How to increase download speeds of µTorrent

uTorrent was very slow for me until recently I applied a few tweaks. Here’s what I did.

Note: Some of the settings mentioned below are optimized for 256k connection. If you want to calculate the optimal settings for your connection, check at the end of this tutorial. But I suggest you to read the entire tutorial for guidance on other settings.

Some Of The Settings are given here -

First go to Options>Preferences>Network

1. Under ‘Port used for incomming connections’, enter any port number. It is best to use a port number above 10000. I use 45682.
2. Randomize port each time utorrent starts: UNCHECKED. I leave this unchecked because I have a router. If you do not have a router or a firewall, and want extra security,check this option.
3. Enable UPnP port mapping (Windows Xp or later only): UNCHECKED. I leave this unchecked because I have experienced it slowing down speeds. It is not needed if you manually port forward.
4. Add utorrent to Windows Firewall exceptions (Windows XP SP2 or later only): UNCHECKED (do this only if you have windows firewall disabled)
5. Global Maximum upload rate (kb/s): [0: unlimited]: 22 (for 256k connection)
6. Protocol Encryption: ENABLED. I would recommend everyone to enable this. This can help increase speeds with many ISPs.
7. Allow incoming Legacy Connections: CHECKED

Options>Preferences>Torrents

1. Global Maximum Number of Connections: 130 (for 256k connection)This number should not be set too low or the number of connections made to your torrents will be limited. Setting it too high may cause too much bandwidth to be used and can cause slowdowns.

2. Maximum Number of connected peers per torrent: 70 (for 256k connection)If you see that the peers connected to a specific torrent are exactly this number, or very close, increase this number to improve speeds.

3. Number of upload slots per torrent: 3 (for 256k connection)This depends on how much you want to upload to other users. Do not set too low or it may affect download speeds.

4. Use additional upload slots if upload speed <90%: CHECKED

5. Maximum number of active torrents: 2 (for 256k connection)

6. Maximum number of active downloads: 1 (for 256k connection)

7. Enable DHT Network: CHECKEDThis is recommended to be checked to improve speeds. More people will be available for sharing if this is checked.

8. Enable DHT for new torrents: CHECKED

9. Enable Peer Exchange: CHECKED

10. Enable scrapping: CHECKED

11. Pre-allocate all files: CHECKED

12. Append .!ut to incomplete files: UNCHECKED

Options>Preferences>Advanced

net.max_halfopen: 50

If you use Windows XP SP2, patch tcpip.sys with LvlLord’s Event ID 4226 Patcher to get better performance.

DO NOT CHANGE THIS OPTION unless you have Windows XP SP2 and have patched tcpip.sys.

You can also patch tcpip.sys with xp-Antispy

If you have a firewall

• Open up the options/preferences/settings for the firewall – usually your firewall will have an icon to click in the taskbar

• Look for the keywords “allow list” or “programs”

• Add the application you want to give access to the internet

• Make sure to save your settings when you are done

If you have a router

1. Go to start>run>type cmd, press enter>type ipconfig, press enter

2. Remember both your ip address and your default gateway

3. Type in your default gateway into your default browser, a password prompt may come up. The default username and password are admin for my router

4. Under ‘Applications’ fill out one line for each p2p client you use

5. You need to use your ip address, the correct port range and set either tcp or udp

6. You can find and change the ports in the actual p2p client’s settings, just make sure they are the same in the router

7. Most p2p apps need both tcp and udp checked, if you are not sure check your p2p client’s FAQ

8. Save your settings.

Check PortForward.com to forward ports for uTorrent.

Some of the settings I mentioned above are relative to my bandwidth.

How to calculate optimal settings for your connection.

In order to apply the following tips you need to know your maximum upload and download speeds. You can test your bandwidth over here.

Maximum upload speed

If you use your Maximum upload speed, there won’t be not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.

This is how I calculate my optimal upload speed…

upload speed * 80%

Maximum download speed

Setting your maximum download speed to unlimited will hurt your connection. So use this to calculate your optimal setting.

download speed * 90%

Maximum connected peers per torrent

upload speed * 1.3

Maximum upload slots

1 + (upload speed / 6)

Disable Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall hates P2P and so disable it and get yourself a decent firewall like Zone Alarm.

And last optimize your Internet connection with TCP Optimizer.

This post explains how to disable right click on blogger(blogspot) or any other webpage using a html(javascript) code.
It is so annoying if someone copies(thefts) your blog posts,articles,images and another kind of information owned by you saying that they are the original owners of the content.
But,I think 'disabling right click' is not the right solution for that.
Most people come to your site to read information and very small percentage of people come to your site to steal your work,images,etc.So,most people feel it insulting and I think it's very unprofessional thing to do

If you want to protect your images,my suggestion is to add a Watermark(logo) of your sitename,or your name on the images,pictures,etc.

Firefox Running Slow At Start Up, Here Is The Solution

I am a fan of Mozilla Firefox because of its features. I am using Firefox since my college days and never shifted to any other browser. But since I upgraded to Firefox 3 and then 3.5, It really slows down at the start up or specially when I type an URL on address bar. My Firefox was running slow and that was frustrating for me. But after digging into folders and files, I finally found the culprit for this problem.

Firefox History Data and Windows History are the reason behind my slow Firefox. When we type some URL on Firefox address bar, it tries to get it from browser history to suggest you related URLs. If you are a power Internet user and browse a huge number of sites on daily basis, You actually stores a huge data in browser history. That history will definitely slows down the really faster Firefox 3 andFirefox 3.5.

To resolve this problem, I deleted the cache of my Firefox browser but that doesn’t delete the full history file as it stores the history in a common file shared for bookmarks as well. When you delete the cache from Firefox, it deletes the files located in cache Folder. You can find the cache folder on your Vista Computer at location provided below:

C:\Users\Sanjeev\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\q67pag51.default\Cache

Note: Terms in bold may differ on your system.

By clearing cache, you didn’t delete the history of browser. To delete the history of browser, you will have to remove or rename a file named as places.sqlite located in location mentioned below. Before doing that, make sure you have closed all the instances of Firefox browser on your computer which means no running Firefox.

C:\Users\Sanjeev\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\q67pag51.default

Note: Both locations are different as you can see Local folder and Roaming folder under AppData.

Now rename the file places.sqlite to some other name say places.sqlite.bak to recognize it as backup. Thanks Raymond for sharing this tip to make Firefox really faster at start up. Now start your Firefox browser, and go to “Tools” menu.

Go to the Options under Tools and then click on “Privacy” tab. There you can see options related to Firefox history. Select the option as “Use Custom Setting For History”. Now change the filed value for “Remember my browsing history for at least” to 10 days from 90 days. Click on OK and close the window. Now restart your Firefox and you can feel the change in response time.

Now you can type any URL on Firefox address bar, Firefox will not be running slow in that case as well. If you want even more faster Firefox, You can delete the temporary files from your Windows by opening “Internet Options” from control panel. Now delete the browsing history including temporary files, cookies etc.

Now you will never complaint about firefox running slow on your computer because it will never store your browsing history for more than 10 days.

Hack XP Password

In case of user password boot the pc in safemode by pressing the F8 key and then selecting the Safe Mode option. You can now logon as an administrator and XP wont prompt for the password.

Incase of an administrator account try rebooting the pc in DOS. access C:\Windows\system32\config\mania . Rename mania as mania.mj

Now XP wont ask for password next time You Login.

OR

Go to the cmd prompt(Start -> Run -> cmd ->ok) .
Type net user *.
It will list all the users.
Again type net user "administrator" or the name of the administrator "name" *.
e.g.: net user ABCD *(where ABCD is the name).
It will ask for the password.
Type the password and there you are done.
Logging In As Administrator:
Hold the Ctrl-Alt key and press Del twice. This will bring up the normal login and you can log on as Administrator.

To unhide the Administrator account so it does show up:

Start Regedit (Start -> Run -> regedit ->ok)

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList

Unhide the Administrator key by giving it a value of 1

How to enter Deep Freeze configuration dialog without the password

� Ollydgb (http://www.ollydbg.de/)
to patch the program and run it.
Summary:

What we are going to do is to modify Deep Freeze to accept any password as a valid one. This version has a "improved" password validation routine, so we'll have to patch Deep Freeze service too.

Let's get to work:
1. We must get inside Deep Freeze code, but to do that we need debug privileges. This right is granted to the administrator by default, but Deep Freeze removes it to prevent someone from doing what we are going to do. To restore this privilege get inside Windows 'Control panel', access the 'Administrative Tools' and choose 'Local Security Policy" (or run SECPOL.MSC from a command line).
2. On the left tree expand 'Local Policies' and then 'User Rights Assignment'. On the right tree double click over 'Debug programs'.

Note:
The name of the policies can vary according to your system idiom.

3. Now add your account to the list and press OK to finish. The way to do this is a little different on Windows 2K and XP but it's very easy. If you don't know how to do it check the help.
4. To make the changes take effect you have to end the user session and login again. Usually you can end the session by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and choosing the right option.

Note:
Instead of ending your session you can use the command runas to run Ollydbg. ie: runas /user:MiNombre ollydbg.exe

5. Now run Ollydbg. On the menu 'File' select 'Attach'. A window will show up with a list of the running processes. Click on the process with the name 'DF5Serv' and then press Attach. If a warning message is raised dismiss it.

Note:
If you receive an error message after pressing Attach you probably made a mistake in the previous steps.

6. Right click over the code and a context menu will appear, select 'Go to' and then 'Expression' (or use the shortcut Ctrl+G).
7. In the text box enter 418973 and press OK. The program will jump to that line of code.
8. Here's the first password control. With the line selected right click over the code and then click on 'Assemble' (or press the space bar). A new window will show up.
9. In the window clean the text box and enter NOP. Make sure the box 'Fill with NOP's' is checked and then click the 'Assemble' button. Now close the window.
10. Press F9 to resume the code execution.
11. Now run another instance of Ollydbg. On the menu 'File' select 'Attach'. Click on the process with the name 'FrzState2k' and then press Attach. If a warning message is raised dismiss it.

Note:
Don't close the other instance of Ollydbg. If you do it you'll have to reboot the computer and start all over again.

12. Right click over the code and a context menu will appear, select 'Go to' and then 'Expression' (or use the shortcut Ctrl+G).
13. In the text box enter 403860 and press OK. The program will jump to that line of code.
14. This is the line from where the password verification procedure is called. Let's set a breakpoint here. To do that right click over the line and in the context menu select 'Breakpoint' and then 'Toggle' (or press F2).
15. Press F9 to resume the code execution.
16. Now activate the login program by double clicking over the icon while you keep the shift key pressed or by pressing CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+F6. The login window will appear asking for the password. Write anything in the password box and press ENTER. The breakpoing we set earlier in Ollydbg will activate and the login program will freeze.
17. On Ollydbg press F8 to step over the function call. On the registers window (to the right of the code) you'll see that EAX register has the value 00000000. That means the password is incorrect, let's change that. Double click over the value of EAX to open the modification window. In the 'Hexadecimal' text box write 1 and press OK.
18. Now press F9 to continue. If everything went right the Deep Freeze configuration dialog will show up.

1. Using Deep Unfreezer is quite easy. To check out the current state of Deep Freeze click on the 'Load' button. The position of the radio buttons will change to the current state.

2. To save the state click the 'Save' button.

3. Depending on the version of Deep Freeze, the program may need to read some information from the service file. Deep Unfreezer tries to find the file automatically, if it doesn't succeed the user must specify the file location manually.

4. For the latest versions of Deep Freeze (5.50 and above) for Windows 2K/XP the following rules apply:

Deep Unfreezer must be run under an account with debug privileges. By default Deep Freeze disables this privilege. Deep Unfreezer tries to enable this privilege automatically, if it fails the program will show the message 'WARNING: Not running from service'. To manually enable this privilege you have two options: follow the steps described on How to enter Deep Freeze configuration dialog without the password or using the Administrator account use the 'at' command to run the program with the System account. The 'at' command allows you to run programs at a given time, so if it's 12:00 and the file is in C:\ you can run Deep Unfreezer with the following command: at 12:01 /interactive "C:\DeepUnfreezer1.6.exe". When the clock changes to 12:01 the system will run Deep Unfreezer with debug privileges.

Deep Unfreezer can change the state as long as the service (DF5Serv.exe) had started and is running or if the service had never started at all. If the service started and for some reason it stopped, Deep Unfreezer wont be able to change the state. In the case the service had never been started Deep Unfreezer must be run from the System account and you will be able to change the state as long as you don't close Deep Unfreezer. Once the program is closed, the only way to change to state again is to reboot the computer. Deep Unfreezer tries to run from the System account automatically, if it fails the program will show the message 'WARNING: Not running from service'. To manually run Deep Unfreezer from the System account use the 'at' command described above.

Enable Right Click

Lots of web sites have disabled the right click function of the mouse button... Orkut Is Famous For This on The Albums... it's really, really annoying. This is done so that you don't steal (via right-click->save picture) their photos or images or any other goodies. Unfortunately, it disables ALL right-click functionality: copy, paste, open in new window.

It's easy to change, assuming your using IE:

Click "Tools"->"Internet Options"
Click the "Security" tab
Click "Custom Level"
Scroll down to the "Scripting" section
Set "Active Scripting" to "disable"
Click "Ok" a couple of times.

You'll probably want to turn this back to "enable" when your done... 'cause generally the javascript enhances a website.

Google Talk Invisible Tracker

Now a days most of them enters google talk in Invisible mode , so its difficult for us to track and chat with them , in the case of yahoo messenger we can find invisible persons easily...

Steps :

1. Set the chat as off the record with target user ( how? ).
This can be done only when the other user is online. ( need help? )

2. Now try sending chat to that user when he is invisible or offline.

3. If he is invisible, then he will receive chat.

4. But if he Is offline, then you will receive error “ did not receive your chat”.

Explanation:

Point 1: When a chat is set off the record, it will no longer get stored in your Gmail account.

Point 2: When you send a chat message to offline or invisible user, it gets delivered by default. At receiving end if user is online, a chat screen pops up showing him your message. If he is offline, your chat message will go to inbox as a mail.

Now if you put together above points then you will notice that, when you set chat off the record it can’t be delivered to inbox as mail, so it will be delivered only if user is online (no matter if he is invisible).

Now the only tricky part is finding a user online for once to set chat off the records. This doesn’t seem hard as invisible status is still limited to Gmail version of Google Talk and you may be in luck if your friend
uses Google Talk desktop clients/gadgets or third party IM client to chat.

So here I go thankfully there's the shutdown function in cmd mode

First of all you need to have access to a cmd prompt on the network for this to work.

If it's disabled you can obviously run everything from .bat files.

So first type in

This will give you all the names for all the computers on the network.

Then you want to find a target and write it down, so for example a name is //045-comproom1-05 then you will utilize that name to shutdown the computer.

Now next step is to do the following one

which will give you a gui interface and you'll be able to shutdown whichever computer you want with it, you can set a time, even throw in a funny comment like "owned" or somethin Smile.

Searching for Network Resources

Network browsing is likely the feature of My Network Places you will use most often. Through My Network Places, Windows can automatically search for shared network files, printers and other resources present on your local network.
For example, many people use My Network Places to confirm that each computer set up on their home network can "see" all the other computers.
To browse a list of available network resources, choose the "Entire Network" option in the left-hand pane of My Network Places. Then, in the right-hand pane, several options may appear for the kinds of networks available to browse. Choose the "Microsoft Windows Network" option to browse resources available locally.
Each local computer found in My Network Places will be listed under its Windows workgroup name. In home networking, all computers should be set to use the same Windows workgroup, otherwise they will not all be accessible through My Network Places.

Add a Network Place

The "Add a network place" option can be found on the left-hand size of the My Network Places control window. Clicking this option brings up a Windows "wizard" that guides you through the steps to define a network resource. Here you can specify the location of the resource by entering a Web link or a remote computer / folder name in the WindowsUNC format.
The Add a Network Place wizard allows you to give descriptive names to the resources you add. When finished with the wizard, an icon similar to a Windows shortcut icon appears in the resource list.
Along with the resources you manually add to My Network Places, Windows will sometimes automatically add other resources to the list. These are places on the LAN frequently access.

Removing Network Places

Removing a network resource from the My Network Places list works as in Windows Explorer . The icon representing any network resource can be deleted as if it were a local shortcut. During a delete operation, no action is taken on the resource itself.

View Network Connections

The My Network Places task pane contains an option to "View network connections." Choosing this option launches the Windows Network Connections window. This is technically a separate feature from My Network Places.

If you are a Bit Torrent downloader, you know what slow download speeds are like...frustrating and annoying, to say the least. Instead of getting your music or movie within a couple of hours, your software predicts it will take 2 to 4 days. Here is a way to solve the speed problems regarding the torrent downloads.

Now, while many of the speed factors involved are out of your control, there is at least one thing you can do at your receiving end to improve this speed. It is called "Port Forwarding", or "opening your specific TCP/UDP ports". This is how it works.

1) That blue or green network cable coming out of your computer/modem/router is actually a busy highway comprised of 65,536 tiny electronic lanes (yes, over sixty-five thousand little lanes for your electrons). Each lane is called a "port", and each port is designed to allow only specific types of information through. Many ports are assigned in a semi-standardized way. Here are some example port assignments:

HTML pages: port 80
FTP file transferring: port 21
World of Warcraft: port 3724
POP3 email: port 110
MSN Messenger: port 6901 and ports 6891-6900
Everquest: port 1024
Bit Torrents Client: port 6881-30000

2) Bit torrents, by default, first look for port 6881 to enter/exit your computer. If port 6881 is closed for whatever reason, torrents then go to port 6882, then 6883, and so on, until it eventually tries port 6999 before giving up.

3) Every ISP, and every home router, can optionally block any of these ports with the intention of preventing hackers and controlling the network.

4) If you tell your own personal router and firewall at home to open (aka "forward") port 6881 and port 6882, then your bit torrents will find their way into your computer that much faster. Sometimes up to 5x faster.

Yes, opening ports does increase the possibility of getting hacked by unwanted bad guys, but there are means to reduce that threat while still getting fast torrent download speeds.

The speed of download may increase significantly if you have a high speed internet if you use a slow internet connection speed like say 256kpbs to 2mbps the speed that changes the download is very little.

Forwarding port must be accompanied by a good firewall and anti-virus.

The Procedure for port forwarding is quite difficult but can be illustrated step by step and the procedure varies for every router/modem.

You can change it to different values for different behaviors.

- Enter 0 to display a close button on the active tab only.
- Enter 1 (default Value) to display close button to all tabs.
- Enter 2 to don’t display any close buttons.
- Enter 3 to display single close button at the end of the tab bar.

3. Now we know Mozilla Firefox have giving feature of multiple tabs , so sometimes it is very hard to handle multiple tabs with mouse, so you can also handle tabs by keyboard. Below are some tips to handle tabs by keyboard.

- Set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true
- Set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to a number like 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once.
- Now, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0?. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Google Chrome being The Fastest PC Browser but it has Some Disadvantages And Advantages Such as

ADVANTAGES

1. Speed - this is the only browser that is multi process. This means that for every new tab or plugin there is a new process created. This is not only fast, but for the first time that multi core cpu of yours will come in handy. Also javascript is compiled directly into machine code, which is run with greatest speed.

2. Stability - for the same as above, in case of plugin or tab crash - all other processes survive. This means you can only loose one tab. And you also get a process manager.

3. Lightweight - On long term Chrome uses less memory than other browsers. Especially memory usage is very clean, as once you close a tab, whole process is ended and all its memory is released. You also get process manager which shows you memory hogs, and where you can kill processes.

4. Incognito mode - You can browse privately and securely, without writing a single file or data into history, cookies, or cache. Ideal for "finding that surprise gift for wife" as google puts it, or as we all know - ideal for browsing pron late at night…

5. UI and ease of use - Chrome has completely renewed user interface with tabs put on top. Use is very simple, installation is a snap. Since there are just a few features and things you can configure, there is nothing to mess up.

DISADVANTAGES

1. First Beta- This is just a first public beta of browser, so do not expect it to properly render and show every and all web pages. Even Acid3 test completes just 71% of tests (which is weird as WebKit on which Chrome is based, has no problems completing 100%).

2. Missing features - Several functions as bookmark management, session management and password management are very basic. For a serious web user this is a big disadvantage, and hopefully Google or community will address those soon.

3. Missing extensions - Similar to above. If I inspect my Firefox addons page, I see a number of plugins. Now, since I know that every plugin is eating away computer's resources, I tend to use only completely vital plugins for me, and currently on my Firefox addons list are: RoboForm, Tab Mix Plus, Google Toolbar, SeoQuake and FlashBlock. Especially the first two are vital for me, as they offer transparent way to save/view/manage/export/import my user/pw and other field's data which I can also use in Firefox and IE… We checked with RoboForm and their answer was "RoboForm will not be able to work with Chrome". We hope this attitude to change soon.

4. Privacy concern - Google owns 60% of all web search queries worldwide. Google controls 70% of all web based advertising. Google most probably already owns your mailbox, and your online files, is tracking your website visitors… Do you want to hand out even more power to the Google? They will be able to profile you as much as they want…

5. UI - As much as I love new user interface, it is in fact pretty limited. As stability and speed targets power users, it is disappointing to see that tab management is pathetic, and does not even support multiple rows - and once you have 20+ tabs open things get crowded and you can not see anything in tab bar.
