Six degrees of separation @ Brick Lane Gallery

From the 5th June to the 15th, the Brick Lane gallery will be showing off their new exhibition, Six degrees of separation. All the work in it will bbe offered for sale by private collectors.
It’s got quite a good lineup of artists. Some of the ones I got listed in my email are:

Charity t-shirt competition: Mk2, Stage 1: Pick your prize!

Ok, after some consideration, I’ve decided to start the second charity t-shirt competition, despite not all the shirts selling yet (You can still buy them from our shop!)

So for the first step, this time we’re adding an extra little incentive! A prize for the winner and also some lesser prizes for the runners up. It will be paid for using money from the ads. We can’t have anything too expensive, but we won’t go amazingly cheap either.

Upcoming show in Brooklyn, NY

While I know the majority of the users of Concrete canvas are English, we do have some American readers. For this reason, I think I should give them a little recognition with the announcement of this exhibition in NY.

The theme of the exhibition is 2012, which as some of you may know, is signified as the end of the world by the Mayan calendar, which is what the show is based around. It attempts to centre the user around this changing world.

THe artists that are involved think that as the world is nearing this year, people are changing the ways they view street art. It features Avoid, Bloke, and Farrow, all in one exhibition. It opens during Bushwick open studio weekend, and is done by Factory Fresh and Mighty Tanaka.

It lasts until the 21st of June.

I recently got reminded of this: WiiSpray I saw it a while ago, but had forgotten about it. I think it’s a really cool idea. It has loads of possibilities, like sharing your art, although of course this could be done through flickr. It could also do other stuff though, such as group efforts across the world, and practising, both for the experienced, before they do it in real life, and for the inexperienced, to get better without cluttering up walls with horrible tags and stuff.

Anyways, I probably sound like I’m trying to sell it to you, sorry, I’m not affiliated with them in any way, honest!

What do you all think about it?

Daily Mail “discovers identity of Banksy”

Looks like the daily mail is running out of stories at the moment… Yesterday, they published a story, trying to repeat their previous accusation last year that he was “Robin Gunningham”. However, the reason because of this was a stencil, photographed by unusualimage, of a rat holding up a sign with a picture of him, which the Daily Mail is saying is a self portrait. However, this is unlikely for several reasons, particularly that Banksy has recently stopped using the rat image in his stencils, and the rat holding up a sign has been used several times by the Not Banksy group. Also, I find it a tad unlikely that Banksy would give up the majority of his income stream, by taking away his own anonymity, especially without mention on his website, unless he’s just trying to stir things up?

This week’s FOTW was submitted via email to me, and after carefully comparing it with the other submissions, I’ve decided that Myne’s page is this week’s winner. It was close, but I really like Myne’s stuff.

I really don’t ever know what to say with these things, I find that people should decide for themselves whether they like something rather than someone giving them reasons why they should like it, so I’ll let you see them yourself.

Brighton street blitz ~~ 1st-31st May!

Hi guys, I really apologise for my absence! Personal things, and all that shizzle. I’d like to really thank human, for continuing to post in my absence, and to all the loyal members who still visited regularly, despite the lack of blog posts. I have however, been proactive with searching for some additional writers, so at least this should hopefully make sure the site is constantly updated, as I know I’m not the best with that! ;p Anyway, down to the main point of the article!

Brighton street blitz is an event running from the 1st to the 31st of May. The motivation behind this is that Brighton has become filled with art becoming overly commercialised, and how the colour and character is being sucked out of Brighton. They propose that Brighton be turned into an open air art gallery. For four weeks, all people living in or near Brighton, are invited to, in the words of the creators:

“Whether you make murals, stencils, stickers, posters, sculptures, street projections, sign modification/removal/additions, billboard subverting/defacing/destruction etc; Whether creative or destructive; whether to convey a message, brighten up a dull spot, rewire some corporate brainwashing tactics; whether to leave your mark, remove a stain, express yourself or simply to show your disgust - it’s all valid and all adds to The Blitz!”

I know it’s a tiny bit late, but I still think it’s early enough to be posted.

I can’t wait to see the work produced by this, it should hopefully be good!
