That's what we thought. Do you want to save the planet, too? Buying the right monitor can not fix the world, but paying attention to energy consumption when you buy to help make the world a better place while saving a few pennies. In these pages will explain why the consumption of energy is important, what you can do to conserve power, as different monitors stack up against each other to power conservation, and how CNET tests monitor energy consumption.

Conserving energy can save you money
The less energy your monitor stepping, lower your monthly electricity bill. How much lower? It depends on two key factors. The first is how often you use your monitor does not have to sit in front of it, surf the Internet, games or editing spreadsheets, just how often your monitor is turned on and displays the image. The second factor determining how much you will save the brightness setting on your monitor, which controls the intensity of lighting your desk. The lower you set your light, the less power you use.
You can not save the world just by turning off your monitor when you leave the house, but you're not helping matters of leaving, either. By conserving the amount of energy you use, you can reduce demand for fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. Less burning of fossil fuels means lower emissions of carbon dioxide, the primary contribution to global warming. It's as simple as that. And then, of course, there's the money-saving perk. More.

How can I save my energy monitor?
Sleep mode is your friend
Make sure when you are in front of your monitor, the device is resting up. You can set the sleep mode in Windows by going to Control Panel and choosing the Power Options. Select the Power Schemes tab and under involved, change the "Turn off monitor" field to whatever time suits you. (We recommend at least 5 minutes to avoid approve your monitor off while reading a long article.)

Turn down your light
Light is one of the most important attributes to determine how much power monitor retreats, and is usually referred to as "Light" in the display screen of your monitor. Adjust the volume of the monitor affects the amount of light emitted by its light. In our tests, we found that trumps every other light setting for energy saving; monitors had the same amount of energy whether we were watching a game or Blu-ray movies, while the light setting is consistent.
You may be wondering how contrast fits all. Truth is not. Because the contrast setting controls only the white level and the monitor has nothing to do with lighting, not to have an effect on energy consumption.

If your monitor has a switch, use
Most LCD monitors are not turned completely off when you press the button and still draw some amount of energy. To ensure your monitor is not drawing power, click off the switch - usually found on the underside of your desk, near its connection options - if you have. Switch acts as an extra degree of power conservation. If the switch is, the monitor can be turned by pressing the button, but if you turned off the monitor can be turned in - even by the key - unless the switch is turned back.
If you're going to be away from your computer for a day or more and your monitor has no switch, unplug from the wall to make sure it is not sucking power.

Upgrade from CRT to LCD
If you're still using a CRT monitor, consider finally taking the plunge LCD screen. Not only will you save money and consume less power, but will also have more space on your desktop mouse pads, keyboards, and a little plush dolls, if you're in that sort of thing.
We tested the Sony GDM520K 20-inch CRT via VGA and based on our test methodology (see the test LCD monitor energy consumption) of the annual cost of CRT is 63 percent higher than the 20-inch widescreen HP 2009m.
Upgrade of Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) to light-emitting diode (LED)
CCFL and LED related to the types of lighting in the LCD monitor. Most monitors use CCFL backlighting, not so effective in filling the screen with light from the LED backlight. CCFL backlight, consists of several tubes arranged horizontally across the rear panel monitor. With LED lights, there are many individual LED diodes around the back of each screen that can not be excluded either. This gives very precise LED displays on the control amount of light coming through the screen, and therefore more efficient in energy consumption. LED-based LCDs also have the potential to perform better than CCFL monitors color accuracy and can be produced with much thinner slabs based CCFL screen.
We tested three LED LCD monitors, Dell G2210, Dell G2410 and ViewSonic VLED22. In our tests, Dell G2210 and G2410 LED really lived up to the hype, earning all our energy saving seal. The ViewSonic VLED22, not so much. The ViewSonic does not bad, just not to our energy saving standards (see the test LCD monitor energy consumption).

Take a smaller monitor
We know, playing Crysis on your 30-inch Dell in 2560 X1 ,600-pixel resolution is a reason to live, but it is also the reason for Energy company expect your monthly energy readings. The fewer pixels lighting should illuminate, the less power it uses. If you can stomach a smaller monitor, know that it will save you cash.

Panel Technology
Another factor that determines how much energy a monitor draws a type of panel it uses. In our tests, we found that the Twisted Nematic (TN) panels percenr pull 45 to 49 percent less juice super patterned vertical alignment (S-PVA) models with the same size. Obviously, IPS panels (which usually have better visual quality than TN panels) require more power for that extra pizzazz.

How To Boot Backtrack From CD/USB

How to boot backtrack from CD / USB
Follow the steps outlined below to make quitting bootable CD / USB
Things
1st The first thing we need is quitting ISO. The first step is to open a command line and follow the procedures as shown below.
Win + R -> cmd
Set the path in the command line as C: WindowsSystem32>

#2. Then type “diskpart”, a new window will appear as follows.

C:WindowsSystem32>diskpart

#3. Next, type “list disk” command to show the status about the disks i.e. it displays the number of disks available in system.

If pen drive was inserted then it shows list disk as Disk 0 and Disk 1 as shown in figure.

DISKPART>list disk

#4. So, after finishing this one we have to select our pen drive disk to make it bootable. For this one use the following command as shown

DISKPART>select disk 1

Because our pen drive disk is 1 (compare the sizes of the disks then you can make a note which disk is our pen drive).

Next type “list disk” command to make sure that our drive is selected or not

DISKPART>list disk

Then it shows a star mark at left side to make sure that drive is selected.

The procedure is as follows

#5. Next we have to clear our pen drive memory space and make it empty. The command is as follows

DISKPART>clean

Then a message is displayed as follows “DiskPart succeeded in cleaning the Disk”.

Next type “create partition primary” to create a primary partition. The command is as follows

DISKPART>create partition primary

A message will display as “DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition”.

Next type “select partition 1” to create a partition. The command is as follows

DISKPART>select partition 1

“Partition 1 is now the selected partition” message will display.

Type “active” command to mark the current partition as active. The command is as shown below.

DISKPART>active

A message “DiskPart marked the current partition as active” will display.

The working of the above commands is shown in the below screenshot as follows

# 6. above (eg, 8GB) should be good.
1 - Go to the Applications folder and right click (or Control-click) the 'Install Mac OS X Lion "and select" Show package contents.

2 - Go to Content> SharedSupport folder

3 - Copy InstallESD.dmg to someplace (eg. your Desktop)

4 - Open Utilities > Disk Utility.app and click on your USB drive in the left pane. Then click 'Partition'.

5 - Enter a name for the partition and make sure the format is set to 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.

6 - Click 'Options' and choose 'GUID Partition Table' as the partioning scheme.
You plug in the USB device and nothing happens or you get an error that says something like USB flash drive is not recognized. What do we do then?
Flash drives need no introduction and almost everyone owns today for fast data transfer and data storage purpose. Flash drives are also known by other names such as jump drives, pen drives, thumb drives, USB sticks, and others. There can be times when these devices useful data can give some problems when you connect to a PC. The most common problem when a USB device is connected to a computer flash drive is not recognized error.
When that kind of error before troubleshooting step that should take is to turn off the computer, remove the pen drive from the port and try again after sometime. The closure of the system and reboot again, the computer drivers Reload removable drive, pen drive and then can eventually start to work. If this basic step does not seem to work, can move to the next step.

Flash Drive not recognized - causes and solutions
Computer virus
Many times, computers may be infected with a virus, which is why it can work in some strange way. This may even affect the proper functioning of any USB device that is connected to the system. To prevent this problem, it is recommended to install a good antivirus software and periodically scan and clean your computer. Purchase of licensed and updated version that will not only prevent any infection from malware, Trojans, spyware and other computer viruses, but also scan to a USB storage device data as soon as it is connected to a computer.
Device Driver Corrupted or not present
There are also possibilities that the USB device driver may be corrupted, causing flash drive can not recognize. To troubleshoot this problem flash drive, you must first uninstall the driver and then reinstall it again. You can do a proper uninstall the driver from Device Manager, which can be accessed through the "My Computer" or "Control Panel". To install drivers back again, use the CD-ROM that came with the flash drive. In older operating systems, there are no such drivers are present in the computer. So a USB flash drive to be recognized, you will need to install drivers from CD driver first.
No connection to port
If you are trying to plug in flash drive USB port which is located in front of the cabinet processor can not work and can not even get any error. The reason is simply that the extension cables can be incorporated to provide connectivity on the front. In case you were previously using the front USB ports without any issues, and are now unrecognizable device error, extension cables may be to blame. You need to open the cabinet and check the problem on.
If any of the steps above problems do not seem to work, then probably the flash drive itself is to blame. To make sure that the flash drive is operating properly, use another computer and check if it works fine. If you get an error similar to the flash drive is not recognized, shut down computer, remove the USB connection, and check after reboot. If still not working, then probably the USB device is faulty and should try another flash drive or USB device.

Get Help from us to solve your problems with Flash Drives

USB Flash Drive not work on Macintosh
Follow these steps if your USB Flash / Pen Drive not recognized or mount on Mac
Scenario 1:
If the light blinks and the drive stays or goes out, and they show signs of multiple computers, then the maximum chances are that the device is faulty and should be replaced (if under warranty) or time to get a new one!
Scenario 2:
If the device is used for the first time, verify the computer's operating system to ensure that the device is compatible. Also, if the drive device includes a center or in your USB keyboard, plug it directly into a USB port on the computer. If it works there, the question is the device that was previously connected. The device can put more power than the port provides.
Scenario 3:

If the device is used for work, and now his work and the light comes on then there is a strong possibility that we can still fix this drive. Follow these steps:
* Step 1: Turn on the device MAC and are waiting for any signs of recognition, if not get anything Jump to step 2.
* Step 2: Check System Profiler to find if the disk is recognized at all or not. (System Profiler as the Device Manager in Windows) Click the Apple and click on About this Mac.
This tells you the version of MAC, as 10.5.2 and the opportunity for more information
Step 3: If the MAC version is supported by the device click on more information, select USB on the left panel and look for the device to the USB device tree on the right.
If the device does not appear in System Profiler

The question is more likely to be a hardware problem. Test if the flash drive does not work on other computers and if it does not work on another computer seems to be the USB port is not functioning properly.
If the device appears in System Profiler
Even if the device does not work, the issue is usually due to software. Jump to the next step
* Step 4 - Check Disk Utility
To the desktop, open the hard drive> Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility.
Type / space / the path and click Go
Make sure you keep the capital V.
- You'll find the window size
- Highlight the name of your device if it shows mounted at the top, click on the mountain, so that changes to Unmount
- If the device now appears on the desktop if you are still not there, then follow the following steps
. Click the Go menu on the desktop and click the Go to Folder
Look for a flash drive in the window if it is present there, click on it to make sure that you can view your data
If you are able to view your data are good to go, you can drag and drop the volume of the work here and will appear there as well
- If the device fails to appear in the volume menu from there you be the best solution is to try updating drivers or create a new user.

PSP - USB Device Not Recognized

PSP - USB Device Not Recognized
I tried to connect my PSP to my computer, but when I connected the USB to PSP error message appears on the taskbar stating: ". I never thought that the problem is the USB cable because it was day before.

Flash Drive Not Recognized?

Flash Drive not recognized?
Seeing the flash drive is not recognized error pop-up on your computer is both good and bad news.
The bad news is obvious, your jump drive not working, which means that if qoute lies in your computer, flash drive, or it was a fluky one-time incident. The good news is that this situation is fairly easy to fix and most of the time it will not cost you money.
Flash Drive

This message can occur hundreds of different reasons, literally. One of the main problems is that people often ignore the "safely remove hardware" option when they remove their flash drive from their computer. Often data is downloaded it gets corrupted and may damage the jump drive together.
Less favorite reasons why this message appears containing a broken jump drive or a computer running the operating law that is out of date.
The best way to fix this qoute is simply try again. Take your flash drive to break 10 seconds and try again. There is a minute job and no risk here, so it does not hurt to at least try. If it does not work, try restarting your computer, at least half of all computer problems can be solved by simple restart.

This qoute seems aimed Windows based computers and laptops primarily, but Mac, and even the PS3 and Xbox 360 are known to spit this error message. Make sure you cool and assume that your jump drive is broken.
Flash Drive not recognized?

Why Flash Drive Not Detected Computer??

Flash Drive not detected Computer
Some things should be suspected when the UFD (USB flash drive) that are not detected when the camera into the computer, among others:
- Damaged USB Port
- Setting up the problem (bios, Windows)
- Driver problems
- Damaged by natural
- Others

Why Flash Drive Detected Computer
To try to overcome it can make the following points: Try our USB plug in another USB port / switch-move, if they failed to try to plug in another computer, if successful, then we are not problematic USB and doubt 100% of the computer.
Or the opposite, try another USB port on your computer (if any) / or other devices that use USB ports. When you need to disconnect the flash drive, use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and tell Windows that you want to remove the flash drive. Then, Windows will write any data waiting (Windows XP uses a delayed-write cache to speed up programs), and then says that drive is not connected. Finally, it tells you that the flash drive can now be removed. But if you just pull the flash drive without doing Safely Remove Hardware step, you may lose data that you thought was already written on the flash drive.

Also, Windows will not properly turn off its internal settings for the drive. This means that if you insert the drive again Windows XP will not recognize. You must reboot your computer to restore the flash drive recognition.
Instead of using the Windows option, I personally prefer a free portable utilities EjectUSB, who will perform all the flash drive close to me.

How to set a fresh partition to USB Drive?

If the USB device has a permanent failure recognition, and data on disk is not essential for you might just try creating a new partition. Then, you try to scan for hardware devices. However, the computer detects a device attached, and you do not see the device in My Computer folder. Does the problem look familiar to you? Well, it happens once a while with everyone.
Image and video hosting by network

To fix this issue, I would recommend the following action plan:
1st First, we patiently waited a little to ensure that the problem is not related to your computer is busy and dealing with other things.
2nd If you include this device into a USB hub, it could point to the center failure to perform due to power failure or just outside. Try to switch the device directly into a USB port on the front, or if it does not help, in the back of your computer.
3rd Restart the computer and try again to join back.
4th Check performance USB drive to another computer and see if the problem connected with the drive itself.
5th If the USB device works fine on another computer, you can return to your original computer problems.
6th Go to Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Disk Management to drive in the computer and see if the letter is connected with USB. If not, assign a drive letter.
7th Access Device Manager and check whether you see any signs of your drive there. Keep in mind that depending on the configuration computer, your USB drive can appear in different sections, such as disk, DVD / CD-ROM devices, or Universal Serial Bus controls as USB Mass Storage. If not see if the yellow question mark, delete. Then, scan for software changes and see if the drive will appear as a healthy element of the configuration.
8th Access Device Manager and remove all items related to USB such as USB root hub, etc, reboot the computer twice to let Windows install properly, then try the flash drive again.
9th Next step is the registry change related, so you should be careful making any changes.

The best way is to play safe, and making a backup registry (registry by exporting the registry patch) before making any changes.
1st Get in the Registry Editor - Press Start -> Run, type regedit in the window, and press OK.
2nd Click on my computer. Then press File Export, assign easily recognizable file name to backup the registry.
3rd Navigate to the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / Control / StorageDevicePolicies.
4th In the right panel select "writeprotect".
5th Reset the value to '0 '.
6th Repeat for the registry key ControlSet001 and ControlSet002, if they exist.
7th Now plug your USB drives and should work. Else just reboot the machine to try.
10th The last step is also associated with registry changes, and recommended by the Microsoft Knowledge Base, the deletng UpperFilters registry value and LowerFilters registry value. To do this, follow these steps:
1st Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2nd Locate and then click UpperFilters registry value. This value is in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3rd The menu Edit, click Delete, and then click OK.
Note If you receive an error when you try to delete the registry subkey may not have appropriate permissions to edit the subkey.
4th Locate and then click LowerFilters registry value. This value is in the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5th The menu Edit, click Delete, and then click OK.
Note If you receive an error when you try to delete the registry subkey may not have appropriate permissions to edit the subkey.
6th Exit Registry Editor.
7th Restart the computer.

LCD LED CRT Power Consumption

Display power consumption

I picked up a Kill-a-Watt a while back in hopes of learning more about energy consumption - how much does a second hard drive, increased RAM, or adding a USB 2.0 card increase the current draw on my G4 Power Macs. I'll get to that eventually, but I have done some testing of computer displays - and made some interesting discoveries.
The first one I tested was a 17" Gateway 2000 Vivitron 1770 that I picked up at a moving sale for $3. Who can resist that kind of price? I wondered if it might draw less power than my current monitor, and the Energy Star sticker was encouraging.
My Blue & White Power Mac G3 booted to 800 x 600 resolution at 60.3 Hz, and the Kill-a-Watt reported the display was drawing 90W. Bumping resolution to 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz, that dropped a bit to 88W. Changing the refresh rate to 70 Hz increased that to 92W. This display has an 1152 x 870 setting - at 75 Hz, it draws 97W. Finally, at 1280 x 1024 and 60 Hz, that drops a bit to 95W. And when Energy Saver puts the display to sleep, elecricity usage drops to 3.6W.
This is an older monitor, not especially crisp, and slow to wake up, but it's a contender for use on a server, where it will only be powered on when necessary. The 1152 x 870 75 Hz setting is a good compromise between resolution and a steady display. (60 Hz tends to create a subtle flicker that can tire your eyes over time.)

Not bad for $3 - and I also got a free 15" 10-year-old Dell E550 at the same moving sale. It draws a whole lot less power - between 49 and 55 Watts in my various tests. Here's the quick overview:
800 x 600 @ 60 Hz, 49.4W; 75 Hz, 52.5W; 85 Hz, 54.8W
1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz, 51.6W
640 x 480 @ 60 Hz, 49.2W; 75 Hz, 50.6W; 85 Hz, 52W; 100 Hz, 54.2W

Interesting pattern: The higher the refresh rate and/or resolution, the greater the power draw - but not by a huge amount. There's only about 10% variance among the settings I tested.
This monitor also has one big plus over the Gateway Vivitron - the power button is up front, making it easier to turn it on and off. Thank goodness most displays moved away from rear-mounted power buttons years ago.

The third display I tested is an ancient Compaq 15" from the mid-to-late 90s. I picked up a few of these refurb at a very good price. They're not great monitors, but okay for setting up computers and testing. I was the same pattern in energy usage:
640 x 480 @ 60 Hz, 67W; 75 Hz, 71W
800 x 600 @ 60 Hz, 69W; 75 Hz, 74W
1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz, 73W
With Energy Saver putting the display to sleep, this drops to 14.5W - a lot more than the 17" Gateway Vivitron.

I next tested a 17" Micron display that my wife used to use with her Windows PC. No matter what resolution and refresh rate I chose, power draw was steady at between 118.5 and 119W. That surprised me after my other tests.
My stock CRT display for years has been a Samsumg 700DF, which supports up to 1280 x 1024 pixels. I've used it with my Titanium PowerBook and various G4 Power Macs, most recently with the dual 1 GHz Mirror Drive Door model. The display is crisp, but the refresh rate at 1280 x 1024 is a low 60 Hz. At tested resolutions and refresh rates, it consistently measured 120W.
By contrast, my 19" Dell flat panel display draws just 26W at its native 1280 x 1024 resolution. This is my primarly display - easy on the eyes, good resolution, and it sold for a great price when I bought it many years ago.

You can save quite a bit of energy by choosing the right display. The flat panel beats the CRTs hands down, the 15" Dell CRT draws about 30% less than the even older Compaq, and the Gateway Vivitron saves 20-25% over the Samsung and Micron monitors I tested.
End result: Until I can afford a new flat panel display, I'll keep the 19" Dell flat panel as my primary display on my Leopard machine (1.6 GHz dual G4 upgraded Digital Audio Power Mac), the Samsung on my Mirror Drive Door (the Gatewaw draws less power, but it's not crisp, wakes from sleep slowly, and has poorer color). On my server, I'm going to hook up the 15" Dell E550, which uses less energy than any of the CRT displays I've yet tested. I'll run it at 1024 x 768, which is lower than I prefer, but then I'm really only using this dual 500 MHz Power Mac G4 as a servery, so it's not a big deal.

Number Crunching

Electical rates range from 12¢ to 15¢ per killowatt-hour here in Michigan. By using a flat panel display instead of a 17" CRT, I save between 69 and 94 Watts - say an average of 85. That's roughly 2.04 kWH per day, 61 per month, for a saving of $7.30 to $9.20 a month, ignoring things like sleep mode and Energy Saver settings.
But you probably don't run your monitor 24/7. Let's say you have your monitor on 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and you're using it enough so sleep mode rarely kicks in. 22 workdays in a month times 0.68 kWH per day comes out to 14.96 kWH per month. Savings: $1.80 to $2.25 per month in this scenario - $22 to $27 a year.
Ballpark figure: If you're using a 17" CRT and replace it with a 19" to 22" flat panel display, you may reduce your electric bill $20 a year assuming a 40 hour work week - or $100 assuming the display is on 24/7. Use that display for 5 years, and you've saved between $100 and $500, probably enough to justify that $99 flat panel display Dell had on clearance last week or that $160 22" 1080 x 1920 display you discovered on dealmac.

Other benefits of going flat panel: No flicker, so it's easier on the eyes, and crisp pixels, where CRTs can become fuzzy over time. Less heat. And you'll have all those extra pixels to play with if you go widescreen. I find a 1080 x 1920 display very tempting, as I often have a dozen or more apps active at once, lots of overlapping windows, and the extra screen width would be a real blessing. (I've tried 1440 x 900 displays. After years at 1280 x 1024, I miss the extra height. Going to 1080 makes things even better.)
You'll need to do your own number crunching for your display, the new one you're looking at, monthly usage, and your local electrical rate. Just be sure to do your due diligence before you buy a new monitor - find out what reviewers and end users have to say about things like color accuracy, glare, build quality, etc.

http://lowendmacblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/display-power-consumption.html

10 energy-efficient computing tips

The following is a list of 10 energy-efficient computing tips from TechSoup and Climate Savers Computing to help guide your IT habits in 2010:

Use computer and monitor power management. Doing so can save nearly half a ton of CO2 and more than $60 a year in energy costs.

Don’t use a screen saver. Screen savers are not necessary on modern monitors, and studies show they actually consume more energy than allowing the monitor to dim when it’s not in use.

Buying a new computer and/or monitor? Make energy efficiency a priority while shopping for your PC and monitor. Buy EPEAT rated new computers, or if you buy from a retail store, look for the ENERGY STAR label or browse the Climate Savers Computing product catalog.

Buy refurbished computers if you mostly do basic things on computers like word processing, Internet browsing, e-mail, and downloading/uploading digital photos. Refurbished computers cost less than new computers and extend the life of IT equipment. The U.S. EPA Electronics Environmental Benefits Calculator finds that it is roughly 25 times more beneficial environmentally to reuse desktop computers than to recycle them at three to five years of age.

Turn down the brightness setting on your monitor. The brightest setting on a monitor consumes twice the power used by the dimmest setting.

Turn off peripherals such as printers, scanners and speakers when not in use. You can use smart power strips, which automatically turn off your accessories when you shut down your computer — or plug all your electronics into one power strip and turn the strip off when you are finished using your computer.

Use a laptop instead of a desktop. Laptops typically consume less than half the power that desktops use.

Use rechargeable batteries in IT devices like digital cameras. They are now low-cost, have long life, save you money and reduce toxics in landfills.

Use a power meter like Verdiem's free Edison application to find out how much energy your computer actually consumes and to calculate your actual savings.

Recycle your old electronics (anything with a plug), batteries, CFLs and ink cartridges. Reduce toxics in landfills. You can learn how to recycle electronics and find recycling centers here.

LCD VS CRT Monitor Comparison

LCD vs. CRT Monitor Comparison

Text and images (scans of census records) are crisper and sharper and the LCD monitor is easier on your eyes. Monitor's size: Traditional monitors are similar to a TV because both of them have the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube). That is the reason for its bigger size. It therefore occupies more space at the desk. It is also heavy.

However, LCD monitors have thin flat screen. Therefore occupies very less space and is lighter than the CRT monitor. LCD monitors can be fixed even on wall. Display Size: Even though the display size of a CRT monitor is calculated diagonally, the actual display size is smaller. For instance a 17" CRT monitor will actually have a display size of only 16" However, the display size of 17" LCD monitor will have 17" display size. Resolution: CRT monitors can show different resolutions. The resolution can be changed as required. LCD Monitors will have Native Resolution and therefore has a fixed resolution. The best resolution will be the native resolution for that LCD monitor. Viewing Direction: A CRT screen can be viewed from all directions. And from different distance. But LCD monitors cannot be viewed from all directions. LCD monitors can only be viewed straight. Therefore its viewing direction is limited. If viewed from other directions the colors will change and sometimes the vision will be unclear if not viewed straight. But in recent years the new LCD monitors have improved on this defect. Radiation Emission: The radiation emission in CRT monitors are higher. This will not be visible normally but it will affect eyesight and may cause head ache. Long term use of these monitors may even affect the eyes adversely. LCD monitors do not have this type of Radiation emission. Therefore LCD monitors are good for the eyes. Price: CRT monitors are priced very cheap. However they consume more power. LCD monitors are priced higher, but they consume less electricity. Though the electricity consumption is not very significant for personal use, it is very cost efficient in big organizations with many computers.

LCD Monitor
Text and images (scans of census records) are crisper and sharper and the LCD monitor is easier on your eyes. Dot pitch: This is the space between dots and is measured in fractions of a millimeter, e.g., .25mm. The smaller the number the better because the dots are tighter. Many manufacturers don%u2019t even list the dot pitch anymore and you probably won%u2019t be able to tell the difference between a .22 and .27 pitch anyway. So, if you like the monitor then don%u2019t worry about the dot pitch. Passive-matrix vs. active-matrix: Do not buy a passive-matrix monitor. I seriously doubt you%u2019ll even see one for sale, but%u2026just in case. Having said that, there are some new passive-matrix technologies that are worth buying. If the monitor isn't TFT (a type of active-matrix), look for CSTN or DSTN (the latest passive technologies). Brightness: How bright is the picture, expressed as cd/m (I have no idea what the units mean). Look for a brightness level of 200 cd/m or greater. Again, if the monitor specs don%u2019t list this value (not all do) be sure you can get your money back. If the lighting in your office (kitchen table) is subdued the brightness factor won%u2019t be as important as if you have a lot of sunlight streaming in. Don%u2019t pay extra for extra brightness unless you%u2019re worried about bright sunlight. Overall, the contrast ratio will have a bigger impact on picture quality. Resolution: CRT monitors can show different resolutions. The resolution can be changed as required. LCD Monitors will have Native Resolution and therefore has a fixed resolution. The best resolution will be the native resolution for that LCD monitor.

CRT
Speaking of easy on your eyes, there isn't any glare, and the flat screen means no distortion. By the way, even those expensive old-fashioned flat screen CRT monitors have some distortion. That just seems such a common sense thing to do. But I never took power consumption of monitor that seriously till one day I almost burned my hands while trying to move the big bulky 19 inch CRT monitor. The back side of the monitor was really hot.

Boy, how much power does this one consume? A quick look at the manual and turns out that my old big bulky 19” monitor was consuming a whopping 120 Watts. It’s like having a big bright bulb burning right in your face. That figure was big enough for me to switch off my monitor while not working. But still I wondered, what is the exact relation between what is being showed on screen and how much power is being consumed by the monitor.

A really good EBay deal on P4400 KillAWatt by P3 International convinced me that God wants me to buy a power meter and investigate this in detail. For anyone interested in “watching your power”, this is a handy thing for about $30.

I ventured onto this study. I checked monitor power consumption for CRT (Cathode Ray Tube aka big, bulky, heavy, TV shaped, ugly, dinosaurs), as well as LCD monitors (Liquid Crystal Display aka thin , flat, light, cool cuties) . Since 17” monitors are the most common, I chose Compaq S710 in my office (which is CRT 17”) and Hundai Imagequest L70N, which is LCD 17” monitor for study and comparison.

I checked following things

CRT monitor consumption vis-à-vis LCD monitor consumption

Brightness settings varied 0, 50, 100

Contrast settings varied 0, 50,100

Screen background changed black, gray, white

Soft power off (off using power settings of computer) and hard power off (off using switch) consumptions.

LCD and CRT Monitor Advantages and Disadvantages

LCD Monitor Advantages

· Uses Less Power. LCDs also produce less heat, which means less load on air conditioning.
· Takes up less space. LCD monitors are small, thin, and weigh less.
· Highly adjustable. Many LCD models can be rotated 90 degrees, allowing you to view websites in portrait mode. LCDs can also be mounted on the wall or on an arm.
· No flicker. LCDs don't have lines that need to be scanned like in CRTs. No flicker = a lot less eye strain.
· Less glare. Due to the material of the LCD screen, less light is reflected at the user. Same with "no flicker", this results in less eye strain.
· Brightness. LCD monitors are brighter than the traditional CRTs.
· Less distortion. Using a direct digital input from the graphics card produces cleaner 'output'. The monitor's perfect geometry means images aren't distorted, which is a boon for graphic designers and the like.
· Energy Efficient
· The scan lines and constant light barrage of a CRT tube tend to cause strain on heavy custom computer users.
· On the other hand lower intensity of LCD monitors produces less fatigue for computer users.

LCD Monitor Disadvantages

Blurry Images Outside Native Resolution
Motion Blur on Fast Moving Images
LCD’s another drawback was the lower response time when playing a video, though there has been several improvements, but there are some LCD monitors that still have lower response times. You must be aware of low response time factor of LCD monitors when purchasing it.
· Another problem of LCD monitors is color clarity. Unluckily, the PC industry has not taken some proper steps to guide and help buyers understand or compare monitors through providing listings, specifications etc.
· More expensive than CRTs. You pay for what you get; LCDs look good and are good for your eyes
· Dead pixels. When the electrical current to one or more pixels does not operate properly, one or more cells are permanently aligned, resulting in a dead pixel.
· Screen care and fragility. LCD monitors may be slim and sexy, but they're also more prone to damage and screen breakage.
· Native resolution. LCD monitors can only display information well at the resolution they were designed for. At any other resolution, image quality will suffer.
· Pixel response time. In videos and fast-paced video games, LCDs suffer from the ghosting effect.
· Viewing angles. Looking at an LCD monitor from an angle causes the image to look dimmer or even disappear completely.
· Colors. The color accuracy of an LCD monitor does not match that of a CRT monitor's.
· Now, the disadvantage was noticed the bigger is the native or fixed resolution of LCD screens. Only pixels in matrix can be displayed through an LCD monitor. It can display a lower resolution in one of two ways. Utilizing very less of the total pixels when display or through extrapolation. Extrapolation is a process through the monitor blends multiple pixels together to generate a single pixel.

CRT Monitors
Advantages:
· Color rendering is the primary advantage that CRT monitors held over LCD monitors. The depths of colors displayed and contrast ratios were much greater and better with CRT monitors than LCD monitors. While it is still true in only some cases, many series have been produced in LCD monitors such that the difference is not as great as once it was.Obviously the other benefit that CRT monitors provide over LCD screens is the ability to easily scale the various resolutions. This is dubbed to as multisync by the custom built PC industry. The screen may easily be adjusted downward to lower resolutions through adjusting the electron beam in the tube, while keeping the picture clarity intact.

• High Refresh Rates

• Color Clarity and Depth

• Multisync Capable

Disadvantages:
· The biggest disadvantages of CRT monitors are the weight and size of tubes. A same sized LCD monitor is more of 80% smaller in weight and size when compared to a CRT tube. The other bigger disadvantage is more power consumption. CRT monitor needs energy for electron beam means more consumption of power and more generation of heat than a LCD monitor.

• Very Heavy and Large

• Generate Excess Heat

• Use Large Amounts of Energy

CONCLUSION

Well, as per demand is concerned, lots of people would like to purchase LCD monitors rather than CRT monitors for their custom built PCs. There is no huge difference in the cost to consumer. Normally CRTs would only be seen sold with the rather cheap custom built PCs or by those who needs special imaging as graphics professionals.

Make Your Work Hours at the Computer More Comfortable

Dr Yip Treat Fracture & Dislocation In Elbow Sprain, Swollen And Pain

The Office Ergonomics presentation is a much watch for anyone who spends a fair amount of time infront of the desktop computer. Furthermore, in a survey of more than 2,000 current and former contact lens wearers, time spent in front of a computer (41 percent) was the activity most frequently mentioned as causing discomfort while they were wearing their lenses.

Staring at a computer monitor or the small screens on most devices can lead to a variety of ailments, including headaches, eyestrain, blurred vision, dry and irritated eyes, neck and/or backache and sensitivity to light.

"Eye stress and strain may be caused by a combination of individual visual problems, improper viewing habits and poor environmental conditions, such as glare, improper workstation set up, dirty screens, poor lighting and viewing angles," explains Dr. Anshel, who has helped companies and government agencies, including Mitsubishi, American Airlines, 3M and the Department of Labor address the high stress area of vision demands in relation to working with computer monitors.

"Uncorrected or under-corrected vision problems can be major contributing factors to computer related eye stress, affecting visual performance and comfort," cautions Dr. Anshel.

"The good news is that many potential eye and/or vision problems can be reduced or eliminated by appropriate adjustment and placement of computer monitors, lighting control, good preventive vision care habits and regular professional eye care." Dr. Anshel offers the following advice to help prevent or reduce the development of vision-related problems.

For additional tips, take the "Eye Q's and Views" interactive quiz at http://www.computerquiz.jnjvision.com.

-- REDUCE GLARE - Extraneous light, or glare, is the greatest source of eyestrain for computer users. No matter where your computer is relative to a window, adjustable shades, curtains or blinds should be used to effectively control light levels throughout the day. Avoid facing an un-shaded window since the difference in brightness between the screen and the area behind it may be cause eye stress and discomfort. Consider using an anti-glare screen to reduce reflections.

-- CHECK YOUR CONTACTS - When working at a computer, people spend a lot of time concentrating and blink less frequently - about three times less than normally, according to studies. "Computer work is particularly stressful for contact lens wearers," says Dr. Anshel. "Long non-blinking phases may cause the surface of contact lenses to dry out, which can lead to discomfort and a loss of visual clarity." He recommends talking to an eye care professional about ACUVUE® OASYS™ with HYDRACLEAR™ Plus. In a clinical study with 335 contact lens wearers, nine in 10 (89 percent) patients wearing ACUVUE® OASYS™ said that their eyes felt comfortable, even when watching TV or using a computer for a long time.

-- ADJUST YOUR MONITOR - Ideal monitor placement is dependent on several factors including an individual's physical make-up and visual capabilities, work tasks and other workstation design elements. For maximum eye comfort, Dr. Anshel recommends placing the center of the screen five to nine inches below your horizontal line of sight. "You should be looking just over the top of the monitor in your straight-ahead gaze," he says.

-- TAKE A BREAK - "Our eyes were not made to see at a close distance for hours at a time without a break," says Dr. Anshel. A preventive approach to reducing visual stress includes occasionally looking away from the screen of your computer, PDA or portable game player. Dr. Anshel recommends the 20/20/20 rule. "Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes. Focus your eyes on points at least 20 feet from your terminal. Keep your eyes moving while looking at objects at various distances," he says.
-- CONSULT YOUR EYE CARE PROFESSIONAL - The American Optometric Association highly suggests yearly eye exams to ensure ocular health. For individuals whose jobs may require extensive time in front of a monitor, Dr. Anshel suggests a comprehensive eye examination soon after beginning computer work and periodically thereafter. "If, at any time, you experience any vision problems or discomfort, talk to your eye care professional," he adds.

Tips To Avoiding the Fatigue Eyes while we working in front of Computer all day

Some of us would have the habit to work for long in front of a PC monitor, either to work or doing other things like playing games and browsing. As a result the effects of eye fatigue and dizziness head was unavoidable.
While many consider this fact not entirely true, but in reality it is still affecting the health of our eyes. The effect we sometimes a little difficult to focus the object of view, and so forth. This of course caused a radiation monitor for too long when we work.

Here are some tips to avoid eye fatigue in front of the computer:
1. Keep your distance from the monitor
Being too close to the monitor is a bit dangerous for our eyes. We should maintain visibility into the monitor.
2. Get rid of CRT, Switch to LCD
Monitor tube (CRT) does give a worse effect than the LCD, in addition to the energy required is also greater. Try replacing CRT monitors with LCD.
But the price of LCD monitors are more expensive than CRT. It's good we buy anti-radiation filters. This is the solution to reduce the pain from the eyes linger in front of the monitor, but with a cheap price.
3. Set the monitor settings
Some monitors are now many provide pre-set display modes, to allow users to change the display settings. Pre-set these settings to give different levels brightnes, to adjust the conditions of use of the monitor.
For example settings such as, 'text' or 'internet' will feel much cooler in the eyes, when we use for typing or browsing. Setting 'game' or 'movie' will look much brighter when used.
4. Use anti-radiation glasses
Although it costs a relatively more expensive, but it's good to have enough money, we buy anti-radiation glasses. In addition you can take them wherever we work, these glasses are not only useful when we work in front of the monitor, but also protect the eye from the car light, radiation, TV, and so forth.
In fact the anti-radiation coating on the glasses, very useful for our eyes. Because the layer automatically reduces the effects of pain in the eyes of radiation due to excessive light.
5. Rest my eyes for a moment, on a regular basis
The easiest way to avoid eye fatigue due to radiation monitors are mengistirahatkannya periodically. Try to rest eyes for about 5 minutes every hour. We can use it to take 5 minutes see the sights, washing face and so forth.
