Conference – Clifden May 17^th & 18^th 2012

An Ageing Society, Obesity and Unemployment – These are the critical issues facing Irish Society in the coming decade. They present significant challenges for policy makers, public sector bodies, private enterprise and the community and Voluntary Sector

Galway County Council is hosting a unique event that will present new approaches in sport, recreational activity and positive lifestyles that will assist people in all sectors to address these challenges.

Speakers such  as Dr. Caro-lynne Ferris (CAAN Network), Chris Wright, (Snowdonia Active), Frazer Coupland (Fort William ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’) and Special Guest Micháel O’Muircheartaigh voice of Gaelic games will present their experiences on how we can use sport, healthy lifestyles, or outdoor recreation as tools to create jobs, improve our health, and sustain a quality of life for our ageing population.

There are a limited number of places available for this event.

Brief Overview:
“The lap is loosely based around the green loop with some nice fireroad climbs and cracking singletrack descents, for this race we also have some nice natural terrain with a few tricky little twisty bits and a few small drops and a couple of sets of steps just to keep you on your toes. The race will start on the fireroad and will enter the singletrack after a few hundred metres so the sprint start will be vital . The baggy short race will consist of two laps of different lengths, totalling 12km, winning time should be approx 40 mins, the superpros will do the same plus two more short laps totalling 18km the winning time should be approx 70  mins. There will be vendor selling burgers for refuelling and there are hot showers available in the Centre, we have ordered fine weather for the day so this should be a good days racing and craic. This will be ideal training for the NPS on the following week.”

We are staying in Limerick on the Saturday night in the South Court Hotel.

This is a very STEEP, TECHNICAL, FAST, and SCARY trail,  if any of these four words in BOLD worry you then maybe it’s not a trail for you,  it is also 25km in length and is physically demanding,  however everybody has to learn at some point so if your up for a serious challenge then your welcome to join in.

Car-pooling from Esso garage on Oranmore – Claregalway road just before Oranmore Omniplex @ 08:00am or AppleGreen Athlone @ 09:00am.  On the trail just before 11:00am,  prob back to Galway around 19:00pm.
