My computer got “advanced virus remover” and won’t boot up!?
I’m using a library computer right now, because my Windows XP got the fake anti-virus software “advanced virus remover.” I knew it was a virus so I downloaded Malwarebytes or whatever it’s called, and when I ran it, it scanned and showed that the “advanced virus remover” was a virus, and told me to restart my computer. So I did but then my computer didn’t start up after that! I could log on but then there was no start bar at the bottom of the screen and no icons.

But I do have a Windows XP CD. Will “chkdsk /r” delete the virus? Also the virus won’t spread to the Windows XP CD right? That would suck. Or if “chkdsk /r” doesn’t work, will Windows Repair work? Please! I need answers!
I said it won’t start up, so malwarebytes won’t work

Best answer:

Answer by Brokencheese
i dont tin you can delete the virus like that, and dont worry the cd is a form of rom (read only memory)so it cant be tamperd with by aANYTHING so if i were yo uid just re install windows ( be aware you will loose all your files

My husbands place of employment is closing their doors, to all but about 28 workers. Anyways, he used to repair the computers that ran their machinery. They told him they would “hire” him under a 1099 tax code if the machines went down, but my fear is this will mess with his unemployment (Vermont is WAY too unreliable on their benefits). Since he was employed there, and not an independent contractor, and is not planning on becoming one, does he have to take any possible “job” that they would call him on?
Let me say he was employed by them, but is now being terminated. They want to be able to call him in and then use his skills under a 1099.

This (at least seems to me, will screw with unemployment) AND then we’ll have the heartache and hassle on next years tax return.

So, can he STILL turn down the work AND still get unemployment?
OK, I guess my question still isn’t as clear as I need to make it. Hubby was employed by company A as a computer tech. Company is letting employees all go except saw mill workers. When saw mill (controlled by computers fails), they want to bring him back under a 1099. Since he no longer works for them, but hasn’t set up a business (even though he’s qualified to do the work) can he refuse WITHOUT being disqualified for unemployment?

Best answer:

Answer by MisterZero
As an independent contractor he will be “self-employed” and can accept or reject whatever jobs he wants…and, yes, his earnings will not be subject to unemployment compensation payments by those who are paying him.

As an employee he would pretty much have to accept any work they directed him to do in order to retain his employment status.

Currently I am a fulltime college student at Kaplan University Studying for Information technology. I am enrolled in the 4yr Bachelor program I have a 2.5 years left have earned 30 college hours out of 180. I do have Fincial aid and student loans to pay my tuition. By the time I graduate I will have accumalated around ,000.00 worth of debt in Student loans. I’m 28 will be 31 by the time I graduate. I am currently opening my own Computer repair Bussiness and that was the whole purpose of me going to school is so that I could better myslef and get out of my dangerous job of being a REPO MAN.
I been sent infomation by a place called Professional Career Development Institute (PCDI). They have a program called “PC service and Repair” Which would go very good for my bussiness. they also offer there course online just like Kaplan. PCDI is suppose to be accreditted and when I graduate “Aprox 1 year” I will get a Diploma. The entire Program cost lest than one semester at KU
So I want to know if I should attend here and save myself from getting in to debt or if I would be wasting my time.

PCDI is backed by ASHWORTH University.

Best answer:

Answer by Brandon W
First, I do know about them. I don’t think they are any good, personally. I enrolled in their Security program, and stopped after the frist class. They were disorganized and seemed to only be in it for the $$$ and not for the students.

Ashworth University is not accredited by the US Department of Education to grant any type of degree, so investing in any programs through them will be a waste of money.

When you graduate from Kaplan, you will have an actual college degree, which will carry you far in the technology field. Getting a diploma will not help you much at all. Of course, a diploma is better than nothiner, but I would prefer a college degree any time.

As far as student loans go, it’s not a big deal to have ,000 when you graduate. I will have around -60,000 in loans when I graduate, but I will be a Registered Nurse, so that amount won’t be a hardship for me to pay back over time. K for a tech degree is not a bad thing.

I used to be a computer repair technician for a company called Millennium Technologies in Merrillville Indiana. I have my own cell, and i was also given a cell by the owner to use for calling clients, and for him to get ahold of me. I always turned the business cell off at 5PM, just as i clocked out. If he called my personal cell after hours i would always send it to voicemail, and then i would delete the VM without answering it. Sometimes he would have customers call me on my personal cell, and once i knew that it was a customer i would tell them im off the clock and to call the BUSINESS phone the next day. This irritated my boss to no end. he wanted to ask questions about my work at a place or find out what happened somewhere. but if im not being paid then i dont discuss work. not my job to care about the company after hours. what do you guys think? what is your attitude about being off the clock?
I really dont agree with what you buys were saying. if i am only being paid to work between 9 and 5, why should i do anything that benefits the company during hours i am not being paid? He is not paying me off the clock and certainly isnt paying for my cell minutes when he calls me on my personal phone!

Answer by BeenAroundTheBlock
I think you’re probably not destined to go very far, in terms of advancement, salary, etc. Sounds like you don’t really care about that, however.
