The Elements of Statistical Learning: Data Mining, Inference, and Prediction, Second Edition (Springer Series in Statistics), PDF Download Ebook. Trevor Hastie, Robert Tibshirani and Jerome Friedman described the important ideas in these areas in a common conceptual framework.

During the past decade there has been an explosion in computation and information technology. With it have come vast amounts of data in a variety of fields such as medicine, biology, finance, and marketing. The challenge of understanding these data has led to the development of new tools in the field of statistics, and spawned new areas such as data mining, machine learning, and bioinformatics.

Many of these tools have common underpinnings but are often expressed with different terminology. While the approach is statistical, the emphasis is on concepts rather than mathematics. Many examples are given, with a liberal use of color graphics. It is a valuable resource for statisticians and anyone interested in data mining in science or industry. The book's coverage is broad, from supervised learning (prediction) to unsupervised learning.

The many topics include neural networks, support vector machines, classification trees and boosting the first comprehensive treatment of this topic in any book. This major new edition features many topics not covered in the original, including graphical models, random forests, ensemble methods, least angle regression and path algorithms for the lasso, non-negative matrix factorization, and spectral clustering. Great book!
How Google Tests Software PDF Download Ebook. James A. Whittaker, Jason Arbon and Jeff Carollo teach how to amazingly scalable techniques for analyzing risk and planning tests, thinking like real users, implementing exploratory, black box, white box, and acceptance testing, getting usable feedback, tracking issues, choosing and creating tools, testing, interfaces, classes, modules, libraries, binaries, services, and infrastructure, reviewing code and refactoring, using test hooks, pre-submit scripts, queues, continuous builds, and more.

As the different roles are explained in the respective chapters, there is also quite a bit of detail on how the testing is done at Google. The most interesting part in the chapter on the SET role is the part about the infrastructure. There is extensive support for running tests automatically. There is common infrastructure for compilation, execution, analysis, storage and results reporting of tests. Tests are categorized as small, medium, large or enormous. Small tests are basically unit tests where everything external is mocked out, and they are expected to execute in less than 100 ms.

Medium tests involve external subsystems, and can use database access, but generally run on one machine (use no network services), and are expected to run in under a second. Large and enormous tests run a complete application, including all external systems needed. A good way to summarize them is that small tests lead to code quality, and medium, large and enormous tests lead to product quality. The common test execution environment for running the tests has been developed over time, and has several nice features.

With these techniques, you can transform testing from a bottleneck into an accelerator and make your whole organization more productive. System has been developed by Google for many years, and has become quite capable and tailored to their way of working. Great book!

Agile Estimating and Planning PDF Download Ebook. Mike Cohn was defining, driving, and delivering great software that matters to the business. Mike's clarity, insight, and experience leap out through every page of this book, offering an approach that is relevant and immediately useful to all members of an Agile project.

Mike Cohn's breakthrough book gives us not only the philosophy, but also the guidelines and a proven set of tools that we need to succeed in planning, estimating, and scheduling projects with a high uncertainty factor. At the same time, the author never loses sight of the need to deliver business value to the customer each step of the way.

This book is organized in seven parts and twenty-three chapters. Each chapter ends with a summary of key points and with a set of discussion questions. There are describing why planning is important, the problems we often encounter, and the goals of an agile approach, introduces a main tenet of estimating, that estimates of size and duration should be kept separate, advice on how a project team can make sure they are building the best possible product, looking at the steps involved in scheduling a relatively simple, single team project, plan an iteration, select an appropriate iteration length for the project, estimate a team's initial rate of progress, how to schedule a project with either a high amount of uncertainty or a greater implication to being wrong about the schedule. This part concludes with which describes the additional steps necessary in estimating and planning a project being worked on by multiple teams.

The book is clear, well organized, and a pleasant and valuable read. It goes into all the necessary detail, and at the same time keeps the reader's burden low. We can dig in as deeply as we need to, without too much detail before we need it. The book really brings together everything we have learned about Agile estimation and planning over the past decade. It will serve its readers well.

Implementing Domain-Driven Design, PDF Download Ebook. Vaughn Vernon presents practical DDD techniques through examples from familiar domains. It also presents a top-down approach to understanding domain-driven design in a way that fluently connects strategic patterns to fundamental tactical programming tools. Vaughn Vernon couples guided approaches to implementation with modern architectures, highlighting the importance and value of focusing on the business domain while balancing technical considerations

Each principle is backed up by realistic Java examples all applicable to developers and all content is tied together by a single case study: the delivery of a large scale Scrum-based SaaS system for a multitenant environment.

For software developers of all experience levels looking to improve their results, and design and implement domain-driven enterprise applications consistently with the best current state of professional practice, Implementing Domain-Driven Design will impart a treasure trove of knowledge hard won within the DDD and enterprise application architecture communities over the last couple decades.

The author takes you far beyond domain-driven design approaches that embrace DDD solely as a technical toolset, and shows you how to fully leverage DDD’s strategic design patterns using Bounded Context, Context Maps, and the Ubiquitous Language. Using these techniques and examples, you can reduce time to market and improve quality, as you build software that is more flexible, more scalable, and more tightly aligned to business goals.
Information Technology Project Management, Revised with Premium Online Content Printed Access Card, 6th Edition PDF Download Ebook. Kathy Schwalbe offers the behind the scene aspect of technology.

Information is traveling faster and being shared by more individuals than ever before. Although project management has been an established field for many years, managing information technology requires ideas and information that go beyond standard project management.

By weaving together theory and practice, this text presents an understandable, integrated view of the many concepts skills, tools, and techniques involved in project management. Because the project management field and the technology industry change rapidly, you cannot assume that what worked even five years ago is still the best approach today.

This text provides up to date information on how good project management and effective use of software can help you manage projects, especially information technology projects. Information Technology Project Management, Revised Sixth Edition, is still the only textbook to apply all nine project management knowledge areas, as project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communications, risk, and procurement management and all five process groups, like initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing to information technology projects. This book is highly recommended for you personally.

Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship, PDF Download Ebook. Robert C. Martin presents a revolutionary paradigm with Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship. Martin has teamed up with his colleagues from Object Mentor to distill their best agile practice of cleaning code on the fly into a book that will instill within you the values of a software craftsman and make you a better programmer but only if you work at it.

Clean Code is divided into three parts. The first describes the principles, patterns, and practices of writing clean code. The second part consists of several case studies of increasing complexity. Each case study is an exercise in cleaning up code of transforming a code base that has some problems into one that is sound and efficient. The third part is the payoff a single chapter containing a list of heuristics and smells gathered while creating the case studies. The result is a knowledge base that describes the way we think when we write, read, and clean code.

Learning to write clean code is hard work. It requires more than just the knowledge of principles and patterns. You must sweat over it. You must practice it yourself, and watch yourself fail. You must watch others practice it and fail. You must see them stumble and retrace their steps. You must see them agonize over decisions and see the price they pay for making those decisions the wrong way.

It consists of several case studies of ever increasing complexity. Each case study is an exercise in cleaning up some code of transforming code that has some problems into code that has fewer problems. The detail in this section is intense. You will have to flip back and forth between the narrative and the code listings. Great book!

System Dynamics: Modeling and Simulation of Mechatronic Systems, PDF Download Ebook . Dean C. Karnopp, Donald L. Margolis and Ronald C. Rosenberg presenting a revision of the bestselling system dynamics book using the bond graph approach. System Dynamics is a cornerstone resource for engineers faced with the evermore-complex job of designing mechatronic systems involving any number of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, and magnetic subsystems.

The book offers the latest coverage on one of the most important design tools today-bond graph modeling-the powerful, unified graphic modeling language. The first six chapters have been improved to make the material much more understandable for those unfamiliar with physical system modeling.

The presentation starts with the basic elements and leads to sophisticated mathematical models suitable for automated computer simulation. The new edition incorporates the authors' vast experience in teaching the topics to undergraduate and graduate students over many years and features expanded coverage of topics.

This book continues to stress all the essentials-from basic hand formulation of simple bond graph models to the automatic simulation of complex mechatronic systems. It offers updated examples of multi-energy domain systems as well as discussions of state of the art simulation software for use with bond graph models, presentations of a multiport modeling philosophy based on power and energy interactions, methods for understanding system characteristics and predicting system behaviors and the use of graphical depictions of dynamic systems that can be translated automatically into complex mathematical models for computer simulation

Signals and Systems (The Oxford Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering) 3rd Edition, PDF Download Ebook. Chi-Tsong Chen prepares students for real-world engineering applications. The text introduces basic concepts in signals and systems and their associated mathematical and computational tools.

The book also stresses the most important concepts in signal analysis, frequency spectra, system analysis, stability and frequency responses and uses them throughout, including the study of seismometers and accelerometers. It introduces every term carefully and develops every topic logically. It distinguishes amplitudes and magnitudes, as well as lumped and distributed systems.

This book presents engineering concepts as early as possible and discusses transform theory only as needed. Also, the text employs transfer functions and state-space equations only in the contexts where they are most efficient. Transfer functions are used exclusively in qualitative analysis and design, and state-space equations are used exclusively in computer computation and op amp circuit implementation.

Thus, the students' time is focused on learning only what can be immediately used. Including an author commentary on the best way to approach the text, the 3rd edition is ideal for sophomore- and junior-level undergraduate courses in systems and signals. It assumes a background in general physics (including simple circuit analysis), simple matrix operations, and basic calculus. It is concise, focused, and practical, highly recommended!
