Today I want to write about some cool plugins that can save you a LOT of time when you have to move your blog to another server/domain …

This will happen to me very soon. We got a third dedicated server and I have to move everything from one machine to the new machine… hell, no… takes ages to do manually.

Now, imagine you have to do everything manually

Exporting database, copying the whole wordpress installation, exporting posts, … AGES it would take, would Yoda say.

Two plugins could help me with the tasks… Number one is:

WP-Twin

This nice plugin is really cool. You need to upload the wptwin.php to your existing blog (into the main folder of the blog), then you just open the file in your browser and you can clone your blog.

Download now the file that got created.

Install a NEW blog on your NEW domain/server.

Upload wptwindeploy.php and your BACKUP file to your NEW server/domain (again, into the main WP folder) and open wptwindeploy.php in your browser.

Identify yourself and then… click deploy.

When the script is finished you have EXACTLY the same blog as before (on your old domain/server).

Post, Graphics, everything got “cloned”

Numer two of the plugins to the painful moving job is:

WP Backup Buddy

This plugin does everything… it copies everything (!!) Database, plugins, settings, widgets, posts, scripts, …

WP Backup Buddy supports multi site (beta), is able to backup to Amazon S3 or Dropbox, and with this nice plugin you do not need to install WordPress on the destination server before importing.

It takes care of all the path changes, you can download ServerBuddy (it’s FREE) to test your server environments for compatibility and it even works with Windows Server.

Now, these two will save me a lot of time (else I would have to do everything while Christmas).

For Security Reasons

You can do a backup every day, if you blog get’s hacked or something else happens and you can not access it anymore… you are SAFE now. The ultimate solution!

Sorry that I did not post a looong time (who cares anyway?) but I have so much projects to handle that I don’t find any time (except now).

So, what is this post about?

About those people calling themself “webdesigner”…

…that are using WYSIWYG editors (nothing against them but do NOT export as table layout)

…that are slicing a “design” in PS (and using export possibility, again table layout)

…that do not even know how to validate their “code”

…that do not know how to fix the simplest errors

…that do not know what a DOCTYPE is (look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctype)

…that do not listen to people that do have a lot more experience

…that ignore your tipps totally and even think they are right

…that are thinking Dreamweaver is “the standard program in webdesign/coding”

…that are thinking simple html/css templates are cool and unique

…that are havin’ a “webdesigner firm” and do not even fix their errors on their website (argh)…

There is much more I could list here. It makes me sick.

What are your thoughts?

I would like to know what is YOUR definition of “webdesign”.

I am not really able to define “webdesign”.

Today I just want to show you how to modify the WordPress plugin Tweet Old Post.

I wanted to add my new URL shortening service 1click.at to this nice plugin.

Well, it is really very easy to do. Here is what files need to be modified:

1. top-admin.php

2. top-core.php

You can find both files in your wp-content/plugins/tweet-old-post folder.

Open top-admin.php with your favourite editor (in my case Notepad++).

Search for the line (should be line 204)

Now add (directly after the line, if you want)

Open the file top-core.php and search for (should be line 153)

Now you can see in the Tweet Old Post admin panel that there is a new URL shortening service called 1click.

Yeah, I am sure that my “code” can be optimized. Yes, I did not “outsource” the CSS or the Javascript. But I will do it soon.

Maybe you will ask yourself “Why another URL shortener?”

This URL shortener will be used for a project I am working on. What I did for now is just “experimental”.

The following jQuery scripts got added.

• Google-Style Element Fading (by David Walsh)
• Link-Control (by John McMullen, not used now)
• jQuery Easing 1.3 (by George McGinley Smith)

And YOURLS is responsible for the URL shortening.
