How to customize Blog Appearance

In last article 'How to start blogging' we have created a basic blog. In this post we will see how to customize your blog. But before i recommend you to write any random post on your blog and go through following settings.

Now click on the drop down button in the middle of your dashboard and select 'Overview' so you will be redirected to the dashboard of your blog where you can see all the information, statics and settings of your blog.

Post - here you can write new post. Go to Posts > click on 'New Post' button on left top corner.

write any Random post for customizing. you can delete this post afterword

Give any Random title so we can set Font for the title while customizing And press 'Publish' Button
Now go to 'Pages' menu where you can add new pages to your blog (How many pages I can add to my blogger blog?)

Click on Don't Show button and select 'Top Tabs' from drop down menu.
Now go to your 'Template menu'

And select 'Customize' button. So the bloggers new customize interface will open.

Here you can change your Template style. As i suggested in last article Newbies must select 'Ethereall' template
You can select layout of your blog i.e. position of post area and sidebars for your page
And you can customize Color, Font and other attributes in the 'Advance' tab

I personally Like "Lobster" font for Blog title and Post title also
I also prefer "Play" font for body text which is neat and clear font.

► you must have Gmail (Google) account, Because Blogger is platform run by Google

- Add Blog Title you want to be displayed on your blog home page

- Add address of your blog, It must resemble to content of your blog so as to make it displayed in search results quickly

- Select Theme (Template for your blog) I recommend to use Ethereal for newbies
- And press button 'Create Blog'

After clicking 'Create blog' new screen shows you dashboard of your blogger account with Name to
your blog shortly created

-Here you can directly write new post (article) by clicking on the Pen button
-Go to dashboard by clicking on the drop down menu besides it
-And view your blog page by clicking on the 'view blog button

So there you are. we have created new blog.

How to add gadget above Blog header

Following steps enable you to add some extra gadgets above your blogs header. which look like this. So first of all, before doing any changes "you must download and backup your blogger template"

► Go to blogger dashboard ► Select Template

► Select Backup / restore Template ► Download and save template in safe space

1) Go to Template from blogger dashboard

2) Select Edit HTML

And locate the following code in your template-

just click in HTML area and press (Ctrl + F) to find paste above complete code or a snippet of code to find.

Now replace this code with the code given below-

here you can see that we have made two main changes

A) we set maxwidget greater than 1. Here you can add 2,3 or 4 as many as you like. As I only want to show 2 gadget above header I added maxwidgets=3

B) We have changed showaddelement=yes instead of no

3) Click on 'Preview' button at the bottom. So that you can check weather you have correctly changed the code. If there is any error then undo all changes by clicking on 'Clear edits' and foll above steps again.

4) If everything goes fine you can now save the template

5) Now go to your blogger dashboard and click on 'Layout' where you can now see the 2 'Add gadgets' above header
