After returning from war, life isn’t always easy for veterans of war. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be a debilitating problem for these veterans trying to adjust to life back home. Veterans should look for financial assistance they are entitled to via U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs disability benefits.

“PTSD is not a new problem,” according to the Vietnam Veterans of America website. “It is simply a more recent label for an age-old disorder that has been in existence since stone-age warriors were beating each other with clubs. Around 1980, the American Psychiatric Association designated PTSD to describe a delayed-stress syndrome commonly experienced by combat-veterans.”

There have been many changes to how PTSD claims have been processed by VA, but veterans who qualify are entitled to these benefits. Depressiond.org said symptoms of PTSD can include nightmares and flashbacks in Class 1, inability to enjoy activities or have loving feelings in Class 2 and an inability to sleep and irritability in Class 3. Veterans should seek assistance and benefits if suffering from these symptoms.

The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates are experts in obtaining evidence and proving PTSD claims. It is important for veterans to seek psychological treatment for their condition, including counseling and medication. This treatment is viewed as critical evidence in support of a PTSD claim by VA officials.

Having Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can be extremely difficult on children. Whether trying to go to school, make friends or pay attention to anything, ADHD can cripple how a child lives. Those who have children who suffer from ADHD may be able to get disability benefits from the Social Security Administration.

In order to prove that a child’s case to a SSA judge, parents should have medical records prepared. DisabilitySecrets said prescription medication will most likely be a big factor as well, as judges may think the ADHD isn’t as serious if a medical professional hasn’t considered medication. School testing and testimony from teachers and other aides at school may also be necessary to win a case, but it can be done to give families financial relief.

Symptoms of ADHD include inattention, hyperactivity, poor judgements or impulses and a combination of all of these coalescing into one. These can all spell problems for a child trying to get through a school day or get a proper night’s sleep.

The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates have represented numerous children who suffer from ADHD as well as other mental illnesses. We are experts at winning disability benefits for such children. It is very important for the parents of children suffering from these disorders to have complete psychological testing performed as well as school IEP reports available for consideration. This can work as evidence in support of their child’s Social Security disability case.

For those who experience migraines or consistent headaches, life can be extremely hard and simple tasks can become impossible. Those who have these troubles should know that migraines can be considered a disability qualifying condition by the Social Security Administration and benefits are attainable.

According to WebMD, those who suffer from chronic migraines suffer from ever-present pain throughout the day that affects the front, top and sides of the head. Pain comes and goes for prolonged periods of time and can affect vision and make someone very fatigued.

A person with migraines can be disabled at any age, old or young, and an inability to do the basic demands of work could be enough to show a judge that someone is disabled. A loss of the ability to make work-related decisions, be able to understand and carry out simple instructions and deal with work situations can ruin some one’s life; Social Security benefits could be a small way to help that person get back on their feet.

The law offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates have successfully represented numerous clients in obtaining disability benefits due to disability from migraines. It is critical to prove a client cannot work based on migraines headaches. It is also very important that the claimant have sufficient medical evidence of pain and limitations of their daily activities as a result of such pain.

Gulf War veterans with undiagnosed, disability qualifying benefits now have an extension on their deadline to apply for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The extension is due to a recent change in VA regulations which affects veterans from the conflict with undiagnosed or poorly understood medical problems that may stem from military service.

“Not all the wounds of war are fully understood,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. “When there is uncertainty about the connection between a medical problem and military service, veterans are entitled to the benefit of the doubt.”

Some things that still may be misunderstood include chemical weapons, vaccinations, environmental hazards and more. Gulf War operations are defined as those who served on active duty in Southwest Asia from August 2, 1990 through the Iraq War and subsequent reduced operations in Iraq, including Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn. Veterans affected by injuries or illnesses that occurred in war are entitled to benefits and they are attainable.

Veterans should be aware that there are deadlines in their claims that must be timely met or they will lose their entitlement to benefits. Additionally, in order to prove their claim, it may be necessary to retain private medical experts to supply medical evidence that would otherwise not be available through treatment in VA’s medical system. The law offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates are committed to assisting veterans in developing and retrieving the necessary medical evidence to prevail on there claim.

After an article published in the Boston Globe reported that some parents may misuse or create disability qualifying benefits to receive payments from the Social Security Administration, Congress has begun a probe into to the children’s benefits program, according to an article printed this fall by Disability Scoop.

While there may be some misuse by parents, make no mistake that many children are affected by disabilities every day. Daniel Bertino of the Government Accountability Office is quoted by the website as saying it may be complex to figure out what is real and what is not as far as mental impairments such as Autism and cerebral palsy is concerned.

“Accurately diagnosing some types of mental impairments is a complex and often subjective process for (the Social Security Administration), which can sometimes be vulnerable to fraud and abuse,” Bertoni said, according to Disability Scoop. A full GAO report on the matter will be delivered in April.

Children who are afflicted with mental and/or physical illness and apply for disability benefits have a greater chance of approval for their claim if they are represented by an experienced Social Security disability lawyer. It is important that appropriate medical evidence be gathered and submitted to the SSA. The law offices of Harold W Conick and Associates are skilled in successfully preparing and presenting children’s disability cases.

Children with cerebral palsy can lead a good life. There can be happiness, fun trips and everything good about being a child, but things can also get very expensive for families. One website said families may have to pay over $100,000 for special education, a large amount for most families. Applying for benefits with the Social Security Administration may help families struggling with trying to give their child a good life.

According to a website called About Cerebral Palsy, those affected by cerebral palsy have a chronic group of conditions affecting muscle coordination and body movements, which is usually caused by damage to areas of the brain during fetal development or infancy. It can also occur during or after birth.

While the disease is not curable, parents want to be able to give their children the best possible chance at happiness, and education and therapy can go a long way toward that. Gaining benefits to help with payments can be a big help in the long-run for families struggling with this disability.

For the past 25 years, The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates have successfully represented numerous children with disabilities before the Social Security Administration. It is important in children’s disability cases to submit all relevant medical and school evidence to support a claim as soon as possible in order to have a timely decision made in the case.

With thousands of veterans in Illinois and a Department of Veterans Affairs backlog, many veterans with disability qualifying conditions may not have the easiest time getting their benefits in a timely fashion. With assistance, these veterans have a better chance getting benefits quickly.

According to NPR, the backlog of disability claims in the VA has grown from 500,000 to 800,000, with officials from the department pointing to young veterans coming home injured and new rules which allow Vietnam veterans to get more compensation from exposure to the Agent Orange chemical.

There are now a number of pilot programs by VA to get more veterans in for exams and worked through the backlog, but the only thing veterans can do to help their own case at the moment is fill out their papers and get them filed as quickly as possible.

It is important for veterans to make all of their medical records available for VA consideration as soon as possible and to appeal denial decisions in a timely fashion. The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates will work hard to get a veteran their benefits as quickly as possible.

For those with disability qualifying conditions, not much comes easy. Applying for benefits from the Social Security Administration can seem like another difficult step in a painstaking process and figuring out what would qualify and what wouldn’t could be tricky. For a quick explanation, the Social Security Administration explained who could qualify to the McClatchy-Tribune News Service.

“If you are an adult, you must be unable to work for a year or more because of a medical condition or combination of medical impairments,” a SSA spokesperson answered. “Overall, we use a five-step evaluation process to decide whether you are disabled. The process considers any current work activity you are doing. It also considers your medical condition and how it affects your ability to work.”

To qualify, people must be unable to work or do work they have done before the disability become a problem. The SSA must also decide that you cannot adjust to new work. The disability must be expected to last a year, the spokesperson told the news source, or cause death. For those worried about getting back to work, there are work programs through the SSA which can help people who believe they can get back to work at some point.

The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates have successfully represented clients in obtaining Social Security disability benefits in the Chicagoland area for over 25 years. We have a reputation for winning difficult cases.

For parents at a loss for how to pay for their Autistic child’s medical bills, Social Security disability benefits may be the way to go. Autism is considered to be a disability qualifying benefit by the Social Security Administration, so children of any age can get help.

According to the Social Security Administration’s “Blue Book,” or the Impairment Listing Manual, in order to qualify for disability payments, children with Autism must have documented findings of defects in the development of social interaction, defects in verbal and non-verbal communication and imaginative activity and a restricted repertoire of interests and activities. This is then further broken down by the Social Security Administration by age to decide if each child qualifies.

While it is very important for children with disability qualifying benefits to meet the administration’s requirements, working closely with doctors and social security experts will help families figure out what can work best for each individual child.

The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick & Associates have successfully represented many children afflicted with autism before the Social Security Administration. Medical records supporting a child’s functional limitations are critical to obtaining benefits in Autism claims.

With about 10 percent of living veterans seriously injured while serving in the military and three-quarters of those injured while in combat, there are many physical and emotional hardships, according to the Pew Research Center’s website. The website said U.S. veterans do not believe they are getting enough in the way of disability benefits.

Pew reports veterans who have service-related injuries have a tougher time adjusting back to normal life and three times as likely to say they have post-traumatic stress disorder. The survey also found that 52 percent of veterans don’t believe the government has given them “all the help you think it should.”

While seven out of every 10 veterans rate the care they received as excellent or good, Pew said the judgement varies by a veteran’s era of service. About 71 percent who left action prior to Sept. 11, 2011 rated medical care positively, meanwhile only 55 percent post 9/11 rated the care well

The Law Offices of Harold W. Conick and Associates is highly motivated to assist Veterans in obtaining all the benefits to which they are entitled. It is very important for Veterans to file their claims in a timely fashion, whether it be on their own or through assistance of legal counsel.
