Vans have been going since 1966, when Paul Van Doren started selling his deck shoes from a small store in Anaheim, California. That deck shoe is now known as ‘The Authentic,’ a shoe that has become one of the most recognised silhouettes around, and has given birth to classic styles such as the chukka, Sk8 Hi and Era.

More recently, Vans have expanded on this deck shoe, with the addition of the Vault range. The aim of this range is to take the famous designs and work with like-minded companies to produce limited edition collaborations.

MAYDAY: The Art of Shepard Fairey Book

A release from one of the worlds best known street artists, MAYDAY: The art of Shepard Fairey has been published as a celebration of his work, with pieces reflecting round the working class and oppression faced by such. Fairey stakes the claim that artists, musicians and writers such as Joe Strummer, Jean Michel Basquiat and Cornel West all have parts to play in stimulating response to injustice.

Time Out Banksy

A copy of Time Out London’s Banksy Edition publication landed on the doorstep of Kulture Online HQ earlier this week. The magazine was approached allegedly by Banksy himself to produce the cover of the magazine – no doubt to promote his new film (*cough*sellout*cough*).

Inside the pages is an interview with Banksy which is a great read, however it is fairly unrevealing, as you’d expect from the man of mystery. The interviewer questions Banksy on a range of topics from his newly released film to his recent clashes with Robbo.

The article is certainly a good read so if you are able to get your hands on it, read it in the shop, as the rest of the magazine is just standard Time Out London.

BBC Sport Winter Olympics Intro

The last few weeks have been Winter Olympic crazy with massive UK coverage on the BBC. Since first seeing the intro to the BBC Sport coverage I have been impressed by the animation. And, from a design point of view, I think it’s one of the best I’ve seen recently, in terms of animation style and short snappy story.

Artist registration for the 2010 Upfest in bristol is open….The theme for this years festival is Mash’UP, this means they are asking artists to apply as pairs and collaborate on the ‘Live’ work over the weekend.

Mr Zero’s Ghosts

Mr Zero has posted pictures of new work up on his flickr. A fantastic demonstration of his free hand graffiti skills.

The piece of art also has a little story behind it and an interesting location:

“my friend Sior found an abandoned building(it was a pioneer camp) somewhere in the forest….
we decided to visit it….another nice playground…
spent maybe one hour there and i put some quick ghosts…..”
