave their followers starving between meals, the Atkins dieters receive relief from continuous hunger. The Atkins diet, with its specific recommendation of foods and ingredients, has powerful appetite suppressing effects.

The first key component is the amount of protein in the Atkins diet. Protein, a lot so than carbohydrates, has the capability to assuage hunger pangs. If you have ever eaten a carbohydrate dense meal and then felt hungry again shortly afterwards, you know that carbohydrates don’t have much staying power as a hunger satisfier. Protein, on the other hand, when it is combined with a small amount of healthy fats, can keep you feeling satisfied for much longer periods of time.

One of the most powerful appetite suppressing foods in the Atkins diet is the egg. Eggs are a great sort of quick and easy protein. A recent study revealed that eating eggs for breakfast would actually stave off hunger pangs throughout the rest of the day. The research concerned two groups of women. One group ate eggs for breakfast and the other had a breakfast of bread and cream cheese.

The calorie count for both breakfasts was precisely the same. The subjects noted down what they ate for the rest of the day and answered questions about their hunger levels and satisfaction levels throughout the day. The results of the study showed that the women who ate the eggs for breakfast felt more satisfied throughout the entire day and they ate less at each meal than those women who were in the bagels group.

Eggs contain about 6 grammes of protein each, which helps to even out blood sugar and produces a feeling of satisfaction. Both of these factors help to curb cravings. Egg yolks also contain lutein and xenazanthin. These nutrients have been shown to have incredible effects on eye health. So it’s important to eat the whole egg, and not just the white. Eggs contain choline which is important for maintaining brain function and memory. These nutrients are just an added benefit to the appetite suppressing qualities.

Broccoli and cauliflower, two of the most suitable vegetables on the Atkins diet, also have appetite-suppressant effects. These vegetables are very bulky and they help make your stomach feel full. When your stomach is full, it will actually create a chemical response in your body. Your body will reduce its call for food because it believes that your stomach is full of high calorie foods. This will happen regardless of what is in your stomach. You can achieve the same results with water and psyllium husk fiber. Both broccoli and cauliflower provide bulk in your diet and are essential vegetables on the Atkins diet.

The Atkins diet recommends eating small, protein packed meals a few times per day. This will help maintain your blood sugar level in a stabilized state and avoid carbohydrate-induced cravings. With high carbohydrate diets, you are riding a roller-coaster of carbohydrate highs. After you have eaten, you feel great and full. Then after a few hours, you come crashing down and are hungrier than you were previous to eating the carbohydrates. This cycle continues ad infinitum and, over time, you will eat more and more and eventually put on weight.

The protein, fat and vegetable meals of the Atkins plan put your blood sugar back in balance. They give you just enough of each type of food, with a proper amount of carbohydrates (from the vegetables). The vegetables provide quick carbohydrate energy, and the protein gives the meal its staying power. This combination helps suppress your appetite throughout the day.

The Atkins diet is really a craving control plan that helps suppress your appetite - your desire for food or calories. If you’ve had a problem with carbohydrate cravings before, this new way of eating ie dieting will help control those cravings. The more you eat on the plan, the better your cravings will be controlled and the easier it will be to follow the diet - the more you practice the diet the easier it gets, because you won’t want to eat carbohydrates all the time.
