Paul is humbly asking of God spiritual blessings for his brothers and sisters in Christ, the Ephesians. These blessings are something that can be prayed for by everyone of us, both for ourselves, and for others around us. We too can seek to be rooted and grounded in His love, and ask for strength from the Spirit of God in our inner most parts, strength of the soul, strength of faith, strength to serve and persevere through our calling as Christians, husbands/wives, fathers/mothers, sons/daughters, and friends.

Having Christ dwell in our hearts drastically changes our outlook, our priorities, and places our focus on the eternal. Trying to comprehend the immeasurable dimensions of God’s riches in Christ is just too much for me to understand. The closest thing I can come to here on earth for understanding Christ’s love for me is the love I feel for my children.

As a mother, and wife, all this talk of spiritual blessings doesn’t end with me. My family is immediately brought to my forefront thoughts. And my charge as a mother is to impart these things into the hearts of my children.

Something we recently shared with our children during our family devotion time was Proverbs 4:1-13.

Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding; 2 For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.3 When I was my father’s son, tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, 4 he also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. 5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. 9 She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you.” 10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And the years of your life will be many. 11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. 12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble. 13 Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life.

Just as King David passed on wisdom to Solomon, and Solomon passed it on to his sons, so are we to pass on knowledge to our own children. I know you’ve all read it before, but as homeschoolers it’s never been more important to remember our calling. We are to show our children God’s path, and His way of wisdom. We need to be Godly examples in our home, and in the Word daily with our children.

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” ~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7

When my husband and are gone and our children remain, we want to make sure that we’ve left them a spiritual legacy that will guide them. We want them to be in the habit of going to the Word first when trials arise. We want them to know the way of wisdom, how to seek God’s will, and how to stay in right paths so that when they walk, they will not be hindered, and when they run, they will not stumble. We want them to be filled with all the fullness of God so they may truly know the love of Christ which passes knowledge.

It’s a tall order, no?

Parenthood isn’t an easy calling, and neither is the call to teach our children at home, but thankfully we have a place to turn. If we’re feeling like we can’t measure up, or that we aren’t good enough, it’s okay. It is His power at work in us, not our own. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think!

I’d like to encourage you to take some time today to pray spiritual blessings over your children. If you’re at a loss for words, pray through Paul’s prayer below, you can’t ever go wrong praying through the Word of God!

Ephesians 3:14-21

Appreciation of the Mystery

14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,[a] 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

If you have fallen behind, don’t fret, it’s not too late! You’ve just read the 6th week of verses above, so start fresh this week and commit to spend time in the Word each day! You will be blessed for any time you give to the Lord, so don’t sell yourself short, or condemn yourself for not keeping up! Each day is a new opportunity to start fresh and dig into the Word to see what God has for you!

<a

Louisiana is also known for its many bayous, slow moving streams or rivers, which flow across the state. Crawfish, shrimp, shellfish, catfish and alligators can all be found in the bayous of Louisiana! The weather there is hot and humid in summer, with occasional snow in winter.

Located Louisiana on our All About Learning. It’s been a consistent favorite of mine for almost 2 years now! I know you all love it too, so I have a special treat for you today!

In honor of last week and Valentine’s day, I wanted to share a little love with you all! So….drum roll please…I’m hosting a very SPECIAL giveaway for All About Learning today!

But before we move on, I wanted to clear a few things up! In my curriculum post I noted that I was using All About Spelling, All About Reading, and Abeka worksheets. I’ve since received several emails asking if I thought I needed to supplement.

Just for the record, NO! I do not think AAS & AAR need any type of supplement! I simply have Tinkerbell working on the Abeka worksheets because I had them already and I just have a thing about wasting curriculum! Plus I figure it can’t do any harm to do a little extra work right?

But all that said, I truly love All About Learning products, and we’ve had great success with the All About Reading Level 1 and All About Spelling Level 1.

I’ve also had several questions regarding the difference between the two products.

The Level 1 of both AAS and AAR have a similar scope and sequence. All About Reading will focus on decoding skills, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and will include lots and lots of reading practice, while All About Spelling focuses on the spelling side of things–how to know which letter to choose for a given sound. Both are complete phonics programs and use the same letter tiles.

All About Reading has lots and lots of fluency exercises that help strengthen reading skills. These can be helpful for a child who has already done AAS 1 but needs more practice to read smoothly. It’s fine to go quickly through some of the beginning lessons until you reach the lessons that are more challenging for a student.

Here is Tinker Bell working on one of the reading worksheets. To the right you’ll see the “Feed the Monster” game. This one was a favorite! First she colored a monster, then cut out a bunch of word cards to feed to him. She picked one card at a time, and if she read the card correctly she got to feed it to the monster.

Another favorite hands on All About Reading activity we did was the egg fry. First we colored in the yokes of our eggs, then used a spatula to flip them over and read the words on the other side. This one was so exciting that the Teeny Tot immediately confiscated the spatula and eggs and played the game for the rest of our school time!

<a

He refers to himself as the “least of all the saints”. I mean just think about where he’s come from. All the way from getting saved on that road on his way to persecute Christians, to imprisonment for his fervent faith. What a turn around, and what a great example for our lives as well. I’m sure many of you have great testimonies of what God has done in your lives!

I’ve been so abundantly blessed by all that God has done in my life, but yet somehow it’s easy to forget and get discouraged in the daily grind. I think about where Paul came from, and what he’s endured for his faith and my trials are NOTHING compared to that! But then still I can get overwhelmed and down-trodden anyway. If I’m not in the Word and in prayer regularly, I forget to live boldly for my faith, and ultimately begin to doubt God’s plan for me! These verses remind me that whatever our trials are, we can overcome them because He has given His life for us, paid our ransom, and bears all of our burdens.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~ Matthew 11:30

Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. ~ Ephesians 3:13

Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken. ~ Psalm 55:22

The mystery revealed in this weeks reading is really no mystery at all, its just hard for some to accept. We feel unworthy, that we could never measure up. Let me tell you that on your own you can’t measure up. BUT thankfully we aren’t expected to be enough on our own! We were given a savior! Jesus loves you, He died for you, and He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness if you just seek Him.

Think back to Paul and the direction he had chosen for his life. He was literally persecuting Christians and in turn Jesus. It doesn’t get much worse then that, yet the Lord saved him, then used him greatly! And Paul was humble enough to repent, seek forgiveness, and then be open to be used mightily! My beloved, that is our encouragement to continue on, and persevere!

So no matter where we may find ourselves today… “let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~ Hebrews 12:1-2

The Mystery Revealed

3 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power.

Purpose of the Mystery

8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. 13 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

If you haven’t started the study yet, it’s not too late! You’ve just read the 5th week of verses above, so start fresh this week and commit to spend time in the Word each day! You will be blessed for any time you give to the Lord, so don’t sell yourself short, or condemn yourself for not keeping up! Each day is a new opportunity to start fresh and dig into the Word to see what God has for you!

Ephesians study! You know, I had a crazy week over here! Between a massive snow storm and some very sick kiddos and 1 sick husband, I fell a little behind in my reading. I kept thinking to myself “why am I feeling so crazy? Everything is total chaos, what is going on!” Finally it dawned on me that between taking care of everyone, making sure we had enough supplies if we got snowed in, getting people to doctors, giving medicine on time, yada yada, that I didn’t do my daily reading for a couple days!

I decided that even in the midst the chaos I needed to make time for God even if I didn’t feel like I had any to give. And you know what happened? Ephesians 2:13-15 ~ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Christ Our Peace for He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace…

I love that I’ve been brought near to Him! I am kind of high strung sometimes and though I sometimes forget, He really is my Peace, and it’s so important that we keep up with our study and make time to spend with Him each day! I definitely have better days when I start off in the Word! When I don’t, it seems like chaos reigns all day long in my kids and in me!

One thing we started doing as a family is reading through "Our 24 Family Ways" it’s a daily devotion by Sally Clarkson. I highly recommend it! It’s short, easy to do, and requires no prep! We all just gather by the fire at night right before bed and read through it. They all start with a couple questions, then a verse to read, then some more questions, then a prayer. It’s easy to do and the kids are really understanding it!

I think taking this time with our family, along with my personal time in this study has really helped me gain some peace that was missing! So if you haven’t had time to keep up, or if you’ve fallen behind for one reason or another, don’t beat yourself up! Just pick up your study and start now! You won’t regret it, any time that you spend in the Word will be a blessed one!

<p

It is also known as “The Bluegrass State” due to the vast expanses of Bluegrass across part of the state. They also have underground deposits of limestone which make the bluegrass in Kentucky famous! Also located in Kentucky is the Louisville Slugger Museum where you can go see the world’s largest baseball bat and glove!

Located Kentucky on our

We also add our state to the <a

This helps them to remember what they’re learning as well as keep busy while we’re reading through the information. It’s a great way to get a visual imprint of each states fun facts as well as good for a quick review.

<a

He is known as the founder of French Impressionist painting. Claude’s painting titled Impression-Sunrise, is what gave the Impressionist movement its name. Characteristics of impressionism include small, thin brushstrokes, open composition and an emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities. Monet typically worked on large canvases painting mostly natural landscapes, although he sometimes included human figures in his paintings. He was very particular about his paintings and was known to refuse to paint unless the light of the sun was reflecting exactly as he wanted it to.

If you haven’t seen the previous posts, this year for art we are studying 8 different world famous artists. We have chosen to do art twice a week, and we’ll cover one artist each month. We’re using my <a

We talked about all the different styles that he was known for, and took lots of time to familiarize ourselves with and critically assess his works of art.

<a

Why?

How it makes your student feel looking at it?

Does the use of color help convey mood?

Is there something unusual or unique about the piece of art?

What is going on in the work, is there a story that can be told about it? (Each of them had a few minutes to share their version of what they thought was going on in the story with us.)

What kind of style and medium did the artist use in this work?

Overall do you like the painting, if so yes, why? If no why not?

Strawberry Shortcake has been “deemed” official writer of artist flashcards it seems. She has the best handwriting and we’re actually doing one artist lap book, so they all share in putting it together. Looking back I probably should have let them each do their own lap book, and maybe I still will.

<a
