Hello,

Everything arrived today: the new Alibre V12 printed manual (updated version), a new set of V12 training DVDs, software media and more.

We needed to endure a small wait on account of an important update to Alibre design V12.

As stated before, an important minor patch has been available to Alibre design which fixes a minor international date stamp bug in the native part file format. All Alibre V12 users are encouraged to get the free update if they have not already done so.

We will start shipping out all the demo DVDs which have been requested - sorry again about the wait and thank you for your patience.

Thanks for your answer. My background is now back to black as it was before. That was the main correction I wanted.

Regarding your question about why I am drawing by pixels instead of math units, my answer is as follows: For the most part I am using math units and entering the actual coordinates for endpoints of lines or snapping to objects which are already in the right place, etc. However, I have observed some cases where when I zoom in and look closely the lines are not quite in the right place (although I thought I had put them in the right place). For example, in one case (to the best of my recollection) I created a drawing with functions such as trimming and snapping to objects and extending and other functions which should put everything just where it should be. Then, however, I tried to fill in part of the shape with cross hatching and it would not fill. It turned out that when I zoomed in and looked closely parts of the area I was trying to fill were not closed - the lines were not touching. This is an example of how in some cases it might be useful to just move an object very slightly, pixel by pixel, until the object is in the right place.

So moving objects with an arrow key is just a function that I might occasionally want to use.

Hi uraniumtiger,

Your answers:

(1) progeCAD automatically displays black colour entities as white when the background itself is black. This is also normal behaviour in AutoCAD. Since you switched the background colour to white, this "deactivates" the white entity switch and displays geometries' true colour - black.

In this case you only need to switch the background colour again (Tools -> Options -> "Display" tab -> check "Graphics screen color" in Paper Preview section ... I have no idea why this is part of "paper preview" so please don't ask

You also might have to (re)save the default template you are using if blank drawings start on white as well.

(2) Arrow keys work slightly different in progeCAD. They are used for realtime PAN & zoom, also to scroll through command history and similar functions. Do you mind much if I ask why you are drawing by pixels instead of real math units? Sounds like something I would do in raster graphics software like GIMP, CAD is vector-based.

Thanks for the information regarding the fonts, I changed over to Times SHX and it works well.

My next biggest problem is the opening and working with an external drawing. I will try drawing from from a different source and see if that fails as well and get back to you.

I am not sure, but do you have the path to the folder containing this (these) XREFs included in your progeCAD XREF path (Tools -> Options -> "Files/Paths" tab)

For the your problem with text disappearing, I would like to know what happens when you change the font from Windows font to one of the AutoCAD SHX fonts.

progeCAD does support some of the entities listed in your error, I will need more information.

As stated before, after testing the items above, please then send a sample drawing demonstrating the error(s) with some indication in your mail as to where to look. Attach your DWG file to the email send to:

Here are the requested details as per below.
Audit of my drawing shows no errors.

Graphics Card: ATI RADEON HD 2400 PRO
Progecad version 9.0.28.10
Font type Times New Roman
Windows type XP

I am also having difficulty downloading a full external file.
Audit unable to read the external Ref; file title block.

If I download an external drawing by another author I have tried converting....

If converting the following entities are unsupported...
ACIS Solid
Multiline text.
Proxy entities on layout
Proxy with single entities

The file only shows 'Auto Cad' as the source.
Some files. I can never edit an external drawing.

Hi folks,

I have two questions about ProgeCAD 2008, which I am using:

(1) Suddenly all my drawings switched from consisting of white lines on a black background to black lines on a white background. I can't seem to find how to switch it back and I don't know what I clicked to inadvertently make this change. Does anyone know how I can get back to white lines on a black background?

(2) I previously used AutoCAD and, if I recall correctly, there was a way to move a selected object by a single pixel at at time. I think the method was to hold down the Control key while pressing one of the arrow keys and the selected object would then move (in the direction indicated on the arrow key which was pressed) by a single screen pixel at a time. Anyway, I have been unable to find a similar function in ProgeCAD. Does anyone know of such a function?

Please run "audit" and "purge" first on this drawing and post the results. May I ask:

1) What graphics card you have
2) What version progeCAD you use? (9.0.28.10 is the latest)
3) What font are you using for text? Is this single text or multiline text? What is the font size?
4) Are you using Vista?

Send a file from where to where? Which CAD system is your contact using? What entities are missing? Does your drawing contain xrefs?

That sounds like everything tied together as a block or xref. We will have a look when you send the file.

So it sounds like you are receiving your drawings in from one source program, editing them and then sending them out to another. Is this correct? What are your "audit" and "purge" command results of these files when you first get them, please? What software are they all using?

I recently received building plans which I need to access and edit.
In sending a file through for comments I was informed the the file was missing entities.
I have just duplicated the procedure receiving plans from an entirely different source and the results are the same.
If I delete a hatch or close a layer, all the actual drawings disappear.
How do I overcome this problem

Why is it that some text disappears after editing and will only reappear when I refresh or do a regenerate. This can be time consuming when editing a lot of data.

-after it crashes we loose the tab when we reopen the drawing.
-Yes just the same as when we do it without auditing

Ok thanks can try to install that see if it helps the issue (incase it returns)

We havent tried sending it to the printer directly either as of yet. But at the moment ProgeCAD is printing without any problems.

BTW a developer added a couple of questions to this thread, just to confirm:

-if you open the drawing after having it printed (with error) and saved, does it look correct?
-if you do the "Audit" command before printing the drawing, then you print and save it. does the same problem happen?

However, I could also suggest possibly bypassing the print server altogether may help. But it is only possible if your Infotec B&W A3 plotter has built-in network card (optional?).

Postscript is an (another) optional feature of the Infotec product line, according to the PDF product brochure in your web link... was just asking if you had it, that's all.

To explain, the background to this overall problem is: Along with entity data, progeCAD also saves some aspects of current working environment, such as current printer information, in the DWG file. This is part of the DWG file format "specification" (using that word very loosely). However, your print server may be feeding progeCAD invalid or incompatible information that makes progeCAD strangely die as you describe. This is not uncommon in CAD world, AutoCAD has its fair shake of hardware compatibility nightmares as well - especially with version 2010 graphics card compatibility from what I understand..

Sometimes it takes some patient sleuthing to isolate the exact cause and remedy.

Okay the strange thing is here, this morning everything seems to work as it should now and we aren't getting the same error as mentioned in this post. Not sure if we did anything to fix this or if it was solved overnight when the server installed new updates?

But this is what was happening:

1) It was happening in both.
2) No option for this in the driver, is it done in ProgeCAD?
3) Not sure its working this morning
4) We tried using the default template provided in ProgeCAD and the same error occurred.
5) Windows print server
6) Yes its just B&W
