Samsung has quietly listed its Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet on the company's India e-store at Rs. 36,430. However, the tablet is currently not in stock and the page provides a 'Notify Me' option for consumers.Notably, the tablet was announced alongside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 last year.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 features a 10.1-inch TFT display as the name suggests with WXGA (1280x768 pixel) resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The tablet runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 tablet was launched in three variants - Wi-Fi only, 3G and LTE. The model listed on the store is the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 says "Wi-Fi only" but also mentions the 3G bands, so it's not clear which variant this is.The tablet is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Clover Trail+ (Z2560) processor, alongside 1GB of RAM. It sports a 3-megapixel rear camera and also comes with 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. There is 16GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 64GB via microSD card.
The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 packs a 6800mAh battery, which the official listed claims can deliver up to 8 hours of usage.
Earlier, Samsung's Galaxy Tab3 Neo tablet reached Indian shores, and was available via company's online store for Rs. 16,750.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab3 Neo tablet runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box with Samsung TouchWiz UI on top. It features a 7-inch WSVGA (1024x600 pixels) display.
The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor alongside 1GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB inbuilt storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB with the help of microSD card. The Galaxy Tab3 Neo sports a 2-megapixel rear camera, while there is no front-facing camera.

A House Divided Review

Early in the second episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 2, Clementine engages in a conversation with a new character. It’s a difficult conversation, with each choice you make carrying a weight that will likely not be revealed for a while yet, but there is a definite sinister tone to the dialogue. And then, with only a few carefully chosen words, everything you took for granted in the previous episode is brought into question, and the story goes in an unexpected new direction.

And all from one, brief conversation.

Telltale once again manages to craft a story that is never quite what you think it is going to be. The game leaves an obvious set of connections for you to make, then shows you the logic in your thinking. Are the people you are with really your friends, or has circumstance tricked you into thinking that? Are you fooling yourself, or are they fooling you? Will you stand by them? Should you stand by them?

The ability to raise subtle questions like these is the work of master storytellers, and Telltale is at the top of its game in A House Divided. Your choices are packed with potential consequences, many of which won’t fully play out until future episodes, especially the choices that result in the ominous note that the character “will remember” notification

However, some decisions are so immediately impactful that you may not want to make a decision at all. It isn’t about choosing the right or wrong answer, it’s about choosing sides. No matter what, there will be fallout.

The game also never lets you forget who it is that will pay the price for those choices. In Season One, protagonist Lee Everett was a grown man. Conflict was unfortunate, but inevitable and as a grown man, Lee could handle the consequences. In Season Two, the protagonist is Clem, and 11-year old girl. It is massively unfair that she is constantly in a situation where her actions, regardless of her intentions, can end up getting people killed or causing conflict between others. But that’s the world of Walking Dead, and part of why Season Two is shaping up to be just as good, if not better than its predecessor. Episode Two hammers that point home, again and again forcing Clem to make impossible choices and then reminding us that she is a child.

In the first episode, the story was somewhat limited by the setup it needed to get out of the way. Players needed to reorient themselves to Clem as the primary character, an entire cast of new characters needed to be introduced, and both their situation and Clem’s involvement in it needed to be justified. It was a lot to get through, and the episodic treatment of the story turned out to be a slight disadvantage. Episode Two doesn’t have that limitation now that all the groundwork is laid, and it is one of the strongest single chunks of story in the entire series. There is no fat on it, no wasted moments of exploration or unnecessary dialogue. Every option is potentially impactful, and every move you make pushes the story further.

There is a bit more of a hands-off approach to this episode than most. You’re making as many choices as ever, maybe even more, but the amount of time you actually spend wandering around and solving puzzles as Clem is among the lowest in the series. That’s an inconsequential sacrifice though, since there is a weight to the choices you make.

This episode is also a visual improvement over the previous one, partly because the story takes place over a larger and more varied set of environments than the cabin and woods that were the focus last time. There is more to see, with impressive sights we haven’t seen before in the series, and a strong use of color that goes beyond the uniform, Earthy look of the previous episode.

Conclusion

The season can continue to churn out episodes as strong as this one, The Walking Dead Season 2 is on the way to matching the excellence of Season One. And that is saying something.

Once a club for favored developers, Google's Glass Explorer Program will open its doors to the general public on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 6 a.m. PDT.

Adults in the US are eligible to join, at a cost of $1,500 plus tax -- apropos given that April 15th is the deadline to file tax returns in the US. That sum will buy the latest version of Google Glass, the company's somewhat coveted and surprisingly controversial computerized eyewear. This is not the general consumer release, which presumably is still planned for later this year.

"Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new perspective that is making Glass better," Google said via a Google+ post. "But every day we get requests from those of you who haven’t found a way into the program yet, and we want your feedback too. So in typical Explorer Program fashion, we’re trying something new."

Previously Google allowed developers at Google I/O to join its program and asked others seeking Glass to demonstrate their worthiness by tweeting some high-minded or laudable planned use for the device in conjunction with the #ifihadglass hashtag.

Now the barrier to entry will be lowered, but only temporarily: Google says the number of spots in its program is limited.

So too is interest in using Glass. A Forrester report last year said that only 12% of US online consumers would be interested in computerized eyeglasses like Glass. As a point of comparison, 28% said they'd be interested in wearing a computerized watch.

Google recently unveiled a version of Android suited for just such a watch. Its Android hardware partners are expected to release Android Wear watches later this year. Apple is also said to be working on a computerized watch.

Rather than trying to convincing consumers to embrace something few appear to want, Google has started promoting Glass as a tool for enterprise use. The company has launched an initiative called Glass At Work to woo developers working on projects that could bring Glass to the workplace.

Though Glass is still being offered only to individuals in the US, researchers in the UK obtained several Glass headsets and used them to test how Glass could be useful to Parkinson's patients. Other pilot programs at medical institutions, such as the one at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, suggest that Glass has a future in healthcare and other industries where professionals could benefit from technology that doesn't tax the hands.

To win over the general public, Google needs to find a way to convince people that its $1,500 eyewear isn't a symbol of elitist excess, of disregard for privacy, or of social cluelessness.

What it means

Microsoft has announced that, effective April 8, 2014, it will no longer support Windows XP.

But what, exactly, does that mean?

First of all, it means if you have it and use it, it will still workBut for how long, who knows? That’s because Windows will no longer provide security updates and hackers, who are surely lying in wait out there in cyberspace, will be able to exploit the 12-year-old operating system with no worries of Microsoft every coming along behind them and shutting the doors they blast in to the rickety old application.

That’s why Microsoft is crying wolf.

“It is very important that customers and partners migrate to a modern operating system…” says Microsoft, urging, in fact, that people migrate to Windows 8.1, the current and best operating system the company is selling.

They go on:

“Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows XP. Security updates patch vulnerabilities that may be exploited by malware and help keep users and their data safer. PCs running Windows XP after April 8, 2014, should not be considered to be protected, and it is important that you migrate to a current supported operating system – such as Windows 8.1 – so you can receive regular security updates to protect their computer from malicious attacks.”

All that is well and good. If you have a computer made over the last half dozen years or so. But older than that, Microsoft isn’t making any promises that Windows 8.1 – if you do indeed upgrade – will work. “Very few older computers will be able to run Windows 8.1,” it concedes.

So if that is the way you’d like to go, first download and run the Windows Upgrade Assistant to check if your PC meets the system requirements for Windows 8.1 and then follow the steps in the tutorial to upgrade if your PC is able.

If the upgrade assistant says Windows 8.1 will not work on your old computer, you have two options: 1) Keep running XP and hope you don’t get infected by a new virus. 2) But a new computer.

Should you choose to keep running under XP, realize that end-of-support will not cause any problems on your old XP installations in any way. No features will be disabled, no upgrades will be forced, and even technical support will still be relatively easy to come across via the web and the gazillion articles and tip sheets on how to troubleshoot and fix XP issues.

All end-of-support means is, Microsoft is no longer supporting those who are using XP with patches, security updates or technical support from Microsoft itself.

So there’s no need to panic.

My recommendation: Upgrade to Windows 8.1 and/or a new computer if necessary.

But I realize not everyone can afford that. If you decide you’re sticking with XP, make sure you have strong antivirus software on your machine and, just keep on using it until it freezes, crashes or behaves in a way that makes you upgrade or get a new computer..

The Samsung Gear Fit fitness band, alongside the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, is now officially available online in India, ahead of the wearable devices' announced April 11 release date.

The Samsung Gear Fit and Gear 2 Neo are listed carrying an identical price tag of Rs. 15,450, lower than the official launch price of Rs. 15,900. The Samsung Gear 2, which is the successor to the company's first smartwatch, has been listed at Rs. 21,550, thought it was also launched at a higher price of Rs. 21,900.

As of now, there is no word on the lower price tag of the three Samsung wearables, but we can expect this to be a limited period offer for the first few consumers. The official Samsung store notes that the Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be delivered in three to five business days.

Notably, Samsung launched the Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, alongside the flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 in late March for the Indian market.

Samsung globally showcased the new wearable devices at the Samsung unPacked 5 event during MWC 2014, where it also showcased the Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

Samsung's Gear Fit is the "world's first" wearable device with a curved Super AMOLED touch display and is a fitness band.

The Samsung Gear Fit is smaller and lighter than the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, and is focused on health. It features a 1.84-inch Super AMOLED display with a 432 x 128 pixel resolution. The Gear Fit comes with a pedometer, heart rate monitor, and a sleep monitor. Other built-in functions include a fitness app, exercise mode, stopwatch, timer, schedule, smart relay, media controller. Additionally, the users will get active notification alerts for SMS, calls, e-mail and apps on the Gear Fit.

A 210mAh battery powers the Samsung Gear Fit, which gives a typical usage of 3 to 4 days and up to 5 days with low usage. The device measures in at 23.4 x 57.4 x 11.95 mm (body only) and weighs 27 grams.

The Samsung Gear 2 on the other hand, features a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display, a 2-megapixel autofocus camera and sports a metal body. The Gear 2 comes is dust and water resistant (IP67 certified). Other features include accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, IrLED and Bluetooth 4.0 LE.

The new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will have a heart rate sensor, a pedometer and various tools to measure exercise, sleep and stress levels. Notably, the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are based on Tizen OS, instead of Android.

The Samsung Gear 2 Neo, much like Gear 2 features a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display. Although does not come with a camera. It is dust and water resistant (IP67 certified) and includes accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor and various tools to measure exercise, sleep and stress levels. Galantamine, a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, may delay the need for full time care.

Alzheimer’s disease is very costly because patients nearly always need to be cared for round the clock, either at home – with help – or in a nursing home. We already know that galantamine, an Alzheimer’s drug recently approved in the US and in Europe, can improve learning, memory and the ability to carry out everyday tasks.

Now it seems that the new medication may also put off the time when the patient will become dependent on others.

Researchers in Massachusetts, US, have used a health economics model to compare the impact of galantamine, compared to no treatment, on the need for full time care over a ten year period. They assumed the drug would be taken until the patient became totally dependent. Their study shows that treating four patients with the drug avoids one full year of full time care – with all the attendant cost savings.

What’s more, each individual will spend less time – around 14 per cent less – needing full time care, which will have a very positive impact on their overall quality of life. Drugs are expensive, of course, but galantamine would only account for about six per cent of the total care cost for an Alzheimer’s patient the researchers conclude. Its use could result in overall savings of about $3,000 per patient.

SEOUL -- The apparent ease with which a drone believed to be of North Korean origin shot photos of the presidential palace in Seoul without being detected has some South Koreans worried.

Photos of the building complex known as the Blue House were found in the unmanned aircraft, which crashed on March 24 in Paju, near the border with North Korea. A spokesperson for South Korea's defense ministry said in a news conference on Thursday that the drone is likely to have come from North Korea, partly because Hangul writing on the battery used a spelling unique to the North.

The drone's body was made of polycarbonate, which is difficult for radar to detect, and it was also painted sky blue to make it less visible to the naked eye. According to South Korean media, a Canon camera was mounted on the bottom and the plane could fly for about two hours, covering a distance of 150km.

Based on reports and information provided by defense officials, the drone likely reached the Blue House by flying at a speed of about 100kph but crashed on its way back to North Korea. The drone reportedly was not remotely controlled but instead flew by following a program inputted in advance. Although it had wireless equipment on board, this was not connected to the camera so the 193 images shot during its mission were not transmitted during flight.

The drone was relatively primitive and has little capacity to carry explosives or other payloads, according to reports. A defense official said that although there is little risk of North Korea using drones to commit terrorist acts against South Korea at present, the aircraft may be fully capable of such missions one day with long-term improvements.

Another drone crashed on Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea on Monday. The defense ministry believes that this was also from North Korea.

Drones are increasingly used in actual fighting by the U.S. and others, and many countries are developing their own. If North Korea was indeed behind the drones that infiltrated South Korean airspace, then the South will have to deal with a new threat. Some are calling for high-output radar to be installed to detect small, unmanned aircraft.

Bitcoin boss flees Cyprus after receiving threats

The boss of a Bitcoin company in Cyprus has fled abroad days after it suddenly stopped operations, in a blow to the virtual currency's once vaunted prospects on the island.

Privately owned television channel Sigma TV said Thursday that it had repeatedly tried to contact Neo & Bee CEO Danny Brewster, but to no avail.

The firm launched a huge advertising campaign earlier this year but halted operations late last month before its software to carry out transactions had even gone live.

Brewster himself told specialist Bitcoin news website newsBTC on Tuesday that he had gone abroad after receiving threats against his family, but insisted the move was temporary.

"I left Cyprus on a short-term temporary basis. I haven't shipped anything from Cyprus and I certainly haven't run away with company or people's money or Bitcoins," Brewster told the website.

"I received direct threats targeted directly at my daughter. They have been reported to the relevant authorities," he said.

"Once those threats were made I took the advice to remain outside of Cyprus and remove contact with anyone that could be responsible for the threats. This included not speaking with members of staff that could be responsible."

Sigma TV's website said the company had been in operation for five months with 11 staff in its management team and another 15 people recently recruited to operate its branches and call centre.

It said Neo suppliers and staff had not yet been paid for March and that some employees claimed they had invested in Bitcoin with the personal guarantee of Brewster.

But Brewster insisted on newsBTC: "Every single Bitcoin raised and spent is accounted for, any claims of embezzlement are nothing but empty claims with no foundation."

Cyprus had seemed fertile ground for the online crypto-currency.

In November, the island's largest private university said it had become the first in the world to accept Bitcoin for the payment of tuition and other fees.

The University of Nicosia said at the time that it was also launching the first Master of Science Degree in Digital Currency in 2014, and was drawing up a plan to turn the island into a "hub for Bitcoin trading, processing and banking".

But last month both the central bank and the finance ministry issued warnings to consumers after Neo's advertising blitz, saying Bitcoin was an unregulated virtual currency and therefore inherently unsafe.

The Metal Gear series has been an institution on the Playstation for years. Those of us who joined late with the third game, were dropped into a prequel with no context to understand what was going on and watched what was one of the most convoluted storylines play out in front of us.

The fourth game, which came out near the start of the PS3's lifecycle, only complicated things further, and at this point, trying to get Metal Gear to make sense is a lost cause.

With that being said, the game is available for just Rs. 1,999 on the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PS4, which makes it a steal even if it's only a half decent game, particularly if you're one of the early adopters who bagged a PS4.

So how does it feel to play anyway?

Less of a movie

One famous problem with the Metal Gear games so far has been that they're packed to the gills with exposition, which draws heavily on cinematic tropes for narrative instead of interweaving the storytelling into the gameplay.

This is true. It is not just a tired complaint that has become a truism with no truth behind it. When playing Metal Gear Solid 4, there was a very real chance that you might fall asleep during a cutscene and then get killed once the action started.

Ground Zeroes is not like that. As a setup for the upcoming Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes is a single mission that is meant to be replayed again and again. It's a big, open ended mission that can be approached in a number of different ways, and you're encouraged to do so, because it shows you more hidden secrets. You can also read, to catch up on the history of the game, though honestly, it's not necessary to enjoy the game. The amount of storytelling and cutscenes is very limited, and if wasn't for the tight stealth gameplay, you'd not believe that this was a Metal Gear game!

You've got Kiefer Sutherland - 24's Jack Bauer - voicing Big Boss, instead of series veteran David Hayter. That's a shame, not because Sutherland isn't good enough (far from it), but simply because of Hayter's long history with the series. In a series where theatrical presentation - helped along in no small way by voice acting - created so many iconic characters, so see a man who has performed so well get replaced is a shock.

The game itself remains fairly true to form. The gimmicks of the series keep changing; you've got a map overview and a bullet time like mode where you can take out a guard before he alerts his comrades, but the core gameplay remains largely unaffected.

This is still one of the few titles that emphasises stealth without rendering your character powerless or taking away choices. Metal Gear Solid 4 had made some changes to the controls and tools available to you to make combat a more viable option when absolutely necessary, and Ground Zeroes takes that a little bit further. This is a good thing, and doesn't really take away from the stealth gameplay, which still requires you to be patient and plan ahead.

This review was carried out with a Playstation 3 version of the game. Having seen the screenshots and videos of the next-gen version, it's still looking good on older devices. The PS4 version looks richer and has a lot more on-screen, but that doesn't mean that the PS3 version is a bad buy exactly. The catch is that the price gap between a full sized PS3 game and Ground Zeros isn't that big.

The gameplay itself has been getting some modern tweaks as described above, with the addition of more vehicles and tools, but at the end of the day, the game feels very slow paced, and almost anachronistic.

That's not necessarily a bad thing - some people (including us) will absolutely love it - but particularly if you're not already a fan of the series, then it can be a little difficult to get into. Once you've finished the mission to your heart's content, there's also a few bonus missions to play which can be fun.

They don't really add much to the game as a whole, but if you like leaderboards and achievements then the game can keep you busy for hours.

Engineers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University have demonstrated thin, soft stick-on patches that stretch and move with the skin and incorporate commercial, off-the-shelf chip-based electronics for sophisticated wireless health monitoring.

The patches stick to the skin like a temporary tattoo and incorporate a unique microfluidic construction with wires folded like origami to allow the patch to bend and flex without being constrained by the rigid electronics components. The patches could be used for everyday health tracking – wirelessly sending updates to your cellphone or computer – and could revolutionize clinical monitoring such as EKG and EEG testing – no bulky wires, pads or tape needed.

"We designed this device to monitor human health 24/7, but without interfering with a person's daily activity," said Yonggang Huang, the Northwestern University professor who co-led the work with Illinois professor John A. Rogers. "It is as soft as human skin and can move with your body, but at the same time it has many different monitoring functions. What is very important about this device is it is wirelessly powered and can send high-quality data about the human body to a computer, in real time."

The researchers did a side-by-side comparison with traditional EKG and EEG monitors and found the wireless patch performed equally to conventional sensors, while being significantly more comfortable for patients. Such a distinction is crucial for long-term monitoring, situations such as stress tests or sleep studies when the outcome depends on the patient's ability to move and behave naturally, or for patients with fragile skin such as premature newborns.

Small is in again. Sub-10 inch tablets are more commonplace than ever before. Samsung is doing pretty well with the laudable Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 in the 7-inch form factor.
