Parisian singer/songwriter/house hero Sébastien Tellier burst upon the dance music scene in 1999 when he licensed a track to a compilation issued by the revered Source imprint. Labelmates Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel of Air swiftly signed him to their Record Makers label and released Tellier’s debut album, L’incroyable Vérité, in 2001.
Thanks in part to a clever pre-release campaign with U.S. hipster retailer American Apparel, Tellier’s profile in the States rose in 2008 when the title track from his second album, Sexuality, which was produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, became something of an international phenomenon on the dance floor. More discerning discotheque cuts for the cowbell connoisseur from the Delusion of Grandeur imprint, this time calling on Australian playboy Tornado Wallace. The Melbourne resident has impressed with previous pitched down mutant discoid cuts for the Sleazy Beats and Murmur imprints, but the Paddlin' EP sees Tornado Wallace go deep.
The title track has a main groove that throbs away underneath fizzling Detroit pads whilst funk grunts fight for your attention with soaring synth washes. "Swimmin" reworks proceedings, switching down the tempo slightly but bringing the groove topside for a splendid sun kissed chugger. Firecracker/Prime Numbers don Linkwood jumps on board to deliver a soaring seven minute remix that brings to mind the Pepe Bradock classic "Deep Burnt".

We're not sure if Whisky Disco are based in France but they certainly know their onions when it comes to crafty edits. On their fourth release, Whisky Disco enlist the finest California has to offer in Cole Medina. The House Arrest boss has long been championed by the disco savoir faire for his epic slo mo reimagination of the Bee Gees. Here, Medina expertly picks apart some late 70s/early 80s disco funk.
"I Got My Mind Made Up" lifts a section of Instant Funk's track of the same name and methodically crafts a groove perfect for the dancefloor. Medina adds a further hot edit of "Backstrokin" by Fatback, upping the tempo ever so slightly and giving the drums some extra beef. Canada's Eddie C provides ample support, dropping a suitably dreamy dubbed out edit of the Doors standard "Ghost Song".

Runaway - Broken Man

As a close follow up to Runaway’s “The Fire Below”, OTP’s new “Broken Man” follows suit with sprawling mood and tension. Laced with hypnotic Detroit-esque organ riffs, disco flourishes, detuned pads, and the repeating chant “Broken Man”, it’s proper Runaway dance floor frenzy. As an A-side bonus cut we get Runaway’s live version which features an outtake of their forthcoming live show! Nice!
On the B-side, we get Brennan Green from Chinatown Records / NYC! Mr. Green takes the “Broken Man” original and remodels it into a wild snare filled stomper. Fitting nicely into a hybrid set of house and dubstep, his mix is both modern in form and classic in execution. Another super solid release for the OTP team!

The ideas that Soundpool blends together on Mirrors In Your Eyes all work together so magnificently, it's enough to make you wonder why few have made as much of a commitment to this idea in the past. Ulrich Schnauss has called Soundpool the "best fucking band in the world," and while I may not necessarily use those exact words, I can appreciate the enthusiasm. Jan Shipper - Return To Tomorrow

After long silence period Hypersound decided to please us with new Album. This time we got Jan Schipper – Return to tomorrow.
Album contains 12 classical spacesynth songs. I even say too much “classical”. And this similarity got some negative elements. Most album songs sound same, missing some individuality, creativeness. Everything sounds too much same: same drums, most same synths parts (they sound too smooth, too sweet), same composition ideas (exception may be “In cyber space”).

So maybe all album bad or average? No. there is some exception: such songs like both “In cyber space”, “Romantic star” sound nice and they “sweet” melodies fit very well. Most songs got very nice and superb middle intros.
But all of most to my taste album is too much “sweet”. I am missing a little bit more hard soundness, energy (that energy I found only in the last song. WHY only LAST???). This is too melancholic, too disco dish.

Macrocosm - First Mission

An interesting first album out of the cooperation project between Anders Lundqvist and Marco Rochowski. You can easily identify differences in style: Rochowsky's sound is definitely more powerful and coulourful than Lundqivst's bit calm and thin beat. To use a metaphora, Lundqivst is like describing deep space while Rochowsky zooms right into the action. Depends on which one you like more. In my stereo, Lundqvist plays more often.

This leads to one of the drawbacks which we also had with Lundqvist's Unknown Destination (UD). I would really like to find more variety in the tracks. Rochowsky seems to push his dominating voicebox to all tracks and Lundqvist more or less repeats his tricks from UD.

All in all, hope is not lost. Anyone can see the huge potential in these guys. We will be waiting for the next album.

Alex LE TAN & JESS/VARIOUS - Space Oddities: A Compilation Of Rare European Library Grooves From 1975-1984

The latest offering from Munich’s Permanent Vacation; a collection of rare library recordings, dug out of dusty vaults, and released for your enjoyment. It’s hard to find much to say about this. If you are into the more obscure avenues of music, specifically the 60’s 70’s 80’s library sound - spacey, mechanical and pioneering or your tastes are of the beard stroking variety, then you will almost certainly know of this release already and my words will merely offer another opinion. If on the other hand obscure library music, or leftfield disco is not your bag, this compilation is going to sound similar to the many others that have mined the same area….. basically the soundtrack to a cool movie you never saw.
I personally like it. A lot. Weird sounds, off kilter melodies, cosmic beats and enough low rent electronics to send a gerbil into space… but I would be lying if I said I had never heard this kind of stuff before, and you likely have too. It all makes me wonder if there is anything truly new still to be found in the past. Don't take my word though, dig it out and listen - there is some very nice music to be found here ( with beautiful artwork to boot)

Boohgaloo Zoo are Kbonus and U-Gene, two veterans of the Belgian and Dutch music scene respectively. After meeting at the 10 Days Off festival in Ghent the duo started exchanging music and soon enough a full album was in the making. With Kbonus adding beats and samples and U-Gene dropping the vocals and keys it was obvious they were a match made in P-funk heaven, as you can hear on their eponymous album released on 5th July 2010 on Lovemonk Records.
