I bought this for an Amazon deal of the day a month or two back. It is conveniently sized, holds batteries for mobile use (haven’t tried it yet), and has ports for both apple products and anything else with a headphone out port. The sound quality is good but not great. Considering it’s price category it performs well. It isn’t a Bose or Klipsch but it costs just a fraction of the price so what should I expect?! All in all I’m very pleased.

I just received my Philips Fidelio DS3010, and I really love the sound. The sound is richer than I expected and pumps out more than enough bass. Simple design, well built (feels sturdy when you pick it up), and does what it’s supposed to do very well. I highly recommend it for those days you go out the beach, park, or just want to listen to it in your room. You won’t be disappointed. I read a few reviews that said clarity was an issue…I have no clue what they are talking about.

I’ve tested numerous brands/models and have found this to be one of the best for the size, price & sound quality for my iPhone 4s. The hinged docking connector makes connecting my 4s (in the case) easy and safe. The speaker is small enough to fit just about anywhere, but don’t let the small size fool you – it also has good sound and power. And the Philips DockStudio app is a nice add on that provides a basic equalizer, clock/alarm and music player. The only negative – no remote. But that’s the norm for sub $80 docking speakers. Otherwise I was pleasantly surprised by this docking speaker and definitely recommend it.

Not Good For the Vision Impaired., June 10, 2012

It was very disappointing to find that the adjustable print feature on the Kindle Fire Kindle Fire, Full Color 7″ Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi is only applicable to the books. This means that a vision impaired person cannot read the magazines and newspapers and, more importantely, cannot read the book reviews.

I pondered the idea of a tablet for about 2 months before pulling the trigger. My first question was, “do I really need a tablet?” I have a desktop computer, a laptop computer and an iPod Touch. Is a tablet necessary? No, it’s not. I believe there are few people who actually “need” a tablet. However, there are many, many more who will get function, use, joy, happiness and entertainment from a tablet. The Kindle is a perfect size to carry with you. I found it fits in a cargo pants’ pocket! Get one of the cases on Amazon and it’s a joy to carry, even easier than an paperback. In conclusion I decided I didn’t need a Kindle Fire…just not necessary. But for under 200 bucks???? It’s a no brainer, you have to have it.

Next, which tablet? Well knowing what I know now, you have to have the Kindle Fire. I check my email on it, I surf the web on it, I can send texts on it (all of course while connected to the web, and who isn’t?), I have my photographs on it and I am a photographer. I have music on it both mine and internet radio from all over the world no less)I play games on it, I have a multitude of progams on it that help with my day to day activities of life! Is this thing useful? Oh Yeah…and for under 200 bucks, its a no brainer.

How does it work? In a word, well. All these thousands of reviewers can’t be wrong. Maybe there are a few disgruntled users, who through user error or who may have gotten a bad sample write nasty things…and the apple fanboys who dis it. This Kindle rocks. It does what it is advertised to do and more. The development team is responsive. There was a problem with kids buying stuff..well they put parental locks on the machines. The Kindle Fire team rocks. Amazon is a name you can trust. Even though I bought my Kindle at Sams Club..figuring if I wasn’t happy I could return it easier…cost me more that way though. I am NOT returning this Kindle Fire. It just works….and did I mention it only cost 200 bucks.

What do you get for four times the cost of a Kindle Fire? More memory…do you need it? Probably not. I use the cloud for many things and some data does reside on the 8 Gigs in the machine. I probably won’t fill it up. You get a bigger screen, and bulk. You get more apps, I have all I need in the Amazon store. There are more everyday. You get 4g, if you need it get it. Yes, you get a faster processor, but no where NEAR four times as fast. I mean you can’t beat this with a stick for 200 bucks.

Yes, I looked at all the reviews on Amazon and the tech sites….You gotta love the Kindle. It just does what you want it do. OH AND DID I MENTION BOOKS????? Wow. There are many free books, many books you can get directly from the public library (my personal killer application), and books from Prime. Don’t get me started on prime. For way less than 7 bucks a month you get a great deal. Just look it up, 2 day shipping! Books to borrow. Movies to watch, special deals…..I mean prime is choice…BTW you get a month free..so that brings the Kindle price down to 193! Holy cow. Which is one reason why that magazine that “reports to consumers” gave it a best buy rating…and only one other tablet got it…it wasn’t an apple.

Are you excited yet? You should be. And for the price of dinner for 8 at a good restaurant you can be awe struck by the Kindle. Don’t wait for two months like I did. Get it now. You won’t be sorry. You’ll thank me and you’ll want take my family of 8 out to a great restaurant, it’s not necessary.

60D versus the T3i, November 12, 2011

This is my first product review and I’m going to make this brief. Hopefully this will help someone who is undecided between the Canon T3i and the 60D. I last used a 35mm SLR about 15 years ago. I was used to being able to quickly and easily adjust aperture, iso and shutter speed. Since then I’ve used a progression of Canon digital point and shoots. When I got the T3i I was expecting a similar experience to my SLR days, but was sorely disappointed. To make changes with the T3i, you have to navigate through a difficult to use menu one the LCD display. With the 60D you’re able make those changes much more easily without using the LCD menu. The small screen on top of the camera is a big help and displays the current settings. Otherwise the two cameras are capable of taking the same quality photographs.

If you can, I would suggest trying both cameras out and seeing which you’re more comfortable using.

Pros for the 60D: Change settings more quickly, longer battery life
Cons for the 60D: Heavier and more expensive

Pros for the T3i: Lighter and less expensive.
Cons for the T3i: More difficult to navigate menu and change settings, also shorter battery life

Let me shoot you with my Canon, November 12, 2011

I am an action photograher and needed something with a quick shutter speed and a quick fps. The fps is 5 which I’m not thrilled about, but I make it work. Just have to anticipate your subject a bit.

My experience with canons has been with the 40d and 30d’s. I love the 60d so much more. I really like the double mode wheel and that you can control everything with one hand. Because if you have a large lense, you can support it with 1 hand and review your images with the other, you dont have to leave the lense dangling. I also like that is has all the iso, shutter speed, drive mode all on the top, so you just have to press it and flick the dial. It is probably one of the most user friendly cameras I have ever had. Also, some people may not like it, but it takes SD cards rather than CF. I had a few sd cards so no need to buy a bunch of cf cards. So yay for saving money. I have heard people complaining about the poly-carbonite body, but if you type in ‘camera durability test’ on youtube a guy beats up a canon xti and a nikon d3100, both with plastic bodies and both still work after the beating. And some of the bauer goalie masks are make out of poly-carbonite plastics and they dont crack when hit with pucks. So a cam made out of that material is good enough for me.

The image quality is steller, even though I shoot raw at an iso of 1250 and a shutter of 500 the pixel noise isn’t bad at all. Not much post processiong is needed. Also, the auto focus is super quick, or that may be just the lens. the Canon 70-200 f2.8 which I highly recomend. I also did not think I would use the rotating lcd thing, but I actually do for overhead shots.

The reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that once you go to the lcd, rather than the eyepiece is that it takes a while to focus, which is not good when trying to snag a quick overhead shot. And the fps, even though I have made it work it is kind of a let down for 800 bucks.

Great First DSLR for semi experienced photographers, November 8, 2011

I have owned this camera for over a year now and still enjoy using it. I only shoot as a hobby so my review will be from a hobby standpoint. To give a little background to know where my review comes from, I took photojournalism in high school, but did not really shoot regularly until 15 years later when I bought this camera. I really felt the entry level models would be too basic, and a pro level too far above my head. When buying I considered both nikon and canon, and after settling on canon was looking at the t2i, 60d, and 7d. I mainly shoot nature or my friends at events. As I like to shoot nature, I wanted a camera I felt would hold up to being taken out on a four wheeler ride up in the mountains, or to keep with me when out camping.

The main thing that made me select this camera over the t2i or the 7D was the articulating screen. As stated above I do ride four wheelers occasionally and felt the abilty to close the screen would prevent scratches and dust particles rubbing on the screen due to the vibrations on the four wheeler. (ive scratched my cell phone screen up, so I figure this screen would be just as easily scratched) So if you plan on putting your DSLR into a bag/backpack and going outdoors where it could be dusty, Id recommend a camera with an articulating screen. On my particular camera I turned off the review photo feature and mostly keep the screen closed, and only open when I want to review a specific photo.

Ive read alot of other reviews and there seem to be lots of complaints about the “plastic” body. The camera is solid I have no problems putting this camera in my backpack and taking it hiking or putting it on the four wheeler. The body has heft to it, it’s not a cheap hollow plastic body. I feel confident the camera would stand up to being dropped from a normal height and still shoot. I find the ligher (but sufficiently strong) body better suited for my needs when I want to take it on a hike in a backpack and weight is important.

Most reviews ive read talk about how the camera feels in hand. I too agree this camera feels good in the hand. The grip is sufficient to let me feel like I have a solid grip on the camera when im just walking around. I took my 60D with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 attached on a mile and a half hike and pretty much carried the camera by the grip and it was comfortable. Also, I like that the buttons and controls are pretty much all accessible with the right hand. Once you learn your way around, you can make changes with your right hand while still holding the camera to your eye with the left.

Also, ive read reviews which complain about having to push down in the center of the mode dial in order to turn it. To me this is nonsense. Its easy and comes very natural. Ive also read complaints thats the video mode is all the way at the end of the mode dial. I have yet to find this to be a problem. In all fairness I rarely shoot video with my camera. In my opinion, when im thinking of shooting video im out with that purpose so it will stay in that mode. If im out to shoot photos it will generally stay in that mode. For the 5% of the time I decide to shoot both, ive had no issues getting from one mode to the other.

After a year of using this camera I started looking at cameras again to see what is out there and if I would change my mind and now go for the 7D or T3i. I’ve looked at the others in the store and wouldnt go down to a t3i from a 60d. I do think the plastic body of the t3i is of lesser quality plus I dont like not having a wheel selector on the back, and find myself using the top LCD panel quite often. I would like faster frames per second of the 7D but thats really the only thing more I would really like. For my uses, the ligher 60d with the ability close the screen for added protection make me feel more confident with the camera outdoors. I realize the 7D is better weather sealed, however unless you have weather sealed lenses and plan on shooting in torrential downpours this doesnt realistically benefit me. That said if I was buying again id likely go with the 60d again, but put an articulating screen on the 7D and it would be a difficult decision.

Works great, I’ve been using it with the new iPhone 4S and it works perfectly, no problems, sometimes it gives me the “this device is not supported by this iPhone” or something like that, but you just hit ‘ok’ and it goes away, it charges the phone with no problems, even the remote works with other applications besides the iPod/music player, I’ve been using it with ‘sound cloud’, ‘audible’, ‘pandora’, etc… I know most of the new speakers support bluetooth connectivity but if you’re looking for something to charge your phone, this works great.

Wonderful rich sound when plugged in, great sound when on battery. The battery life averages about 4 hours which is increased as lower volumes. Good distance on the remote(around 15ft). Best sounding battery powered speaker on the market. I consider myself an audiophile and I can assure you this product won’t disappoint.

Cons:Recharge time is high (around 7 hours) Remote’s are not universal. DO NOT loose or break the remote. I had to exchange the entire unit when I jumped in the pool with the remote in my pocket

These logitech speakers are by far some of the best I have ever owned. The best part is the built in support for any type of iPod or even iPhone. Other portable speakers come with small plastic templates that are supposed to provide the necessary support your device needs in order to spare it any stress from flopping around. These speakers have it built in and it works perfect.

The sound from these speakers is very nice for the size and the included carrying case is extremely convenient. I debated weather or not to buy these but I am very happy with my decision after finally making it.

This is a great buy. I’ve tried several different docking options for my iPod and this is, by far, the best I have come across. I just bought my second one today. The sound is of great quality and is a lot deeper and richer than you would expect from a unit of this size. I’m impressed. The one feature I would like to to have seen is the ability to control the bass, which, on some songs is slightly higher than I like and requires me to turn downt he volume slightly. However, this is only a minor gripe and can be fixed by unplugging the unit. When on battery power, it plays with slighly less bass.

I have had these speakers for several weeks now and have used them quite extensively. Here are my thoughts:
Pros:
1. Loud.
These speakers get very loud. It works best if you use the direct ipod connection rather than the AUX. It gets louder and is much clearer using this digital method over the analog AUX input.
2. Portable.
These speakers are light and small enough to carry around. The carrying case isn’t the best, but it gets the job done.
3. Audio Quality
These speakers produce excellent audio quality. The only time i hear any distortion is when the volume is all the way up.

Cons:
1. Battery life.
The battery life is not as great as promised on these. This is probably due to the volume level. If you are listening to them and they are quiet, they will last hours. However, most people will probably have the volume at least half way, so i would expect only 3-4 hours this way.

The smartphone works perfect and is more impressive than any iphone you have seen before for sure. I can’t say anything about the warranty, it suppose to be international and I hope I will never need it. My only advice if you buy one is… some companies in Toronto, Canada, and maybe around the world, have been offering this phone as a 4G, but actually this phone comes with a H+ speed, which is a middle point speed between 3G and 4G. Probably you won’t find any difference with 4G now because the average speed in the market is slower than 3G and 4G, but be aware of it, you never know in the future things can change.

Bang for your buck $$, September 6, 2011

I recently purchased this coby 4gb mp3 player from Amazon and I have to say I have been nothing but satisfied. I currently own a smartphone, Dell Streak 5, which I used to use as an mp3 player, but due to limitations on my phone, the volume is very poor and it is too large for comfort. The 4gb that the Coby mp3 player comes with is more than enough space for my music needs and I doubt I will ever completely fill it. It also has a fairly large screen size, compared to other mp3 players similarly priced, which is very easy to see. One feature that was an essential for me is the equalizer! I love bass in my music so the bass boosting setting is perfect for me. I honestly have no complaints. This player is small, light, convenient, and it comes at a price that cannot be beat. Also putting music on this device is as easy as dragging and dropping the files as one would do with a flash-drive. I highly recommend this mp3 player to anyone who does not want to spend big bucks on a brand name mp3 player but also does not want some odd-ball mp3 player that is cheap and or poor quality.

I was looking a for a cheap and decent mp3 player just to get me along…it comes with a basic earphone with a straight connector (personally it annoyed me though because of the way it has to sit in your ear or else it hurts) but I already had better earphones so it didn’t bother me too much. I’ve had this turned on and running all night long to the next night before it looked like I needed a recharge (low volume with earphones), as far as I know the battery life is superb. The screen is a bit glossy, but when you have the backlight on(pretty hard to see when in broad daylight as with any screens)…the glare seems to go away. It doesn’t use a touchpad so no need to put fingerprints on the screen, and it doesn’t seem to have much of any pertruding buttons to cause any unwanted results when its sitting in your pockets or elsewhere; even so this device still has a hold feature. Absolutely amazing, I can’t seem to find anything discredible about the device other than maybe the uncomfortable earphones it came with. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a quick fix with their portable music/video/radio.

I had a 265WT. Its battery stopped holding a charge. I purchased the 1450LWT as a replacement and its working just like the old one except it has smoother frame rates, a larger screen and the handy lane assist. I don’t know where I’d be without it, literally.

I’ve bought two of these this year so both our vehicles have new GPS. The price was right and GPS arrived quickly. So much easier to read than our old GARMIN. Traffic information, we live in Atlanta area, is really helpful especially if we are going into/through downtown Atlanta. Ads aren’t as, to us, annoying as some reviewers remarked. Very happy with our choice and would recommend it to family/friends.

I bought the newest ipod touch from amazon wharehouse deals. it is a 32g 4th generation ipod. first off it is a very good product i love it. you get stickers a quick start guide headphones a syncing cable and the ipod itself. BUY the 32g the 8g actually only comes with 6g. this is not enough for even the most basic uses. the quality of the ipod is great dosnt feel to light or flimsy and i have a big hand. the major problem is if you drop it it will shatter. avoid if your clumsy. the camera that takes still pictures is pathetic worse then a cell phone on the other hand the same camera records video and is very good compared to the still pictures. if you have a older generation theirs no need to upgrade but if you have to dont waste time by buying the 8g i promise you will regret it. it is very fun and if you want a good deal go to amazons warehouse deals they advertise it as like new and it is mine came with no scratches or signs of use in original packaging for about 70 dollars of retail. look their before buying new.

This is my first Apple product after having been a life-long PC guy. The iPod Touch is an amazing product to start with – great sound (earphones that come with it are not a good design), WIFI capable, good quality cameras, excellent video screen, and very easy to use. But to me the most outstanding part is the apps. With WIFI access, you can turn your Ipod Touch into a phone (Talkatone and Google Voice), listen to hundreds of internet radio stations (Tunein Radio), pull up interesting facts and things to see near where you are anywhere (Wikihood), be able to identify a song and in many cases the artist (SoundHound), and I have not even begun to look into games. These apps are all free through iTunes.

With the continuing increase in free WIFI availability (Starbucks, grocery stores, airports, etc), the iPod Touch is a convenient and easy way to stay connected without lugging around a tablet or laptop, and there is no cell phone connection service fee.

Highly recommended.

The picture quality is pretty good for waterproof cameras but, the speed of the taking the picture seems slow, sometimes even missing a shot. All in all, the camera is of good quality. Still getting to know all of it’s features.

Great Camera, but some bugs, May 18, 2011

I have had the camera for about 1 year. I got it because I wanted to take on a cruise and use when snorkeling. The camera is easy to use and does a good job on auto selection the mode, except for low light, where you need to change and it works great.

The only issue I have is in some setting I get the odd lines (single multi color)that appear to be random on the LCD and on the pictures. I have had it sent in for repair and still happens I have to assume it is some kid of bug that happens when taking pictures with certain colors.

It work great most of the time!

I purchased this camera because a friend of ours had it and the pictures always came out bright, focused and nice. We do a lot of water activities and it’s nice to have something to take along that you don’t have to worry about getting wet.

One downfall, I was in Hawaii and on the first day in the water snorkeling, the LCD display quit working. I could hear the camera functioning so continued to take photos for the rest of the trip. Luckily, all of those turned out pretty well for just pointing and guessing. But the great thing was that I was still under warranty, followed the Canon repair instructions, sent it in on a Friday and by the next Tuesday I had received a brand new camera. Unluckily I ended up taking many of my Hawaii pics with my iPhone instead of with my nice camera but I so have it for another day. I did not see any wet in either of the openings so I’m not sure if water got in and did something to the LCD display or if it was just an odd coincidence that it stopped working underwater. No explanation from Canon, just a note that they don’t do repairs on this model. I will be sure to triple-check the seals next time before I go in the water though.
