Selena was not sure what has to be done next. She had been Head of Communications for her life and suddenly she is doing nothing. She thought of joining others in the arcade but her mind wouldn't allow her to think of something else. The other day when Schuzz told her that Santa is serious about starting the workshop wihtout the Elves this year she became more upset, she decided to meet some of her old friends, maybe this would help her to ease off her pain. Walking down the town square she could see Cherrie at the chocolate bar, she headed for it. "Good evening Cherrie, how are you doing today?" asked Selena.
"Oh thank you never been better, Selena. How you been?" enquired Cherrie. "Have been okay so far, not sure when I would loose my head." said Selena. "Hey don't loose hope things would turn out well for us all" said Cherrie rubbing Selena's back. "I am also hoping the same Cherrie" said Selena with a grin. The chocolate bar was full that day seems the Elves and the other humans were having a fun time. Selena was busy talking to Cherrie, suddenly Selena felt a hand on her back and it was cold, she turned to see who that was. A tall slim guy inan overcoat was standing and smile at her. "Miss Selena I presume?" asked the man in a hoarse voice, "Yes I am Selena and you?" replied Selena "Pardon my intrusion I am Hugh Welsh from The Bank, can I speak to you for a moment?" asked Mr Welsh. "Sure why not" said Selena. "Okay lets go somewhere private and speak". Saying this the two headed for the corner table Cherrie spoke softly to Selena "Don't worry I am here watching you two".

Many possibilities were running wild in Selena's mind, she was atmost wondering why do this man wants to talk to me and that too in private. The duo took two vacant seats across the room with a window to their side, after being comfortable Selena asked "Mr Welsh is the name right, if I have got it right." "Yes mam" replied Hugh. "How can I help you Mr Welsh?" enquired Selena. "Well mam infact we can help each other" said Hugh with a smile. "How is that Mr Welsh?" curious Selena. "We (The Bank) know that you were heading the communication department back at Mr Claus's workshop" said Hugh. "Yes I was, so what about it?" asked Selena. "Well there is a situation at The Bank and we are looking forward to hire as head of communications with at north pole. The remuneration would be fantastic that would also involve other benefits" said Hugh. "But who told you that I am looking for the job?" asked Selena. "Well as you no longer working at the workshop we thought you might be interested in a job change" said Hugh. "Hmmm I have not thought about it yet" said Selena. "Well no hurry Miss Selena, The Bank can wait for an answer. Have a nice rest of the day" saying this Hugh got up and put on his hat and walked towards the exit. Selena still confused got up from the table and walked towards Cherrie across the bar

It took some time for Schuzz to recover from the news meanwhile Schemez had brought two pint of cool North Pole special beer Clungsy . The beer is made of wild redberry apple only found in the hills of Sorlon to the east of the town. About two hundred years back Clung a senior Elf was busy experimenting with redberry apple juice and he accidently found out that he can brew a tasty beer out of this sweet and sour fruit. The Elves and Santa loved it so much Santa announced that no other drinks would be served in North Pole. "Thank you Schemez" said Schuzz while taking the pint from Schemez.
"As if the world has come to an end, I have been with the workshop my entire life and now I have to look for a new job?" Schuzz looked at Schemez "This was not meant to be, somebody has to talk in sense to Santa" said Schemez. "Schemez then let’s do it we can go together and talk to him directly and see what can be done" Schuzz dropped his pint on the sidewalk and pulled Schemez towards him. Schemez too kept his pint down and stood up, they together walked towards the workshop.

Santa was sitting his office sipping the Clungsy , after every sip he would think of good old days he had spent with the Elves especially with Clung, it has been five hundred years now since his father, Santa Claus the 20th handed over the legacy to him and he was much disappointed that things turned this way. Santa was disturbed from his thoughts by a knock on the door "Who is that?" enquired Santa, "It’s us Mr.Santa Schuzz and Schemez, can we come in?" Schuzz spoke nervously. "Yes my old friends come in" said Santa. Schuzz opened the door to enter the room that was once alive and brightly lit, now light is avaliable only through the fire place burning the last logs from the store. "Ah Schuzz, Schemez how are you people doing?" enquired Santa "Things were better before Mr.Santa.." Schuzz was interrupted by Schemez, in an angry tone he asked "Why are you replacing us?" "I am not replacing anybody. It was not me who left the workshop, it was you all" Santa replied in a similar tone "What can I do should I not think about the Children’s of the world? Spoil their Christmas just because the Elves didn't come to work?" said Santa. "We are ready now to come to work, will you take us back?" asked Schuzz. "Thats you two, have you been to the town square lately? Elves are busy enjoying life, their Gaming Arcade, Hot Chocolate bar, the Bank. Would they like to come back?" asked Santa "Mr. Santa I can talk to them and see what can be done. We can start the workshop again" said Schemez. "It’s already too late I am starting the workshop next week, Mr Mo from China is helping us out this year. Maybe.." Santa said with a hesistation "..Maybe the Elves should take a break this year" Santa was looking away from Schuzz and Schemez. Nothing more to say Schuzz and Schemez disappointed walked away from the office. Santa sighed in grief, the damage has been done.

It had been four hours straight and Leviz has continued on the slots, he had been wining for an hour and then lost some money though he continued on as he had nothing to loose, for till now Leviz was not concerned about money. Like any other Elves Leviz considered money to be just some shining glittering metal. The North Pole never had a currency system and so the Bank decided to roll out some in form of shining coins, the face of the chairman was put in for the first batch of 20,000 gold shining coins, initially the Bank decided to call the currency as North Pole Dollar but decided to hold the naming ceremony for a while.
Leviz's money holder was empty but he was wining and needed more money. He was not sure from where he can get those it was initially some random guy in a black suite had distributed it at the town square. Leviz decided to leave the arcade and head for home. As he stood up to do so came along Evan and said "Leviz what happend? you going home so early". "Oh yeah Evan need to go, Mrs would be waiting for dinner" replied Leviz. "Oh of course, I see you have emptied your purse. Here take some more money as a thank you from the arcade" said evan handing over some more shining metals to Leviz. "Oh thank you Evan. I am wining in that game so I think I would like to play more tomorrow" said Leviz. "Yes sure my friend, tell you what bring in more of your friends to play slots and I will give you more shining metals as a thank you" said Evan with a grin. "Oh in that case I will bring in my friends too. See you tomorrow Mr Evan". Look at our town nobody is concerned to what is happening to us, to the town and to Santa". "What happened to Santa?" asked Schuzz with a serious tone. "Schuzz Santa has decided to open the workshop again.." "How is that possible? all elves are here enjoying.
How would Santa going to make his machines work?" Schuzz kept on asking. "I am not sure, I went to see Santa and saw some foreign people in his office talking about opening the workshop in such a way that Santa can make some money" Schemez answered.
It was a crowded day at the gaming arcade, it has been only three weeks from the opening day and still the elves haven't got enough of it. More and more elves just pour in some them are so regular they have even asked to bring in new games into the arcade. Selena was playing her later game "Air Hockey" with her friend and they were enjoying it a lot. It was been three hours continous that they have been playing and Selena was wining too. Leviz was waiting for his turn and for sometime he has been waiting, Leviz have been reminding Selena that he is waiting too and everytime Selena would say "Leviz few more minutes see I am wining here".
This had been the case in other parts of the world Selena would have been already have been removed forcibly from the table. Leviz was a gentleelf and didn't want to create a scene there, so he went ahead and complained it to the arcade manager. Evan the arcade manager was a young fellow from Siberia who used to a wrestler for the national team but due bad back he had quit the profession and joined the gaming company as a sales man referred by the Russian government. Evan was not having a great day, he had to manage so many customers simulatneously, on request of Leviz decided to politely speak to Selena. Evan walked towards the Air Hockey table and in a polite gesture "Excuse me miss but I believe you have been on this table for sometime now and looks stressed out. Why don't you take break and enjoy our in house freshly brewed coffee". Selena turned around to see who was speaking to her in a polite tone, "Oh thats okay but I am not tired and infact I am enjoying the game a lot. I think I will play for some more". Evan couldn't say much on it as he didn't want selena to get offended so he turned to Leviz and said "Sorry sir you have to wait for sometime, meanwhile why can't you try out other games. Like the one in the corner. Its a new game and it is called as Slots". Leviz could see the game in the corner and asked Evan "I haven't tried that game before and I so wanted to play Air Hockey". Evan replied "I understand sir but Slot is also an interesting game and best part of the game is you can get good money if you win some games". Leviz pondered "But what will do with the money? Anyways I will try that game so has to kill some time" Evan exclaimed "Very well sir, as a beginner I would like to offer you first six rounds free". "Thank you Evan" said Leviz and proceeds towards the corner, "Slots I hope the game is interesting" ........

The Hot Chocoloate making companies sales team had been on their heels, they knew this is a new market for them and they have seen the potential of the market. Elves have never tasted their other products, the VP of sales and marketing was confident that they would love their other products. In matter of months the company decided to launch their choclolate bars in nuts, coffee, caramel and white cream flavours, the company hired ad agency layson and gibbs to promote their product in elves town.
The Eveles when they saw the hoarding's and posters around he town they were excited to see the new product range and wanted to try it instantly. Schuzz one of the elf was walking down the red shoe street and was busy thinking how things ahve changed in this town in couple of months. He hasn't seen Santa for time now and he is not sure what is happening in the factory. He always wanted to go back but feared what will the other elves eill say or do to him. Just when he was about to turn away from the road to his house he was pulled from behind, he turned to see who was it, it was Schemez and he looked concerned.

With much fun and fare the Evlen Gaming Arcade was opened in the middle of the town, near to the great fountain of Reindeer's. This is the place where Santa and all other elves would gather on Christmas eve and sing carols together. To build the grand Evlen Gaming Arcade the bank had contracted the job to Fuceint Technologies a California based company and they have done a wonderful job.
The Elves were pretty happy with the games some of them was so overjoyed that they promised the Bank that they will come here every day. The Bank decided to waive off any fees for the Gaming Arcade on the opening day, across the street a man in red and white robes was watching all this. Santa was missing his old buddies but it seems they are happy without him......

The elder of all elves Schemez was missing Santa and the workshop and one day he decided to go and meet Mr Santa. As he entered the main workshop floor he could hear voices from Mr Santa's office he decided to check out what is happening before knocking on the door. He couldn't make out what they were talking.

He quickly goes outside and tries to peek from the corner window. He could see three chinese people explaining something to Santa one at a time, of which a short guy in the middle was doing all the actions with his hands. Suddenly the short Chinese guy shouted in excitment, "thus by this you can get rid of all your elves and save thousands of Dollar everyday..." Schemez was shocked to hear that, he climbed down in distress and with a serious concern on his face he walked towards the exit gate. He was still trying to digest what he had heard. Mr. Santa Claus wants us out from his life? The CEO from Mo & Han trading company was short built and had a smile glued to his face. He was very much polite to Santa and with much anxiety he bowed down to greet the white bearded client prospect. "Sir my name is Mo Chao representing Mo & Han trading company" saying this he digged deep into his pocket and presented a red visiting card to Santa.
Santa took the card and read it carefully. "Hello Mr Chao, how are you doing today ho ho ho" enquired Santa. "Mr Santa Claus I am good thank you, I hope this cold weather is not making much trouble for you?" asked Mo. "Trouble? I like snow" after a brief chit chat Santa asked "So Mr Chao you have a solution for me?". Taking a deep breath Mo stood up and said "Yes we do, Sir Santa your main business is sharing joy to the world in form of gifts. We are into business of making gifts" Santa was listening carefully. Mo continued "If my calculations are right you spend 15 Dollars to manufacture a single toy whereas we can supply it to you gift wrapped for 7 Dollars". Santa also stood up and said, "Sounds a good deal, pardon me for my ignorance but what is a Dollar?". The executives shut themselves in a room and brain stormed what would be the possible reasons for the downward ratio.
The end of the meeting they found out that the elves were using only the savings account for their salary and weren't using the money at all, they weren't sure what to do with it. The bank decided to make sure the money is spent or used up, they decided to setup a gaming arcade full of digital games, bowling alley, snooker and pool tables. In the official Reindeer gazette an ad was placed wherein the Bank claimed to be helping out elves to relax after their hard day work.
In the other part of the town Santa was sad that christmas for kids have been ruined because his elves didn't show up for work. Now what? Santa was busy though thinking of a next strategy so that he can start his workshop / factory of gift making.
He decided to put in an advertisement in the local news the very next day for a solution to the problem, but alas none came forward. Santa went one step ahead and put the ad in a global news paper and a popular social website on internet and within hours he started getting responses from all over the world. One of the best suggestion was given from China "Outsource". Santa was wondering what an Outsource is, he sent a letter to the company and asked them to come and visit him. Within a week the first delegation of the chinese company CEO, VP of Sales and production was at Santa's doorstep.

In 1992, The American Heritage Dictionary acknowledged the popular use of a new word, intrapreneur, to mean "A person within a large corporation who takes direct responsibility for turning an idea into a profitable finished product through assertive risk-taking and innovation". Terms such as intrapreneuring (Pinchot, 1985), corporate entrepreneurship (Burgelman, 1983, Vesper, 1984; Guth and Ginsberg, 1990; Hornsby et al., 1993, Stopford and Baden-Fuller, 1994), corporate venturing (MacMillan, 1986; Vesper, 1990), and internal corporate entrepreneurship (Schollhammer, 1981, 1982; Jones and Butler, 1992) have been used to describe the phenomenon of intrapreneurship (Antonic and Hisrich, 2001). For instance, Stevenson and Jarillo (1990) defined intrapreneurship as a process in which individuals inside organizations pursue opportunities without regard to the resources they currently control, while Vesper (1990) defined it as doing new things and departing from the customary to pursue opportunities. According to Hisrich and Peters (1998), intrapreneurship is a spirit of entrepreneurship within the existing organization. Some of the definitions have been narrow and focused on large organizations to the exclusion of smaller organizations. Intrapreneurship is perhaps best understood as a form of internal entrepreneurship that takes place with the encouragement and support of management. An employee who takes responsibility for developing an innovative idea into a marketable product is known as an intrapreneur. Management consultants Gifford and Elizabeth Pinchot coined the term in 1976 and helped popularize the concept of intracorporate entrepreneurship in their pioneering book “Intrapreneuring: Why the companies don’t Have to Leave the Corporation to Become an Entrepreneur (1985)”.

In the past many companies have identified the values of Intrapreneurship and have setup internal organization whose main focus and purpose is to promote innovation amongst ranks, popular amongst all is the “Skunk Works” group setup at Lockheed Martin. The Skunk Works group was originally named after a reference in a cartoon, and was first brought together in 1943 to build the P-80 fighter jet. Kelly Johnson, later famous for Kelly's 14 rules of Intrapreneurship was the director of this group. Companies like 3M, Intel and Google also has a tradition of implementing Intrapreneurship in their organization.

Forgetting the Past, confused in the future

Sunday was sunny and a nice day to get my oversized body outside for a walk, it has been ages since I have taken a pleasure walk. Nowadays I walk purely for business, be it because of a flat tyre, buying goodies from a nearby shop or to reach office from the designated parking area, walking was for a reason. But Sunday I thought of testing my muscles and bones and decided to move around in between trees at a nearby park. It was refreshing for me at the park, to see so many kids running around and playing with their buddies, nostalgic moments I should say to think that once upon a time, I was a kid doing the same. Still refreshing and enjoying the scenic beauty I was tugged from back by a strange hand and I was forcibly turned and saw a grown up man in his late twenties, he was smiling at me at astonishment and moment later he started clapping overjoyed as if a boy’s wish of an ice cream has been fulfilled.

Well I was still confused and was staring at this act of joy but was not rude I was smiling at him too, well after a while he got hold of himself and said “Hey dude its surprise to see you here, that too after 10 years” . I was scratching my head couldn’t recollect this guy . He continued “man I saw you last at Neha’s party, you were drunk and was trying to unbutton your shirt stating it’s hot in there”. Okay who the hell is Neha and why should I be embarrassing myself by removing my shirt and show off my proud beer belly? Anyways I was frustrated like anything but had a grip on myself and was still looking at him without a clue.” Tell me how Neha is doing nowadays, heard you guys got married five years back. Got any kids? Ha? ha?” okay that was my clue to break the conversation and tell him I am not the man, you have misidentified the person. I raised my right hand ready to point my index finger and tell him looking right in his eye “Hey, you have the wrong person”. Before I could do that he snapped “Hey buddy you have lost weight… ” I have lost weight? That something new for me, haven’t heard that statement for…sayyy.. Never! Not once anybody admired me using those sentence because I never gave a chance, have been consistent.

Anyways the guy went on for fifteen minutes about his life and family and why he has moved back to the city I belong to after a gap of 10 years. I think he was in a hurry else he was willing to share more into his professional life too but he decided to end the conversation “Oh look at the time , I have to go, do one thing here is my card, lets meet up this Sunday and catch up with our old times” he handed over his card with smile and started walking away. I decided to walk away too in the opposite direction, with astonishment and confusion I turned to look at the guy walking away from me at the same moment he turned and waved at me and unknowingly I waved back too, that seals the deal he might have thought he has found his long lost best friend.

Walking away I was still in awe, why did he thought I am his friend, am I really a friend of his and I had a girl friend Neha , nah it couldn’t be ... could it?

Skills to Annotate

Good stories with intentions are hard to find sometimes if found it’s hard to interpret it. Nowadays I think people seldom like to read books which have more then one meaning in it and the amazing part is every individual would make out some meaning of those stories. Other day my brother’s father in law showed me a short story compiled by him. He said whenever I write I empathize or sympathize with the character or else it’s hard for him to imagine how the character behaves; now that’s what all writing is all about, you tell your story in a way the people would know it’s for real, at least for that moment. The story was of two pages and end of the last paragraph it did hit me like a big splash of emotional wave. The story was intense but yet subtle in a way conveying not a message but the state of mind of the character and we always wish we could know more of that person about whom the story is all about, his or her childhood who all were the friends and relatives etc. My brother happened to enter the room when I was discussing the story with his father in law the innocence and how deep emotions the story convey. My brother picked the pages, glanced through and once he was finished he announced the story is "wow" but I couldn’t understand the end. I think it is a habit for people to look for an outcome in a story like lord Voldemort is slain in the end of the Harry Potter saga or David Webb finds out his true identity in the Bourne series, but is it a rule that we need a decisive ending to a story. Look at Inception where in the end the top is still spinning keeping the audience in a mystery whether Leonardo has indeed back to reality.

I think the most important thing is interpreting what the writer has done, there is no good or bad or even right or wrong. It’s just an interpretation and the amazing thing is the writer has been inspired by some events in his or her life or maybe some other's lives and interpreting it into a story, now who is going to judge that interpretation?

Santa is Out of Job

With the advent of the bank it became easy for the elves to store their money and use it whenever it was required. Well sometimes it was quite hectic for the elves to just go to bank and withdrew some money, as it would be that there might be a big queue.
Thus looking at the problem bank decided to setp up some ATM machines around every corner of the elves town. Elves was so enthrilled with this, they were happy to touch the button see white and blue letters popping up on the screen and easy to withdrew their money. The crowd at the branch were going down and the employees of the bank started to have more time. The bank manager decided to buy some Television set boxes for its branch so that employees can watch it during their break or free time.

The other day when I met Santa Claus I asked him whether everything is fine out there in the Polar; he shook his head and said we are short of Soothing Hot Chocolate.

It seems globalization has hit the polar caps too; Timbucks have started their ventures there too, importing coffee beans from Columbia and Cocoa from Honduras. Due to shortage of man power they are hiring elves by giving them huge salaries and perks. Thus Santa Claus is short of elves for his factory (gifts), it seems this year or maybe many coming years the kids have to wait, perhaps Santa would be sending an apology letter instead.
When we tried to contact the CEO of TimBucks - Richard Coca-fee, this is what they he had to say, "Our organizations main vision has been to provide good quality food to the world, we felt like Mr. Santa Claus needs our food to refresh from his stressful job and see he is so happy today".
The elves were paid actual salaries in dollars, thus to manage their money world renowned bank Capitol-on International has decided to open up a new branch in the elves colony.
I was once told man can do anything he wants if he has the will to do it, could it more dramatic. Wonders do happen in this pious world filled with people of mixed reactions and emotions. I have a friend in one corner of the world where he is a multibillionaire but he has gained so short of emotional aspect of life, he decided to be a rock and not a human of flesh, blood and tears. On the other hand when I shake my hand with my friend from different continent he is so good with people, he doesn’t care who it was, man is so indifferent. Both are blessed indifferently in a different way.

Now put me somewhere in middle of this scale where I am a person who wants both, yes I want to be Multi Billionaire with a heart of a gummy bear. Next time you see such initiative in your company do not ignore, but Tear that thing from the wall .

Simple Steps - Ha You Kidding Me!! - Part I

I am a offbeat guy with a sense of humour for anything that involves me shredding some pounds off my love handle. You belong to a mental asylum if you are spending money on gym, yeah thats my policy. Well it couldn't get worse when a new policy was set up as part of the corporate social responsibility intiative in the organization I work. The slogan couldn't be more torturing "To Save some lets shred some", well let me give you the background they want us to walk the entire staircase from floor to floor to save some enery, and guess in which floor I work, level five.
Yeah Gnid didn't had plans for famous five to have a famous five corporate office at level 5, they had it on a tree top, but my company have to build a 30 by 30 cubicle at level 5, by the way did I mention the first two level is parking or indirectly I am working at level 7. The slogan had a catch I had a closer look at the banner and the slogan had a asteriks to its end and the banner bottom said,
Goal - Climb 3 floors
Stretch Goal - Climb 5 floors
This was put into our yearly outlined goals, I was to climb 7 floors to get a good rating at the end of the year.

How to sell a Lie

It couldn't be a better day, my friend today is friday, Yes the day when all my misery and cribing of work comes to a halt for two days. Sunday evening is the time when I recharge to get going and achieve something out of life in five days. The week is lucky if its a long weekend, be it a friday off or monday . It doesn't matter which day you work, everyday is a monday as long as long you are working. Well today I decided to do something new, something no one has ever done, I decided to attend a two hours training on a product that automates online marketing, and I was so astonished on my decision to sit for the training. There were only five people in the room and a trainer who gosh I should say is well versed on the product of lie. Well the product is designed so that the Business who doesn't understand what a computer except for playing solitaire doesn't have to interact with the IT geeks who doesn't understand what a business attire is all about. Yes I agree there are IT people who wear suits, my friend they spend additional year(s) to get a degree of management so that they can prove they are too business minded, don't be so agonized with the way I have put it those are my views and I own it.

So the trainer went on and on for two hours explaining the audience why should the business should decide to buy this product, well to be frank I didn't get much what she was saying anyways. Only concern was why did the training was so cold, are they trying to brain freeze me, nah they don't have to worry too much to do that, they are busy in their strategy to lessen expense and device new ways of working the life out of people. Anyways I was smiling and nodding the entire time of the session, and when the feedback form was distributed I was so enthrilled I nearly had an heart attack. Well it has been years that someone would come up and say hey you Jayashankar good for nothing this ain't the way it has to be done, now its my turn, I would avenge, thy will suffer under my wrath of the mighty feed back hahahahahahaha.

I must say the form was impressive, it had columns and inputs section in details, I didn't have a pen so I borrowed one from the guy nearby (I am not sure if he was an ITian, he was carrying a pen). The judgement day has come I handed over the form to the trainer and went to the exit the room with a winning heart and a soul to conquer the odds.

Just outside I realised I forgot something, my cell phone and went in to pick it up and what did I see the trainer is reading the feedback form, I thought of leaving the cell phone there and go for it after some time, well no I can't do that my cell phone is precious, I have so many emotions and sms attached with that phone, so I dared and went ahead and picked up the cell silently and was about to exit the training room thats when she the trainer gave me a look, thats all I need to run for my life. I never looked back, I have training next month though and I am hoping its not the same trainer again, if she is I am on sick leave.
