What a beautiful and fun wedding affair! I had the honor and pleasure of photographing my friend’s wedding in late May. When we met a while back to go over what the bride had in mind I got really excited over all the details from the different fabrics she chose for each individual bridesmaid to the vintage collection of jars she had been collecting. Jasmine and David are the ultimate DIY couple when it comes to planning an event. I couldn’t say it better than the bride herself, so I will use her words below to fill you in on all the details. I knew I wanted a vintage dress from the 1950’s, but had a tough time finding the right one. I bought 3 different dresses online at Etsy.com and none of them worked! We were getting a bit down to the wire, so I decided to take my mom up to Portland for her birthday and – conveniently – set up an appointment at Xtabay vintage bridal salon (http://xtabayvintage.blogspot.com/p/bridal-salon.html). We walked in and within 15 minutes had found my dress. We shortened the sleeves, added a poofy underskirt and belt, and voila! My dream wedding dress.

I wanted a wedding theme that would combine my love of the outdoors, farms, pickles, pies and everything vintage…and that also brought an element of fun and kept things lighthearted. I’ve always been in love with the idea of old-school county fairs where people brought their homemade preserves, etc. to vie for the blue ribbon. Our theme also gave us opportunities to get guests involved in the festivities, from the pie/dessert contest to the raffle, to the guess-their-weight game!

I’ve always thought it was impossible to plan your future because anything can happen that can change your destiny. A couple years ago, 2010 to be exact, an old friend from college commented on my blog post telling me she would call me in two years or so to shoot her engagement photos. I thought, “aww, that’s so sweet!” but no way was she serious because who plans that far in advance? I wrote it off as just a nice comment from a nice gal. Apparently, she was very serious. Fast forward to 2012, the same girl emailed me and told me she and her boyfriend were engaged, and they wanted me to shoot their engagement session. I was flattered and super excited because the couple said they had continued to follow my work and were still serious about hiring me. So like any normal human being in this generation I stalked them on Facebook to learn about their lives, and I fell more and more in love with them with every status update, mobile upload, and comment.
