SO LONG 2011

Had you told me this time last year I would be out of work for 11 months and counting, I would have said you were a dirty lie lol 

2011 has been a truly trying year.  It has not been the worst year for me but it has been FAR from the best not even close to the best lol.  Many of my friends feel the say way, this recession has been EXTREMELY trying for most of us… if you have not been unemployed you are doing the job of 5-10 people, with no thanks, less money and more drama and your reward is ooh be happy you have a job… FOH with that BS….sorry you stressing me out, effecting my health and sanity is not something I am going to be uber excited to do day in day out.  

2011 has been a year of change and reflection for me.  I have come to realize the industry I have loved for almost 20 years and I am good at, it not the place for me any more…. So back to school I plan to go so I can do something different with the next phase of my life.  Its scary and strange and lets face it…. its change and most of us dont like change….. 

Masonry wise  I made some changes, big changes.  I have moved my memberships closer to home, it broke my heart to do it.  I was comfy there and I knew a lot of the ins and outs but it was beyond time for me to go for MANY MANY reasons.  Thanks to the support of a few sisters and brothers the change was smooth.  I will miss my first masonic family in DC, but I am just a call, email, or text away if you need my support. 

On the plus side my health is better…. woohoo lol my blood pressure is normal… who would have thought it….

I am looking forward the next chapter of this book called like Life….

This is something that has baffled me for a few months.  It seems to be all the rage to have clothes that are 2 sizes too small, and think that shat is HOT!!!! 

Did I miss a memo? When did this become acceptable attire? 

Don’t get me wrong I am a curvy chick, a fluffy diva, but my clothes fit me properly with or without some foundation garments to help me out.  If an item does not fit me, no matter how much i might want it or want to wear it, i am not going to wear it on my body outside the house. 

I was on a plus sized blogger’s page and she did a really cute post about a dress she found for rock bottom prices… which was great the dress was cute, she is cute, but the dress is at least 2 sizes too small on her…. whoa…. I looked in utter disbelieve that she

1. bought this dress

2. Wore it out the house 

3. and posted that fraggle nackle bs on her blog like it was the hottness….

I know blogging is subjective but er um, when did clothing choking off your circulation become whats hot?!

I see it on the streets of Baltimore all the time, bellies sticking out from under shirt that are too small, the imprint of where your belly button used to be, fat spilling out from the tops of your jeans, ass crack from jeans falling down, the list goes on and on from clothing that is WAY TOO SMALL for that body….

DIVAS!!!! can we make a pact ok….

I, ________(NAME HERE) Will not willfully adorn clothing that is too small for my body size and type.  I will use the proper undergarments, be it bras *that fit correctly*, panties, and a foundation piece or pieces, to help my clothing lay properly on my body.  To look my best and Divalious at all times…..

I do swear and promise….

 lol yes i am sick and twisted but i am serious Divas we need to wear clothing that fits so we can look and feel our best…..

Steve Jobs 1955 – 2011

 I was shocked and sadden yesterday when I was using my ipad saw on Facebook the passing of Steve Jobs.  Steve Jobs has been an influence on my life many folks lives.  As I reflect on what Steve meant to me, I realized that he has a huge impact.  Starting  with the first Apple computers.  If it was not for Apple I dont know if I would love computers the way I do now.

Our first computer in our house was a Commadore 64 and in the tradition of PC computers it has DOS which was more confusing than any thing to me.  I struggled to even like this thing i hated computers when I was younger it was an utter pain in the ass, C/ gave me hives lol.    It was not until 1992 when I went off to college and the Tandy 1000 that my dad gave me died and I had to use the Apple IIe computers in the computer lab that the world of Apple opened up to me.  It was sssssssssssssssooooooooooo easy to use, I didnt have to remember the stupid C/ or any of that other DOS stuff that made me scream in the middle of the night.  As you can guess i was not a computer science major lol

I had to have an Apple computer in my apartment, so i got one, a Power MAC, the first PC compatible MAC.  I loved that computer more than life.  It was impossible to break it and it helped me be the editor of the SGA newsletter.  I had the Power MAC until ’99 when it passed away it was a sad sad day in my house.  I could not afford another apple at that point and bought my first PC.  I have had a PC ever since but i have been dreaming of a MAC Book, but thats another story.

I dont think i would have learned HTML nor the love i have for desktop publishing if it had not been for the Apple IIe that i used 20 years ago.

Apple has made leaps and bounds in how it has changed our world from the iPods how we listen to our music, how the iPhone has changed our phones, and the iPad *my most beloved gadget to date*has changed how we interact with each other.  And Steve Jobs has been at the heart of all of this.  He has changed our world, that is his legacy, he has shown even when you are down you are not out, you can bounce back and reinvent your self.

My heart and prayers are with the Apple family and Steve Jobs family and friends.  He will be missed by the he changed.

VIOLA P. MOORE – My Paternal Grandmother

Grandma or Mommi Vi as some of her grandkids called her was before her time. She knew how to sew, crochet, etc. She was an educator married to an eye doc *my grandfather * my grandmother was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., To give you some back ground info about Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. They were founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. Back to Grandma, was a different kind of woman of color. I believe if she had grown up now she would have been a lawyer and not an educator. She was an english teacher then a librarian, she held both a bachelor’s degree and a masters degree. But to me she was just grandma, the woman i looked up to style and diva wise. She first exposed me to Marshall FieldsField’s is now Macy’s *boo hiss* Any who I HEART Marshall Field’s so much i worked there after college. But Grandma would take me to get some clothes from fields because they would last and were good quality. She stressed quality garments, and the value of investing in good pieces. My family would buy me clothes that would last for years, like a long wool coat that i got from Evans *RIP Evans* and i had it from the age of 16 to the age of 30 when it fell apart, i still have not replaced it lol.

Grandma believed in the whole package from head to foot, that when you step out you look your best, make up done, hair done, nails done, shoes polished. While i strive to follow all of that, she has instilled in me to look my best and be my best at all times. She helped start our family’s love addiction with clothing, accessories and make-up, mind you i am one of the few women in my family lol. My Dad and youngest brother LOVE clothes!!!!!

I am 38 Black Woman, of a very mixed dna mixture, No Kids,never married, but i am dating a great guy and an assistant project manager by day for a construction company. I am a die hard Chicagoan, and an Alumnae of Tuskegee University, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority *whew that was a mouth full*

Thats the basic boring stuff…I was a prissy little girl who’s mom is a TomBoy. It was interesting growing up, my Mom made sure i knew how to play sports and change a flat tire, my Dad made sure i knew how to fight. They both encouraged me to grow up and be what i could be and never let the fact that i was black or a woman stand in my way.

But there was something really interesting with me and my Mom. She is a die hard TomBoy. Now she wears dresses but getting all dolled up is not her thing, but it was mine.

I have been a budding fashion diva since i can remember. One of my fondest memories is going shopping for my Easter outfit. Which consisted of a bomb diva dress The dress was the start, it was usually pink or red or purple the 3 colors i lived by as a kid, still do today. Then you had to find the right shoes Patten Leather was/is one of my favorite materials for shoes and bags…. i would have the matching shoes usually black or white and of course the coordinating bag and of course your thinking thats it right? No not for Vonetta, i had the anklets, gloves and hat to match

While i miss the days of me getting a new easter and christmas dress *yes i got a new one for each with all the bells and whistles that go with it* I do not do the matchy matchy thing any more lol

But cant you see the start of a young fashion diva, make-up was a whole different ball of wax lol

1. I am an extremely picky eater, the biggest are I do not like Eggs or Cheese, they are deal breakers with me.  I rather go hungry than eat them, with the except of pizza and cheesecake thats it.

2. I have an addiction to Coach handbags well every thing Coach.  I have been collecting them since I was 16 and I still have all my bags I refuse to give them away.

3. I am a pack rat, yes sad but true I don’t quite need Clean House yet but er um I am getting there, ssshhh don’t tell no body lol

4. I DO NOT MISS Corporate America maybe in a couple of months I will miss it but today I don’t I am much Happier Changing the World One Woman at a time with Mary Kay.

5.  I miss my college years a whole lot, life was so much simpler then.

AHHHH SPRING!!!

I just love the Cherry Blossoms…..

I have a love hate relationship with Spring, while I welcome the warmer temps and the lack of snow, I am ssooo allergic to the “air” Spring is just miserable in the Spring… but this is not the point of my blog today. Today its all about that shoe game….

One of the ladies on my yahoo group DCSG, NIC,  inspired this blog post, check her blog out she posted a UBER HAUT pair of shoes, in the yahoo group… it got me to thinking its time to clean out my shoe closet again and get some haut shoes for Spring.

I have been trolling the stores online for some new shoe ideas….Ladies you know when you feel bad or blue a pair of hot sexy shoes can make you feel oh so better….. So here are a few picks I want

These are to DIE for…OMG but with a $750 price tag all I can do is drool…. but if I win the lottery… they are mine

These BCBG shoes are perfect for spring with a cute Spring dress and with a $110 price tag I can see adding these to my collection

Another cream pair of shoes these are Michael Kors $120 they would look great paired with a dress/skirt or a pair of slacks they also come in black…

While i don’t wear a lot of black in the Spring these are a great staple these can go with just about any thing…And i need a new pair of black pumps…Guess $59

I Heart these shoes…they inspire me to look for a new Easter dress and hat for Easter… I feel a new blog post coming… lol DSW $80

Downsized but Not Out!!!!!!!!!!

At the start of the year I challenged myself to blog once a week, and 4 days after that I was downsized out of my job.

I have gone back and forth weather or not I would reveal this on my blog, as you can tell I have decided to tell it lol, I got sick for almost 3 weeks after being let go and this is the first week I feel human again, I figured since I have named the blog Confessions of a Cute Curvy girl I could confess this, no shame, no anger, just excitement.

While being downsized and out of work was a bit of a shock at first but I knew my time was coming.  I did not shed a tear, I calmly left and felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders.  I am not sorry that it happen, I honestly think it is for the best.  So I can now chase after a few dreams that i have while I look for a new job.

One thing i am doing is restarting my Mary Kay Biz…. Yes Ladies and Gents i am your friendly Mary Kay Lady *i know you all are so excited lol*

I will also be blogging more because now i have the time…. I know God has something amazing in store for me and 2011 will be the best year yet for me.

Yesterday was a lazy Sunday for me.  I was cleaning out my pile of mags for the past 2 years *yes 2 years shaddup * pulling out items for my memory boards I plan to have completed by this Sunday coming up.

So I was in my bed watching TV.  If there is no good movie on I will vegg out and watch Reality TV.  Sunday being my wedding/bridal guilty pleasure TV watching.  I love Say Yes to the Dress and Bridezilla.  Now Bridezilla is over the top and they are usually extremely low budget, but its like a train wreck I have to watch.  The more I watched both of these shows *flipping back and forth* I came to realize that Reality TV has given folks a license to behave badly and we watch it and love it.

When did it become ok to just act a pure unadulterated ass on TV?!

Its not just Bridezilla *which airs on Oxygen* But 90% of reality TV has some body acting an ass every week.  From the Housewives series on Bravo to America’s Next Top Model on the CW to Girls Behaving Badly…. These folks are out of control and America is eating it up.

While I admit I like reality tv and I watch some of it have grown weary of watching people act out for the sake of acting out, over a wedding, a dress, or some other petty bullshit that has invaded their senselessly vapid lives.

I became rather annoyed and popped in a dvd because I could not take the constant tirade of bullshit from these low rent women who cried and begged and cussed out and pleaded and berated their way all in the name of “Its MY WEDDING, ITS MY DAY” mentality.  God Bless the men who want to marry them…I cant see it.

People we have got to do better.  What kind of example are we setting forth for the children?  That you act an ass you get on TV and get to act a bigger ass?!

We as a society have really reached the gutter of humanity we need to pull ourselves out and check our selves….
