2026 Cactus Classic Major

Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC- (FL-Major) rolled through the 2026 Cactus Classic Major played at the Pioneer Community Park in Peoria, Arizona in near perfect weather. They went undefeated beating BeHappy/Standard Plumbing (AZ-AA) 49-33 in the winner’s bracket final early Saturday afternoon and again 42-21 in the early evening championship game. They played on 325 foot fences with the Dudley Pro-M (China) ball. Fishers/All Hustle/Leacock Sports (PA-B) won out over the other 11 ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams to finish 3rd and My AZ Lawyers/Impact/Mason Pro (AZ-B) finished 4th. Resmondo scored 43 runs per game and their late inning offense and pitching in that winner’s final was the difference. This was Resmondo’s 5th regular season tournament win in 6 tournaments in 2026. To put that in perspective, they only won 2 regular season tournaments in all of 2025. Conference continues play in Maryland June 5th and Houston June 6th.

Women’s Cactus Classic

The women had 7 teams and started and finished their double elimination tournament on Saturday. Derby Girls/Smash It/Resmondo (WA-Major) went undefeated knocking off Arizona’s own SD Lighting/Proton/GemGloves (AZ-A) 16-1 in the winner’s final and 24-9 in the championship. The women used the Hardcore ball on the 325 foot fences. This was Derby Girls 3rd tournament win of the season.

Play In Games Recap

Patterson and the JPS ‘B’ team took it to WestPoint in the opening game.

The 2026 Memorial Major played on the baseball fields at the USA Baseball Complex in Millington, TN and began and ended on Saturday May 23rd. The 7 team double elimination tournament was a little bit “top heavy” with 3 Major teams, a ‘AA’ team, and 3 ‘B’ teams. They used the Dudley Hardcore ball which flew pretty good in the high humidity but overcast weather. The infielders said it was also more accurate to throw than the Pro-M’s we have been using. The show field was a stadium with 310-335-380-335-310 fence dimensions.

The tournament began with 3 “play in” games. At 8 AM in the stadium JPS/No Pressure/Blane Dunn Const (AR-B) out powered WestPoint (IN-AA) early on and made an unusual number of nice plays on the fence in the outfield. JPS stands for Julian Panel Sports. In the bottom of the 3rd inning the JPS centerfielder Patterson threw out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double and JPS led 16-13 mid game. In the top of the 5th WestPoint left fielder Joey Kampfer robbed a homer. In the bottom of the 5th WestPoints Ryan Ramirez hit a grand slam to put them up 18-17. In the top of the 6th the JPS power returned when Billy Pearson hit a 2 out 2 run homer and Sinku hit a pinch hit homer to put JPS back on top and WestPoint tied the game going into the 7th on a Ryan Mcclanahan homer. In the top of the 7th JPS hit their 4 remaining home runs (14 total) and the defense played a perfect game to hold onto the upset 26-23! Back on field #3 with its 340-348-380-333-307 field dimensions the other two “play in” games were going on. DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD (IN-Major) struggled with Top Shelf/BC Apparel/Icon (OK-B) trailing 13-9 early on. But they hung two zero’s on Top Shelf and scored in every inning to hold on to a 20-18 lead without having to bat in the bottom of the 7th. Dan Smith only out homered Top Shelf 9-7 in the game. At 9:45 AM Juno Athletics / LSR (NJ-Major) made quick work of Great Ape Grips (GA-B) 31-4.

Final 4 Recap

Also, at 9:45 AM in the stadium the semifinals began with #1 Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC- taking the field against upset minded JPS. Resmondo middle infielder Heath Barnes made one of the best diving plays of the year in the top of the 1st inning to hold JPS to zero runs. Then Resmondo scored 6 on 4 all with 2 outs. Most of the hits in this game were home runs it felt like (25 HR out of 40 hits) and the Resmondo defense and pitching was solid as they inched out to a 13-5 lead after 3 innings and it was 19-12 and 10-10 on home runs after the top of the 5th. Brad Reckart pitched this game and Travis Clark played 1st base. In the bottom of the 5th needing 8 runs to end it, Resmondo did just that, getting a pinch hit home run from Kyle Pearson to end it 28-12. It was their 15th home run of the game. Bradley Jones, Cory Briggs, and Heath Barnes were perfect on base in the game.

Semifinal #2 featured the return of pitcher Andy Purcell after 4 years in retirement.

In the 2nd semifinal it was two major teams Juno Athletics and Dan Smith. Juno had most of their players and manager/sponsor Mark Carucci was there for the first time this year. And for Dan Smith it was their new pickup Andy Purcell pitching for the first time in 4 years! Purcell had the knuckle ball going early, was trying to get the flat strike called, and threw a couple “unfairly delivered” sidearm balls just like in the old days. He held Juno scoreless in the top of the 2nd and got a number of mishits throughout the game. Meanwhile the offense jumped out to a 20-5 lead, Andy Purcell was on base 3-3, and the Dan Smith pitching and defense held Juno to just 10 runs in 5 innings, getting the win 31-10. Arlis Miller, Josh Riley, Tyler Ervine, Tyler Storey, and Purcell were all perfect on base in the game. Ryan Harvey did not play, back spasms.

Winner’s Final Recap

The winner’s final took place in the afternoon between the two superpowers Dan Smith and Resmondo. Resmondo led the season series 3 games to 2. Dan Smith came out and scored 11 runs on 5 homers. Resmondo responded with 12 on 5. Then Dan Smith scored 10 on 3 to go up 21-12. When Resmondo put up a 3 spot in the bottom of the 2nd and it was Dan Smith’s chance to pounce, but they ended up putting up a zero. In the bottom of the 4th Travis Clark hit a homer to tie the game at 22-22 with the teams even on homers 9-9. Andy Purcell pitching his second game of the season pitched very well getting 2 strikeout looking’s and overall kind of made Resmondo look like they were struggling at the plate. With Resmondo hitting “bad” homers it looked like Dan Smith might pull through. But the Dan Smith offense disappeared in the middle innings putting up just 1 run in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings total but Dan Smith they still held a 33-27 lead going into the bottom of the 7th. In the last frame Resmondo needing 7 runs on 6 homers to win hit 3 straight homers before Heath Barnes struck out looking and Dan Smith center fielder Brandon Yoder robbed Kyle Pearson of a homer at the 380 mark. Now Resmondo down 1 with 2 to hit and 2 outs got a game tying homer from Travis Clark, an intentional walk to Bradley Jones, and a walk off 3 run homer from Jason Matusik to win 36-33! Dan Smith had left 3 homers on the table and Resmondo was led by Daniel Cayton who was 6-6 with 4 extra base hits.

Loser’s Bracket Recap

WestPoint middle infielder Steve Hendrickson makes a spectacular diving play in the loser’s final.

In the loser’s bracket Great Ape Grips beat the other two ‘B’ teams Top Shelf 26-10 and JPS 17-16 to finish 4th. And WestPoint upset Juno Athletics 25-10 over on field #3 and then they beat Great Apes 27-15 to make it to the loser’s final back in the stadium against Dan Smith. In that game some good WestPoint defense early and a Canaan Baum home run rob led to an early 10-3 lead. But Dan Smith 3rd baseman Joey Miller turned a 5-2 double play to hold WestPoint scoreless in the top of the 3rd and Dan Smith came in and scored 17 runs on 8 homers to go up 20-10. Dan Smith then held off WestPoint down the stretch 32-28. Jeremy Fry was 5-5 on base to lead Dan Smith who pitched Faron Fry in this game after shutting down Andy Purcell for the rest of the tournament.

Championship Recap

The championship began around 6:30 PM.

The championship began around 6:30 PM central as it cooled off some more and the humidity went down and the batted ball speeds went up. There was no wind. Both teams tried to “play the game” early and conserve home runs and Dan Smith did that a little better than Resmondo and got out to a 16-3 lead when Resmondo went down in order in the bottom of the 2nd. Then Dan Smith scored 8 more in the top of the 4th going up 24-5 on a Josh Riley 3 run homer and it looked like Dan Smith would for sure force the “if” game. But Resmondo scored 11 in the bottom of the 4th, 14 in the bottom of the 5th, and 14 more in the bottom of the 6th to enter the 7th inning with an unlikely 44-42 lead. Dan Smith scored 2 runs to tie in it in the top of the 7th but left 3 home runs on the table leaving Resmondo to need just 1 run to win and they had 1 homer to hit. Dan Smith intentionally walked Kyle Pearson then Travis Clark singled. With runners on 1st and 2nd Bradley Jones hit a towering fly ball down the left field line and seemingly out of play, but Tyler Storey caught the ball controversially near fair territory and carried it out of play. The umpires got together and they said he did catch the ball and when he carried it out of play that gave the runner home plate and Resmondo won the game 45-44. It is Resmondo’s 4th tournament win of the season and 3rd in a row. Travis Clark was again MVP and he went 7-7 in the final game and Cory Briggs went 6-6. Resmondo also takes a commanding lead in the Conference points standings.

The USA baseball complex is a great place for a conference tournament. It is devastating that 12 teams dropped out of this event which is my favorite tournament of the year. Conference USSSA continues their season in Peoria, Arizona May 29th.

The umpires said Tyler Storey caught this ball and carried it out of play, thus allowing the winning run to score.

Long Bomber of the Week!

Juno’s Donnie Walsh is the Long Bomber of the Week hitting this ball over that first tree in deep left center. Other honorable mentions are Tyler Ervine from Dan Smith and Terry Lambright from WestPoint who kept hitting moon shots reminding me of Jeremy Isenhower back in the day.

Resmondo is rolling through the regular season winning 4 of the 5 tournaments they have played in and winning on all sized fields. Their depth, power, and ability to step on the gas when needed puts them in a position to win the regular season points championship and thus the #1 seed for the USSSA Major World Series where they will try to win their 4th in a row! Travis Clark is having a league MVP type season both hitting and pitching.

Dan Smith is struggling. Their offense disappears at times and didn’t even support Andy Purcell’s excellent pitching performance in that winner’s final game against Resmondo. The defense and even hustle at times is in question. This week they added another veteran pitcher Justin Mucciarelli to the roster. They didn’t have a pinch hitter for Purcell when needed in the winner’s final and they didn’t have a pitcher they wanted to put in when Resmondo scored double digits 3 consecutive innings in the championship?

3rd Place – WestPoint

IN-AA  Record  2-2

WestPoint lost to the JPS ‘B’ team in their opener but recovered to upset Juno by the run rule and they played Dan Smith pretty good in the loser’s final. Much like Dan Smith, WestPoint is nowhere near peaking so far this year.

My apologies to Great Ape who I never did see play. They were always on the other field from where I was and I wasn’t able to get over to F3 to get their 4th place team photo. They did win the battle of ‘B’ teams in the top part of the loser’s bracket which made for a nice day for them.

They went undefeated to win their 4th tournament of 2026 and secure a nice 176 point lead over Juno Athletics/LSR (NJ-Major) in the points standings. Resmondo knocked off JPS/No Pressure/Blane Dunn Const. (AR-B) 28-12 in the semifinals, DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD (IN-Major) 36-33 with Andy Purcell pitching for Dan Smith in the winner’s final, and then they beat Dan Smith again 45-44 in the bottom of the 7th in the championship. This time Faron Fry was pitching for Dan Smith. MVP Travis Clark, the Resmondo pitcher, was 15-17, .882 with 6 HR and 11 RBI. They used the Dudley Hardcore ball and most of the games were played in the stadium with its 310-335-380-335-310 field dimensions.

Golden State Results & Bracket Link

The annual Golden State Major began on Friday, May 15th with 15 men’s teams from 5 different states and 6 of the teams were from Conference USSSA. They used the Dudley Classic M ball and many of the games were played in 100 degree heat at the Big League Dreams in Palm Springs, California. All 6 of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Conference teams advanced to the quarterfinals Friday night. Bay Area Legends (CA-A) who was the #1 seed and had a bye in the 1st round, beat Bad Hombres (CA-B) 29-14. GREINERT – KOVAL – BAF (MD-A) beat R1/WWS/JJ sports (CO-B) by the same score 29-14 setting up the ‘A’ vs ‘A’ match on Saturday between Bay Area and Greinert. In the lower half of the winner’s bracket GTL/Legacy/Dirty (WA-B) run ruled Desert Heat Auto (AZ-B) 36-8 as Justin Waldher went 5-5 with 3 HR and 9 RBI, Wilkyns Jimenez went 5-5, and Blake Madewell went 4-4 with 4 runs scored. And rounding out the evening A&M/DavisTrucking/SupremeThreads/BC (CA-B) knocked off CutThroat/ImpactEdge/CourseyRealty (WA-B) 29-24.

The semifinals were played at 11 AM Saturday, where Bay Area Legends won the battle of ‘A’ teams 37-33 over Greinert and GTL knocked off A&M 30-26 after taking a 28-14 lead. For GTL Austin Breer, Joe Acevedo, and Justin Waldher were each on base 5 times and Brian Atchison drove in 7 runs. In a high scoring winner’s final at 4 PM central time, GTL – the home team, got out to a 23-17 on Bay Area Legends after 3 complete innings. Neither team used all of their 12 allotted home runs and GTL separated in the bottom of the 6th scoring 10 runs on 4 homers and ended up winning 39-29 without having to hit in the bottom of the 7th. The loser’s bracket had a run by R1 who won 3 games to finish tied for 5th. And Desert Heat won 3 straight including a 38-36 win over CutThroat and a 36-35 win over Greinert to finish 4th. Saturday evening then, A&M knocked off R1 19-18, Desert Heat 42-32, and Bay Area Legends 44-42 to make it to the championship. In the championship A&M, who was basically on the field almost the whole day, scored in every inning and forced the “if” game against GTL 32-29. As the time crept past midnight, the “if” game started and both teams scored 11 runs in the 1st inning. Then around 12:50 AM the sprinkler system came on and nobody at the park knew how to turn it off and the game was called a draw with GTL and A&M splitting 1st place.

2026 Golden State Bracket and Team List Links

The Golden State Major is this coming Friday and Saturday in Palm Springs, California at the Big League Dreams park.  It features a field of 15 men’s teams from 5 different states with 6 of the teams being from Conference USSSA.  Bay Area Legends (CA-A) and GREINERT – KOVAL – BAF (MD-A) are the highest classified teams in the event and will be the favorites. But there are 9 other ‘B’ teams including CutThroat/ImpactEdge/CourseyRealty (CA-B) who should factor into the final 4 teams late Saturday night. Bay Area and Greinert are on the same side of the bracket which makes things even more interesting. The men’s tournament starts on Friday at 4:30 PM pacific time and they finish on Saturday night. 1st place will earn 180 + (6 x 4) = 204 points. The weather looks warm.

There is also a 5 team Women’s Conference tournament at the BLD. Eat It/TSA/GearfromZ/GS (CA-A) and Superior/Coastline Sportswear/H10T (CA-A) are the favorites. That tournament begins and ends on Saturday with the winner receiving 192 points.

Conference USSSA returned to Mid America Ballyard in Cincinnati, Ohio for the first time since 2022. While they were gone the park put in artificial turf in the infields and moved the center field fences back to 310/320. They used the Dudley Pro-M ball stamped “Vietnam” for the winner’s bracket and Sunday games. And they used the Pro-M “China” ball as well as the GSL Worth Gold Dot ball in the loser’s bracket for the most part. The cooler than normal 40-60 degree temperatures in combination with some really good balls made for record high scoring and resulted in most teams reaching their home run limits throughout the tournament. On Friday night the 27 teams from 15 different states began at 4 PM with a number of “play in” games.

WestPoint (IN-AA) scored double digit innings in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th innings to beat Nature Boys / MSGA Sports (OH-B) 49-26 as Steve Hendrickson went 7-7 with 2 triples and 5 runs scored.

SAL-8/PHP/BAF (VA-A) came from behind to beat Fishers/All Hustle/Leacock Sports (PA-B) 29-26 when Fisher’s used up all of their home runs early in the game eventhough Sal-8 struggled in a number of bases loaded situations.

BeHappy/StandardPlumbing (AZ-AA) beat Ashco Exteriors/Owls (IL-C) 48-29 in 5 innings after scoring 22 on 7 home runs in the top of the 1st inning and adding 15 more runs in the top of the 2nd. Blake Lively, Danny Higa, Matt Brady, Drew Hall, Richard Rollice, and Justin Lutheran were all 6-7 in the win and Brady and Lutheran drove in 12 runs each.

Primetime/Marucci/Ballhawk (GA-A) run ruled Fly’s Guys/RDH/Gapper Apparel (OH-C) 43-22 in 5 innings shutting out Fly’s Guys in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. Robert Banks for Primetime was 5-6 with 5 extra base hits and 10 RBI in the win.

Stars / Squared Away Colorado (CO-B) scored 11 in the top of the 3rd and beat Chop Shop/Prime Threadz/RFM/Toxon (IN-B) 28-21 in 7 innings as 3 hitter Robert Turner and 4 hitter Parker Strader each went 5-5.

In the lower half of the bracket “play in” games Crown Athletics (IN-C) scored 10 in the bottom of the 1st and 15 in the bottom of the 4th to upset and run rule the “new” Anarchy/Drawbridge/Selfmade (MI-A) team 37-22. Crown was led by leadoff hitter Jake Franklin the pitcher who was 6-6 with 5 runs scored, Brian Bush who was 5-5 with 7 RBI, Justin Aldora who was 5-5, and Kelbey Ball who was 5-5 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. I call them the “new” Anarchy team because this is the SNI Conference team that picked up the pieces after SNI folded.

Bay Area Legends (CA-A) beat Wellman/PrintWave/Steveway/OddSox (OH-C) 41-24 over on the shorter field #3.

DIRTY VEGAS / #TeamDawn (TX-A) out lasted Stauffer Sports/Winning Tree/Grzy (OH-C) 29-22 after both teams scored in every inning and DV jumped out to a 21-7 lead. Outfielder Donald Hollingsworth was 5-5 on base in the game and Nick Canfield drove in 6 runs.

ACS/Easton (FL-A) separated in the 3rd and 4th innings scoring 21 runs in those two frames to beat Sportsco/Diamond Merch (OH-C) 34-19 by the 5 inning run rule, leaving them on the field. ACS was led by Dalton Allen 5-6 and Taye Larry 5-5.

Worshams/HM/S&E/Demarini/RedAthlete (NC-AA) scored 12 runs in the bottom of the 4th to leave TSC/Pinnacle Contracting (IN-C) on the field 29-9. Josh Fyffe, Joe Boland, and Casey Scoggins were all 4-4 in the victory.

And Tafn/GoSports/PrimeThreadz (MI-B) scored 11 in the bottom of the 1st and 13 in the bottom of the 3rd to beat Combat MFG (OK-B) 30-21 in 7 innings, shutting out Combat in the 3rd, 6th, and 7th innings.

The “Round of 16” began at 7 PM Friday night in even cooler conditions. Westpoint scored 28 runs on 12 home runs (limit 16) in the top of the 2nd against DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD (IN-Major) and Gavin Lambright at pitcher held Dan Smith in check early on. But Dan Smith scored 12 in the bottom of the 2nd, 13 in the bottom of the 3rd, 17 in the bottom of the 4th, including grand slams from Tyler Ervine and Josh Riley to go with some great defense by shortstop Joe Joe Bennett and 2nd baseman Faron Fry. In the bottom of the 5th needing 5 to end it by the run rule, Dan Smith scored 6 finishing off Westpoint on a Brandon Yoder 2 run homer to win 49-33. Arlis Miller, Jeremy Fry, Tyler Ervine, Austyn Dawe, Anthony Acevedo, Tyler Storey, Ryan Harvey, and Faron Fry were all either 5-6 or 5-5 in the game as the team hit all 16 home runs and added in 10 doubles.

ShoreOL/CheapSuits/Str8play/Rebel (CA-Major) jumped all over SAL-8 scoring 19 in the bottom of the 1st and 20 in the bottom of the 2nd to win 43-20 in 3.5 innings. Mark Wik was 4-4 but pulled a muscle, and Chad Erickson was 5-5 in the win.

BeHappy exploded for 15 runs in both the top of the 5th and 6th innings to run rule Primetime 47-18. Blake Lively, Joel Sanchez, Richard Rollice, and Kyle Johnson were all 6-7. Rollice and Johnson hit for the cycle.

I-57 Roofing/Beloli SIS/All Hustle (IL-AA) the #1 seed continued their successful run on 300 foot fields by knocking off Stars 40-21.

In the lower half of the bracket Juno Athletics/LSR (NJ-Major) run ruled Crown Athletics 42-9.

Dirty Vegas scored 12 in the top of the 1st, and 21 in the top of the 2nd, while Bay Area Legends scored 20 runs in the bottom of the 4th to get back in the game. With both teams out of home runs (12), DV put up 4 straight zero’s while Bay Area put up 3 straight zero’s. Dirty Vegas then scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning and held Bay Area to 3 as Bay Area hit 3 HRO’s in the final inning and DV won 48-46. Donald Hollingsworth was on base 8-8 and Daniel Larson drove in 10 runs in the win.

Worshams put up the highest run total of the night scoring 54 runs to beat ACS 54-38 in 7 innings. Worshams scored 14 in the top of the 1st and 19 in the top of the 2nd. David Chabut was 7-7 with 9 RBI and 7 runs scored in the win.

And in the final game of the night #2 seeded Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-RDD-S&S-LLC- (FL-Major) put away Tafn 34-13 in 4 innings scoring 11 in the bottom of the 2nd and 13 in the bottom of the 3rd. Jason Matusik and Daniel Cayton were each on base 4-4 as Resmondo hit 8 doubles, 2 triples, and 12 HR in 4 times at bat.

Quarterfinals Recap

Shore OL pitcher Kyle Center snaps off Josh Riley to beat his old team on the last play!

On Saturday the quarterfinals played at 11:30 AM and 1:15 PM. There was still a chill in the air and the fields continued to play really short. First was a matchup between two major teams, Shore OL and Dan Smith, over on field #4. Shore trailed 9-7 after one inning but scored 16 in both the top of the 2nd and 3rd innings, taking advantage of Dan Smith infield misplays, to go up 39-12. Dan Smith extended the game and avoided the run rule in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings but could never fully catch up as Shore won 46-41. Dan Smith still had 3 home runs left in the bottom of the 7th. John Radich led the way getting on base 7-7, Brandon Streets 6-6, and Joey Capparelli hit 4 home runs and drove in 9..

In quarterfinal #2, I-57 Roofing jumped out to a 22-7 lead on BeHappy in a battle of ‘AA’ teams. But BeHappy scored 20 on 9 home runs in the top of the 4th to take a 27-22 lead. I-57 grabbed back the lead in the bottom of the 5th and held BeHappy to just 4 runs the rest of the game to edge out a 34-31 win. Jeff Roxby was 5-5 in the win.

In Q3 Resmondo made quick work of Worshams, scoring 17 runs in the bottom of the 1st. Then when Worshams scored just 3 in the top of the 4th, Resmondo walked them down scoring 10 runs to win by the 20 run mercy rule 37-17. Jason Matusik who was hitting some nasty knuckling home runs was 5-5 with 10 RBI while Travis Clark, Daniel Cayton, and Cincinnati native Brad Reckart each went 5-5 for Resmondo.

In the last quarterfinal game, Dirty Vegas scored 21 runs on 8 home runs in the top of the 1st inning against Juno. Juno came in to bat and Flip flew out, Connell singled, and John Williams hit a 2 run homer. And that was it. Juno didn’t score a run for the rest of the game? Dirty Vegas added 10 more in the top of the 2nd, 7 more in the top of the 3rd, and held Juno scoreless to win in 3 innings 38-2! Donald Hollingsworth was again on base 4-4 which made him 17-17 to start the tournament.

Final 4 Recap

Shore OL’s Carlos Abrigo hits a long homer on the show field vs I-57 Roofing.

The semifinals were played around 5 PM Saturday. Resmondo was locked in a slugfest with Dirty Vegas who has played the higher level teams tough all year long. Dirty Vegas scored 15 in the top of the 1st. Resmondo matched it with 15 in the bottom of the 1st. Dirty Vegas then scored 15 in the top of the 2nd. Resmondo 8. Dirty Vegas with 3 homers left then put up a zero in the top of the 3rd. Resmondo scored 17 to take a 40-30 lead and scored 11 more in the bottom of the 4th to win in 6 innings 59-44. Jeremy Yates was on base 8-8, Travis Clark was 7-8 with 11 RBI, and Bradley Jones was 7-8 with 10 RBI in the win. Resmondo hit 17 doubles, a triple, and 16 home runs in the game.

Meanwhile on the show field it was Shore OL and I-57 Roofing. Shore got out to a 13-12 lead (7-3 on HR) in the 1st. The defenses got involved in this one early as I-57 1st baseman Nick Perkins made a nice pick of a hard shot, center fielder Josh Kirsten made a great running catch, and Shore OL got an outfield assist. In the bottom of the 4th I-57 pitcher Mitch Carriger stabbed a liner to end the inning up 38-28 and 11-13 on home runs. In the top of the 6th I-57 used their last two homers on 3 run shots and they ended up run ruling Shore OL 45-30 when Shore managed just 1 run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Josh Kirsten and Adam Ussery were each 6-6 on base.

The winner’s final then was a matchup of the previous weeks championship between I-57 Roofing and Resmondo. This game was a little bit slower starting as both teams tried to “play the game” and preserve home runs but it was still 13-9 I-57 after 2 innings. I-57 then opened it up in the top of the 3rd scoring 10 runs and they scored 18 more in the top of the 4th after holding Resmondo to 1. So going into the bottom of the 4th, I-57 led 41-10. Resmondo scored 15 runs in that bottom of the 4th to extend the game but I-57 pushed for the run rule again in the 5th and this time finished off the game 46-29. I-57 peppered the 300-305-320-305-300 foot fence multiple times and Laser Dave Johnson himself hit the fence 4 times! Johnson 6-7, Roxby 6-7, and Ussery 6-6 led the offense.

Loser’s Bracket Recap

Saturday night in the 5th place game, Shore OL takes on Juno.

The loser’s bracket played out all day long on Saturday with some of the highest scores in 300 foot field/home run limit/Conference History. In the top half of the loser’s bracket ACS and Fishers made small runs before Dan Smith and BeHappy dropped down and beat them. Then Dan Smith knocked off BeHappy 44-40 on a walk off grand slam by Faron Fry. That moved Dan Smith into the 5th place game at 8 pm Saturday night against Dirty Vegas. In that game Dan Smith scored 17 in the top of the 1st, 11 in the 4th, 22 in the 5th, and 10 in the 7th to beat Dirty Vegas 78-63! Both teams hit all 16 home runs. Dirty Vegas had a 27 run inning in the 4th and a 19 run inning in the 5th. Dan Smith out hit DV 80-58 while DV out walked Dan Smith 13-6. For Dan Smith, Austyn Dawe was 10-10 with 12 RBI. And for Dirty Vegas Travis Tucker was 7-10 with 13 RBI and Ben Dunn was 8-10 with 14 RBI. In the bottom half of the loser’s bracket Primetime and Anarchy each made small runs before Juno and Worshams dropped down and sent them home. Most of the scores in the loser’s bracket were 40 runs or more to win. Then Juno beat Worshams 44-27 and run ruled Shore OL 42-27 to make it to Sunday.

Sunday Recap

Juno’s Greg Connell lines a double against Dan Smith in the 4th place game.

On Sunday morning there was frost on the ground and 40 degree temperatures to start the 4th place game at 8 AM. The game lasted over 2.5 hours as Juno and Dan Smith slugged it out in the cold. Juno had a little too much for Dan Smith even playing without starting pitcher Mason Farmer (foot) and Juno beat Dan Smith 55-42. Then in the loser’s final Juno went at it for 2.5 hours with Resmondo. Resmondo led 13-6 after one inning but Juno scored 18 in the top of the 3rd making Resmondo pay for errors, and 16 in the top of the 4th. Resmondo answered with 12 in the bottom of the 4th and going into the 7th Juno and Resmondo were tied with Resmondo having the only home run left out of 16. Juno hit too many HRO’s in the game and Resmondo caught them. In the top of the 7th, Juno got a triple from Cody Herring, a single from John Williams, a pinch hit single from Mason Farmer, and a walk from Filip Washington before making 3 straight outs, scoring just 2 runs. In the bottom of the 7th Steele Lewis homered to start the inning, Resmondo’s last. Then after a ground out, Brad Reckart singled, Heath Barnes doubled, Marshburn walked, and Travis Clark hit a walk off 2 run single to win it 53-52! Juno infielders had a couple of tough chances that could have won the game for them. Travis Clark was 8-8 and Tyler Marshburn 7-8 with 4 HR and 14 RBI in the win. Resmondo again had 30 extra base hits.

The championship took place in the afternoon under beautifully sunny skies between two hardnosed teams, and it was an instant classic (if you like smash mouth softball). Both teams came out of the gate “playing the game” and preserving home runs. Resmondo 11 on 3 and I-57 12 on 1. In the top of the 2nd I-57 middle infielder Jeff Roxby made a pair of sweet defensive plays to hold Resmondo to 2 runs and I-57 came in and scored 8 on 4 to go up 20-13. Both teams scored in every inning in this game. I-57 got a bases loaded double play to hold Resmondo to 6 runs in the top of the 3rd. Both teams scored double digits in the 4th. But Resmondo took over in the top of the 7th down 43-40, they scored 13 on their last 4 home runs, hitting mostly doubles and triples to go up 53-43. I-57 wasn’t done though and put up 6 on 2 and had 2 home runs left down 4 with 1 out when they grounded into a double play to end the game. Resmondo had forced the “if” game 53-49. Jason Matusik was 7-8, hit for the cycle, and drove in 8 runs and Brad Reckart had 10 RBI in the win.

In the “IF” game Everett Williams from Resmondo had to leave for his flight. And for I-57 Jordan Spaulding had to leave during the game for his. Early on Resmondo’s Tyler Marshburn lined a shot off I-57 pitcher Ian Heizers foot, injuring him (out 3 weeks). And any wind I-57 had left in their sails deflated. Resmondo scored 15 in the 1st, got out to a 29-3 lead, and won in 4 innings 37-14. MVP Travis Clark was 6-6 with 5 walks and Phil Matte who hadn’t played much due to offseason surgery was forced into action and drove in 10 runs in the win. It was Resmondo’s 3rd tournament win of the season!

The conditions with the cool weather, the ultra good softballs, and the sand instead of rubber pellet turf, made it tough on infielders. Pitcher’s and infielders were hit by line drives, scores were a new record for average score per 7 innings, and USSSA banned the Dudley Pro-M Vietnam ball after the tournament.

The Conference was off for Mother’s Day weekend (THANK YOU USSSA!) and will be in action again the weekend of May 15-17 in Palm Springs at the Golden State Major.

At least from my angle, Olivera did appear to be in play on that foul ball catch. And Perkins did appear to tag the runner below. Both calls correct.

Long Bomber of the Week!

The Long Bomber of the Week was Resmondo’s Jason Matusik who hit a creature on Friday night and then that crazy knuckling line smash homer vs Worsham on Saturday. Bubba Mack mentioned that on the show field it was very rare in his 15 years of playing at Mid America Ballyard that a player would hit one over the mound which is 400 feet away. But players were routinely hitting it over the hill in almost every game in this tournament.

Cincinnati Results and Awards

MVP – Resmondo Pitcher Travis Clark won his 2nd MVP of the year.

Defensive MVP – Resmondo shortstop Tyler Marshburn who adjusted to the sand pellet turf better than everyone else.

Offensive MVP – I-57 Roofing’s Adam Ussery – 21-22 .955, 6 HR, 19 RBI

1st Place – Resmondo-SIS-Stub Term-S&S-LLC-

FL-Major  Record  6-1 

Resmondo has persevered under many different conditions this year to win 3 tournaments. This was their first out right 300 foot tournament win since the fall of 2024 in Kansas City. Reckart and Clark shared the pitching duties. All of the players seemed to take turns getting hot offensively and defensively. Matte was used sparingly as he recovers from offseason surgery. Bubba Mack pulled a muscle in batting practice and was out. KP23’s wife was coaching fastpitch in the state tournaments so he wasn’t there and Quincy Lattimore was coaching high school baseball. So it was a next man up weekend for Resmondo and they came through.

Phil Matte got his first action of the year.

2nd Place – I-57 Roofing/Beloli SIS/All Hustle

IL-AA  Record  4-2 

I-57 Roofing continues to be one of the best, if not the best, 300 foot team. They are good at fielding those rock hard balls and also keeping them in the park on offense. Pitchers Carriger and Heizer were injured in this tournament, hit by line drives. Jeff Roxby continues to be a player of the year candidate on both sides of the ball. I-57 gets a much needed month off.

3rd Place – Juno Athletics/LSR

NJ-Major  Record  5-2 

Juno HRO’d their way out of the game vs Resmondo in the loser’s final and had that offensive outage vs Dirty Vegas in the winner’s bracket. Pitcher Mason Farmer was hit in the foot and injured Saturday night. So they have some inconsistency, but they did beat Shore OL and Dan Smith.

4th Place – DanSmith/Proton/Thunder/RoofX/RF/BD

IN-Major  Record  4-2 

Another rough weekend for Dan Smith. They came from behind to beat WestPoint. Lost to Shore OL in the quarterfinals. Won that crazy 78-63 game over Dirty Vegas, but then lost to Juno Sunday morning in the cold. Andrew Collins basically didn’t play, coaches decision. The pitching and infield defense has been suspect. And after the tournament Dan Smith picked up the GOAT – Andy Purcell to pitch the rest of the year. They coaxed Andy out of his 3 year retirement.

More Teams

Shore OL had that big grudge match win over Dan Smith in the quarterfinals but finished 5th losing to Juno Saturday night.

Dirty Vegas continues to be the top ‘A’ team in the Conference and were permitted to pick up Brandon Traylor after the tournament?

BeHappy has had a slow start to the year. Will be interesting to see if they can get things going in Phoenix.

Worsham is another ‘AA’ team who is having a slow start to the year.
