You guys. Is it just me or do you feel like sometimes we're being tricked? Or tested? Like we're being made fun of! I feel like some designers are getting together (I'm thinking of that scene in Zoolander where all the fashion bad guys are conference calling) saying "Let's make some nasty ass shoes and see how many people will buy them! Bwahahaha!!"

Well, I'm on to you! And I'm not buyin.

Listen I'm not saying I'm the best designer ever and that I don't make shoes that some people find ugly, but these just look intentionally ugly. Am I wrong??

Excuse me. I think I'm gonna be sick.

Behind the Scenes...Photo Shoe-t

I know, I know. Almost a month without posting, I totally suck. I hope you follow my Tumblr because I update that almost daily. It's so convenient.

It's been 10 months and this divorce thing is still really affecting me. I don't know why but I find it hard to do the things I used to love to do. Blogging included. BUT... this isn't a therapy session its a muthafuggin shoe blog so let's get to it!

This last Friday we shot for the new Fall 2012 Cece L'amour and Penny Loves Kenny lines. IT WAS SO AWESOME!! We had a really great team of super talented people and we had a lot of fun. Like, probably more fun than you're supposed to have when you're working ;) We shot it at the beautiful Biltmore hotel in downtown Los Angeles and shot from 10am to close to 10pm. Crazy long day!

I'm no longer designing for bebe. I've handed it off to another designer who's got some great ideas and is going to have a lot of fun with it. I'm now concentrating on my own brand, Cece L'amour... my baby. And a really fun brand named Penny Loves Kenny. We own both of those names and I think it's awesome to be designing for the 2 brands that my father's company actually owns. It's more personal.

Anyway- here's a look behind the scenes...

The best part about these shoots was that I got to use my beautiful friends as models. It's so INSANE that I have actual friends that are this beautiful.

Morocco's Inspiration

Hello friends! If you follow my Tumblr or Instagram you know I've been in Marrakech the past 2 weeks :) I was really inspired by some things I saw around town and in the market and wanted to share...

The Marrakech airport is so beautiful...

So much color and rich detail. It's so awesome to think that this is half of my heritage. But as beautiful as the city is, there is also so much poverty and it's so awesome to realize that my dad came from a small town in Morocco and built this amazing company I now work for.

Anyway, let's see if any of these cool Moroccan details find there way into my upcoming footwear collections. I leave for China tomorrow to start my Spring 2013 shoes! ...always on the go!

If you saw the latest runway shows in Paris last week you might think we'd time warped into the 70s. Chunky heels and platforms, funky shapes and colors, and clashes of pattens all over! Burn your bras and drop some acid. Well, no, don't do that.

What do you think?? Groovy? I'm personally not digging them. I prefer the silhouettes shown last season with nods to the 50's and 60's. More feminine delicate shapes.
Though I will say that I'm glad to see more platforms on the runway again. New York fashion week would have you believe that the platform was dead with all the non-platformed shoes and pointy toe pumps. If you can get a little comfort snuck in with your killer style I'll take it! And we all know a platform is great for adding height without sacrificing comfort.

I'm off to China today kids. Then Tokyo for a quick 2 days. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and let you know what I see in one of my favorite cities in the world!

I'm not a huge Oscar watcher... in fact, I didn't watch the Oscars, I just watched the red carpet pre-show. I just wanted to share some of my favorite looks of the night with you. I have to be honest though, I didn't love very many looks. There were a lot of beautiful women, don't get me wrong! There just wan't a whole lot of wow.

But speaking of wow- Mila Jovovich definitely wowed in Elie Saab. It was her first time presenting at the Oscars and she sure made a great first impression!

I almost always love what Michelle Williams is wearing and last night was no exception. She's so CUTE! She just looks and seems like such a sweetheart. Like we could totally be friends ;)
Here she is in Louis Vuitton looking as sweet as ever. Loving the brooch. Perfect touch!

Octavia Spencer looked so spectacular in Tadashi Shoji! What a great choice for her figure- I love it! Cream was really big this time at the Oscars. It so classic and pretty...

Another stunner in cream, Rooney Mara steps out of her usual severe black to wear this gorgeous dress by Givenchy Couture. I love this dress. I feel like it could be an amazing wedding dress btw!

Glen Close!! Wow mama, look at you. This is so great! Perfect shape, lovely color and totally age appropriate. I hope I look half as good...

George Clooney showed up with his own golden trophy. Stacy Keibler looking fantastic in Marchesa. Her dress fits so well and looks like liquid gold.

One of my absolute favorites of the evening was Viola Davis in Vera Wang. This photo doesn't do it justice I'm afraid. The color against her skin tone took my breath away. It was so perfect!! Her body is killer and this dress hugs it perfectly. Love love love!

And finally, my other favorite was actually behind the scenes. Giuliana Rancic knocked it out of the park with this TDF Tony Ward dress. Obsessed!

Trend Spotting: The Sneaker Wedge

I've noticed this weird thing about sneaker wedges. They're EVERYWHERE!!!!

I think they're super cute but these Isabel Marant ones down yonder are over $600 which is kind of lame if you ask me. And since you're reading, I assume you'd ask me.
I'm not one to shy away from spending some serious cash on awesome shoes but for sneakers?? Eeeeeeeeehhhh.... I dunno. Plus, I'm a little weary cause it kind of reminds me of the time I was really into buying Nike dunks. I bought some limited edition ones I found in LA and a pair in Japan that looked like they were made of unicorns. I wore them with skinny jeans and hipster scarves. That phase didn't last long.
These are different though I think. There's something chic about them. The height helps elevate them if you'll excuse the cheesy play-on words.

Celebrity Shoe Closets

Good morning! Is it already Monday again?? Well hopefully this post will be a little pick me up.

I LOVE me a good shoe closet ladies. Isn't it funny how that's actually a thing now? A closet specifically for shoes? Celebrities have made having one feel almost normal. I said almost.

The closets seem to keep getting more and more extravagant and I'd bet the pressure to outdo the other girls is intense! It's like a celebrity home staple now. I think it just proves that the relationship between a woman and her shoes is a powerful one. There's something truly special about just the right pair, or for these ladies and myself, the right hundred or so pairs ;)

This was back in 2004 when I was singe and had a condo with a ridiculous 300sq ft shoe closet all to myself. This started my obsession with shoe storage and I'm afraid I'll never be the same again.

And this is my old house. We didn't have a ton of extra room so we converted out office into an office/shoe room.

And later still, and still in the works- here's a little peek at my current shoe closet in my new apartment. Single again with just my shoes to keep me warm. ;) I kid. I have to make light of my pain... don't judge.

Do any of you girls watch the Bachelor?? Well I am not ashamed to say that I do. I don't watch a lot of TV anymore, but when I do, I thoroughly enjoy watching TV of the trashy variety.

Confession time: I watched "The Bachelor" ... and I liked it. I've been hopelessly and unfortunately trapped in the series' web of tears, overly-earnest declarations of love and tacky dresses -- and I'm far from alone.

I'm a relatively new devotee to this cultural phenomenon, which first hit the small screen in 2002, and has spanned spin-offs "The Bachelorette" (2003) and"Bachelor Pad" (2010). After avoiding the franchise successfully for nine years, I was invited to a viewing party by some women that I worked with during Ashley Hebert's season of "The Bachelorette," last May. I was officially hooked, following Ashley through her engagement to JP Rosenbaum, watching all 18 "Bachelor Pad" contestants simultaneously self-destruct and now I'm knee deep in white wine tears on "The Bachelor" -- despite the glaring fact that each of the three series is objectively horrendous. (If you look up "trash television" in the dictionary, you'll probably find former contestant Jake Pavelka's beady eyes staring back at you.)

Most of my peers have a love-hate relationship with "The Bachelor" -- specifically, we hate that we love it. The underlying messages of the show are beyond terrible. We're essentially told that all women in their twenties should be desperately searching for a man to marry (most of the 30-something bachelorettes are portrayed as a particular breed of desperate), and that women are, in general, complete and utter nutjobs (see Melissa Schreiber, Vienna Girardi and of course blogger Jenna Burke). Although, of course, this only applies to white women, as people of color rarely -- if ever -- get cast. Every single one of this season's 25 finalists is white ... or spray tan orange.

Yet even knowing all of these things, season after season, droves of intelligent, successful women come back to ABC and host Chris Harrison for more. In the words of "Brokeback Mountain's" Jack: "I just can't quit you." So why do we do it to ourselves? Is it just pure masochism, or is there something else at play?

Everyone Loves A Good Train Wreck
I'm not proud of this, but there's just something inherently appealing about watching a human being get too drunk, burst into fake tears, and generally embody the term "hot mess." I think it's probably related to the morbid curiosity that impels people to slow down in the middle of the interstate to get a good long look. Watching the women of "The Bachelor" cry in bathroom stalls, discuss their burgeoning careers as VIP cocktail waitresses and dental consultants, and threaten to physically harm each other over a man they barely know, is alternately horrifying and captivating.

It's A Safe Outlet For Our Frustrations
Mondays are hard. Maybe you had a terrible weekend and are still feeling a little under the weather, maybe you had a crappy day at work, maybe your roommate is getting on your nerves or maybe you're just pissed off for no reason at all. Want a safe way to let out your anger without being hurtful to your loved ones? Enter "The Bachelor."

Last week I attended a "Bachelor"-viewing party (aka six women in a room drinking wine and ordering Indian food). Most of the women I've spoken with who watch the show also tend to watch with their female friends. "It's a bonding experience!" said my co-worker, Amanda. "My favorite thing about watching 'The Bachelor' is being able to talk about all the drama with friends during and after the episode." This bonding experience primarily consists of critiquing the contestants' outfits (far too many, too-tight, cut-out dresses), words (how many times in a two-hour period can key phrases "genuine," "journey," "real love" and "connection" be used?), and actions (so many tears and so much backstabbing).

Let me emphasize that most of the women I know are kind and thoughtful people who go out of their way to compliment their female friends, and are very hesitant to talk about other women behind their backs. But we all seem to have come to a tacit agreement that the fact that Ben Flajnik's prospects put themselves on national television makes them fair game. Former finalist Michelle Money, even admitted on "Ellen," "I think anyone is crazy who voluntarily goes on 'The Bachelor.'" Plus -- the women on the show are 10 times more awful to each other than we could ever be as viewers ("bitch," "slut," "clinger" and "cougar" are only a selection of names that the finalists threw at one another during the Jan. 9 episode). And lest you think that Bachelor Ben got off easy, he got his fair share of criticism as well. "He has a dumb-looking face," muttered a friend of mine as he came on-screen.

"Bachelor" Love Is So Fake (And Warped) That It Makes Us Grateful For The (Oft-Painful) Real Thing
Although most educated adults realize by now that "reality" television is highly constructed, that idea has never been more obvious than on a show that manufactures "true love." (My co-worker Jess even commented that "The Bachelor" was far less realistic than "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" -- and that says a lot.) In what world are we supposed to believe that 25 random girls would all fall madly in love with one dopey dude (and in a matter of hours)?

While it's fun to watch all of the uber-cheesy, romance-laden dates unfold on television, the reality of sitting in an empty theater with a practical stranger watching my old baby videos (an actual date that occurred on last week's episode) sounds more uncomfortable than anything. Watching makes us glad we date off-screen, in a world where we will never meet a man by riding in on a white horse or get dumped on a glacier.

We also get to revel in the fact that none of us would go to such lengths to impress a man. Tell another woman you'll cut her face off? Nope. Leave your PhD program to move across the country to a small town? Not even if Ryan Gosling showed up in a limo holding a boom box over his head with two dozen roses and said "You're the one." (Well, maybe for Ryan Gosling ...)

Plus, if there were ever a reason to fully let go of the Prince Charming fantasy that shows like "The Bachelor" attempt to play upon, just look at the numbers. Of all of the couples "magically" brought together on the franchise, only three are still together -- one being Ashley and JP who have yet to reach the year mark of their engagement. Most of us would rather brave the uncomfortable waters of meeting people in bars, through friends or on OKCupid than cut down other women on national television, or snag a man and then be publicly dumped -- details of the whole messy affair splashed across the tabloids.

So instead of taking "The Bachelor" franchise too seriously or using it as any kind of model for our own conduct, we take from it exactly what it can give us -- an escape from our daily lives, a reason to appreciate our real, imperfect romances, and an excuse to drink wine on a Monday night ... sans tears.

A Return to Outfit Posts

I've been sans camera for a long time so my outfit posts have been lacking big time. But now's as good a time as any to get back to it! It felt weird, taking pictures of myself again. I always feel like my pics are kinda low budget cause I take them myself and use a tripod instead of a person. I'm always super jealous of bloggers like Gala or Jane or Jennine or Emily who have the most perfect, beautiful photos. I'm just not good with lighting or setting up the shots or whatever...

I'm not a big jewelry person but I saw this piece by Dannijo and fell in love. I love the neon colored stones mixed with the big more traditional center piece. So cool and unique!

I love neon in general. It's so fun to be so loud and obnoxious! Is it Spring yet?? And can I have pink hair!?

Do you guys ever have shoe regret? I don't mean shoe remorse where you buy a pair and then you're like, why the eff did I buy that effing shoe? I mean when you see an amazing shoe and you don't buy it for one reason or another and then it sells out and you're like, why the eff didn't I buy that effing shoe?

Well kids, yesterday I scored a major victory against shoe regret. I purchased one of the shoes on my list! Yes, I have a list. Wanna see it? Well here's the abridged version ;)

Some of the most amazing shoes I've ever seen, these Balenciaga Fall 2010 shoes were WAY out of my price rage. At over $2500 I regret not having them, but I can't say I regret not buying them ;)

And I know that Jeffrey Campbell knocked these right off but I still wait for the original to pop up on ebay in my size, the Chloe "doc martin" ankle boot. Love.

That's right! The Chloe Susan boot has been reissued! I picked them up today from the South Coast Plaza Chloe store. The LA store had a waitlist and is selling out fast! If you too have these shoes on your regret list, go go go!!! They are also available in red if you're daring enough...

This weird thing has happened to me. For a few months after Ben and I separated my feet were depressed. I had no interest in heels and wore converse every day. It was shocking.
Don't worry, I'm back in heels! But I also found this kind of happy medium in chunky heels and wedges. Where I used to be all about the highest heels possible, (which I still LOVE) now I'm flirting with more comfortable shoes for running around in.

I noticed that two of my stylish girlfriends had these perfect little wedge booties and I loved how they looked on them, so naturally I snatched some up for myself. They're that perfect height where you can't call them low but they're definitely not high. They're super comfortable and I can easily run around in them all day. Another thing these wedge booties are is inexpensive. On sale for $105 each, buying both pairs was cheaper than a pair of designer flats! Unfortunately they're sold out on Nordstrom.com but you may still be able to get them in stores.

I love high heeled high end designer shoes but I'm really excited to find great shoes at a great price. I'll be on the lookout for all of us! ;)
