The sting is quite memorable. My experience is not rare among rural citizens. We tend to keep to ourselves, happy just living away from all of the urban sprawl. It is our own fault, however, not being as involved with our local commissioners as we should be. I have learned my lesson.

Our problems with big brother begin whenever we decide to enjoy our own property. Maybe we want to do some landscaping or build an out building. Perhaps we want to drill a water well or dig a small pond. Hold on there, folks! Not without permission from the local county government! What has America become?

I don't know about most folks, but I chose to live away from the cities and the homeowners associations for a reason. I wanted to be able to enjoy my property just as our Founders enjoyed theirs. I like to garden. I want to wash my car in the driveway. I like to have large gatherings with friends and cook out on the week-ends, without worrying about bothering the neighbors. I want to tinker on old cars, tractors, boats, atv's, etc. without worrying about clutter regulations. I like hunting on my property and target shooting with my favorite rifle or shot gun. Most of all, at night I like sitting outside with my wife, watching the stars, and enjoying the quietness of it all.

Someone has to defend what is left of our private property rights and try to ease some of the ridiculous ordinances and regulations thrust upon us. That someone begins with me. I will attend county commissioners meetings and call my state representative, and I encourage all that I come in contact with, to follow my lead. After all, it is in our best interest to be able to enjoy our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, without a permission slip.

Tyranny and an Armed Public

The Founders of our great Nation knew that a representive republic would be hard to keep. The constant threat of tyranny by the government, was purposely subdued by insisting on the right of the People to keep and bear arms. The definition of arms is not tied to the evolution and improvement on them, but instead, is clarified by the words "shall not be infringed". The common sense of the People determine what is acceptable and what is not. Nuclear weapons, heavy artillery, machine guns, etc., are widely accepted as illegal to individually own, (machine guns being allowed only by federal license).

The cry from anti-gun groups is that assault weapons should be illegal. The dirty little secret is that they ARE illegal. Here is where word play comes in. The definition of an assault rifle is that it has selective fire capability, meaning- single shot, semi auto, AND fully automatic. The AR-15 fifle used by the deranged shooter in Colorado was not an assault rifle, but a clone that fired in semi-automatic fashion, just like many hunting rifles. This rifle just looks like it's military counterpart. You can purchase these rifles in several "looks"at your local Wal-Mart. The fact is, the Colorado shooter could just have easily bought a traditional hunting semi-automatic rifle with detachable clips, and used it to do the exact same harm.

Think about this...a deranged individual repeats the cinema massacre but uses molotov cocktails instead. The results could have been even more horrible, with many dead and severely wounded. What would be the resulting wrath of the citizenry? Outlaw gasoline? Matches?

Unfortunately, there is no 100% way to detect future psychopaths. Some mentally ill people do give warning signs, but not all do. Placing the blame on inanimate objects, rather than the person committing the crime is stupid. According to government statistics , overall violent crime is down. Yes, terrible things happen. Yes, we can strive to try to prevent terrible events such as the Colorado shootings, but we must carefully place our remedies. The cinema in Aurora, Colorado was a "gun free zone", but having such a rule did not prevent this tragedy.

New Romney Campaign Strategy

Epiphanies are a rather rare thing in my life, but today I had one. Mitt Romney's lack of enthusiasm and inspiration caused me to wonder what in the world must we on the right do to propel Mr.Milktoast into the highest office in the land? Everyone has offered advice to his campaign but little improvement or fire in the belly has been produced by such encouragement. The "lay low and not create a stir" strategy kind of sucks.

Then it came to me. There was a comedy movie some years back called "Weekend at Bernie's". Instead of relying on the Romney campaign to do the right things, we must visualize Romney as the dead "Bernie", and we will be the ones to prop up the corpse and take the message of restoring America to its roots in the Constitution, directly to the people. Just ignore the rest of the campaign as really ineffective (which they are) and put all of our efforts into conservative superpacs and their advertising, demanding and promoting the end of Obama's socialist take-over, and insisting on Romney, aka,"Bernie"as the solution to the crisis.
The topic was "Is our Republic Already Lost?"
He has an interesting outlook / theory about this that I thought I would share with all of you.

While
we point out all things we deem to be going on today as
unconstitutional, such as Obama's eligibility, executive branch power
grabs, lack of a federal budget being submitted in over three years,
surrendering sovereignty to the UN, etc., the progressive strategy put
into motion in the early 1900's has been the perfect evil plot. The
slow, decades long, creeping away from constitutional adherence has
finally reached its apex. In fact, the struggle to wrest back the
Republic from the grips of Marxism may be too late. The trap has already
closed.

Here are the scenarios:
1. Obama wins a second term,
the GOP holds the house but does not take the Senate. In this result,
we all know that the leftist agenda marches on, and the sky is the limit
for Obama.

2. Mitt Romney wins in a landslide. The GOP wins the
house and the Senate , but fails to get a filibuster proof majority. The
damage done to the economy can not be turned around quickly. Massive
cuts to the budget cause mayhem amongst the dependency class. The
midterms come around and the GOP loses both houses of congress, due to
the lack of patience of the population, which has been stuck in high
unemployment, massive home foreclosures, and soaring consumer prices for
the past SIX YEARS STRAIGHT.

Either way...the socialist / progressive / Marxist long term assault plan.....wins. Game Over.

Romney and The Rest of Us

Over the last week or so, the news coverage of Mitt Romney has mostly
been focused on non-issues, such as whether or not Mitt's wife has
"worked a day in her life" and the treatment of a family dog some years
ago, etc. On a more important note, I learned this past week that
Romney's chief economic policy advisor is a Keynesian economics
professor from Harvard. This is a very real issue. Progressive cancer.
The establishment republicans are giddy with their success.
Yet....Romney is up against the guy that has governed over the worst
economy since the Great Depression BUT CAN ONLY TIE OBAMA in nearly
every poll.

Today, I hear that Jeb Bush would consider being on
the Romney ticket. Isn't that just swell? While everyone is distracted
with the VP pick rumors, I can not help but think that I can not tell
you one single issue that Romney is pushing in his campaign. NOT ONE!
Where is the slogan we should be chanting? Where is the simple message
that we should be sharing with everyone we meet to push this moron to
the finish line? Where are Romney's surrogates on all the week-end shows
touting his "wonderful " plan for our future? Has anyone else noticed
this jarring reality?

Romney has the establishment John McCain

he can muster, yet he refuses to embrace anything conservative! I can

President of the United States. Think about the mess this country is
currently in, and I wonder, who in their right mind would want to even
try to fix such an enormous array of problems. Four years of radical
change (real deep spending cuts) will be painful. The cure will be
necessary, but will take too much time to begin seeing results right
away. The next President (that beats Obama) will not enjoy popularity
for long, when the reality of the cure becomes apparent to all.

Really,
who in the world would want to go through the gauntlet of slime it
takes to win the nomination and then face the opposition and their
ruthless buzz saw of misinformation? Who would want to subject their
family to such things? Is it a desire for power? for historical fame?
for fortune for life?

My hope is that the reason would be for the

The excitement and passion felt early on for the outsider, Herman Cain, has fizzled along with his campaign. The Establishment and the liberal left, both got what they wanted-the elimination of a true game changer.

None of the GOP hopefuls left have created any excitement or buzz. Once again the conservatives in the party have been sidelined and told to just go with the candidate that is vanilla enough to satisfy the existing "business as usual good ole' boy country club Republicans". Karl Rove must be proud. The only guy left that can ruin the blue-blood pompous establishment is Ron Paul. The "destroy the front-runner" plan is about to be unleashed on Mr. Paul, just wait and watch.

Whatever the outcome from here, the conservative wing of the GOP has some serious issues to resolve. To regain control of the party and steer America more to the right will be a monumental test of the power of the Tea Party. This will result in either a bloodletting and purge of the ranks, or a massive failure and setback of right wing goals for a long, long, time.
This was a trip given to us as a gift from my parents, for Christmas. I knew my wife was really excited to see the colonial themed tourist attraction all dolled up for the holidays, so we went, arriving Sunday evening.

As we spent the last couple of days wandering around the old homes and exhibits, it was easy to slip back into the "yester-year" frame of mind. We had a wonderful time, the re-enactors were always in character, the activities were always entertaining and enlightening. But nothing could have prepared me for what I witnessed Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the morning.

As the cold wind blew, and the sun struggled to dry the dew from the wooden benches in the Palace Gardens, a visit with Thomas Jefferson touched my soul. For nearly an hour, a re-enactor portraying this founding father, captured Jefferson's magnificance perfectly. The crowd of about a hundred that attended this program were, as I was, simply amazed.

Jefferson spoke, without notes (or a teleprompter) on natural law, the unalienable rights of man, and liberty. He spoke of the laws of man, corruption in the political sphere and the remedies for true freedom to be achieved. He also spoke on slavery and emancipation. He spoke on freedom of worship and the separation of church and state, among other things as well, receiving loud applause over and over.

The reaction of the audience, myself included, was almost a revival sensation. It was as if I was really there, hearing of these revolutionary words for the first time. There simply isn't anything like HEARING Jefferson's words, vs reading them in a book. The words were uplifting, inspiring, motivating, all the while akin to feeling like one witnessing history. For me, it was also humbling.

If you have never been, I highly recommend a visit to this place. It just may change your life and your outlook on the future, as it sure did for me.

Honesty vs Presentation

Would you rather

Whether it be in a rural setting or a suburban area, these are the two most desirable locations for most folks. Peaceful living, smaller, less congested schools, roads, and shopping are usual benefits found in the ideal neighborhood. Not so fast! The United Nations passed a program known as Agenda 21, that claims to override the U.S.Constitution and has been quietly embraced by our government. This program will effectively dictate how neighborhoods and future housing developments will be planned, all in the notion that central planning is for everyone's best interest.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/10/un_agenda_21_coming_to_a_neigh.html

Population density will be planned as well as "diversity of income levels" for the inhabitants. No longer will people have the freedom to choose WHO they wish to live near. Social engineering will force section 8 housing to be built even in formerly affluent neighborhoods. Zoning regulations will be the primary weapon used to accomplish this task. Also, businesses planning to locate in certain areas will have to pass zoning regulations requiring certain population densities in the area and how diverse those populations are, how much "affordable housing" is being served by the business, and how many similar businesses are in the area, etc. Make no mistake, this program is designed to severely limit private property rights and force the concentration of the population into city-like densities. This allows the government the ability to move populations around and push them towards the bigger cities. Once that is accomplished, then the goals of mass transit for everyone can be achieved, automobiles will become less of a necessity, and a myriad of other left-leaning goals can be more easily implemented. This is, indeed, the framework being laid for a socialistic, utopian dream state, and it can be found in every state, town and community in the country.

In Defense of the Rich

Vilification of the rich is the one dead horse that the left continues

Marxist principles prevail, the rich do disappear in the private sector,

The protesters say they will never leave. Their demands were just made public, and were quite juvenile. To be brief, these guys want free everything, all balances on loans and debts of every kind worldwide declared forgiven, all rich people to give up their wealth, the end of capitalism, and a new Star Trek society to emerge. Michael Moore has been sighted amongst the mob, sweating profusely basking in the glory of communist revolution. The union thugs are said to be en route to join in the festivities, too. We all know that the goal of this group is nothing more than agitation. The more radical the participants, the more likely anarchy will come. Somehow, this is all supposed to make sense in the end and lead to social justice (cough, cough), and the world will be "fair" for all. All of this is quite laughable and completely unnecessary. Those who are in the mob are clueless as to how they are being turned into useful idiots, believing that they will change the world and trigger the dawning of a new Utopian age. The opposite will be the result. Social revolutions have been tried over and over in Europe and around the world, yet Utopia never emerges. If freedom loving patriots defend the liberties that have been given us by our forefathers, the Marxist lie of "equal everything" will will die in the streets of New York.

Just Another Statistic, This Time It's Me

New days and new leadership can not come soon enough for our country. Yesterday I learned that despite all the belt tightening and frugality we could muster, my wife and I will be losing our house. Simple math along with harsh reality got us here. Looking back to last January, it is amazing that we made it this long. But with unemployment and extended healing time from my knee injury making my return to work unlikely this year, the monthly bills finally overwhelmed the home budget. Thankfully we have a place to go and a place to begin all over again at our own pace. Clearly we have it a lot better than most folks losing their homes due to this economy. Things will improve with time and with the grace of God and family we will recover. In the meantime I will continue to blog away and watch this year wind down and next year come, bringing new hopes and new dreams.

David vs Goliath

Establishment Republicans are desperately trying to save their position as the ones that dictate who the next primary winner will be. For many moons, the establishment types basked in the glory of crowning the next "king" by a system of seniority, a la Dole and McCain, or by political connection, as represented by G.W.Bush. Presently, the preferred stock includes Romney and Perry. There is a problem, though, for the establishment this time. Despite all the well placed DC beltway professional GOP advocates, constantly droning on about the two man race in every media outlet, the momentum has shifted away from Romney and Perry. The Tea Party effect is turning the status quo on its ear. Big money is not controlling the poll results or the debate results. As the campaigns roll on, a self made successful businessman in a rented bus, on a shoestring budget is rising to the top of the field and now is within reach of changing the game altogether. The likes of Carl Rove and Bill Kristol are beside themselves. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Will Herman Cain make it all the way? Time will tell. The business of dirty politics will almost certainly be on display in the next few weeks and months, with the sole goal of derailing the Cain Train. The federal government made this clear, and it was a condition that had to be met to get the big bail-out money. As the Obama administration tries to push its jobs bill forward, Americans should be able to reasonably expect that GM and the auto worker's union were already doing their part to boost this nation's ailing economy. As fate would have it, Chevy Volt sales are nearly non-existent. The idea arises that maybe GM could sell more Volts if they were available in booming markets like....say...China. Nice, right? Well here is the rub. The price of the Volt is too high for the Chinese market, so the Chinese government would have to offer a $20,000 "going green" subsidy PER CAR to make the Volt affordable enough. Ummm, Okay, that should do it, right? Not quite. Next, the Chinese will only accept the Volt in their marketplace if GM SHARES its EV technology so Chinese automakers would be able to produce competing vehicles. Gosh that seems a little much don't you think? Not really. To seal the deal, GM has agreed to share the technology AND build the Volts going to China in........wait for it.......China. Everyone was surprised and caught off guard by the news. For once the media didn't get their wishes for the two man show that they have been shamelessly promoting for weeks. The fact is, conservative Republicans do not want establishment politicians any longer. They want someone that will be a strong, Constitution-minded, pro- American economy, restoration leader. Someone untainted by beltway corruption. Someone with a positive message. Someone you can vote FOR. The mainstream media (even Fox News) are already trying to turn Cain's victory into a story about Perry and "what he can do to stay on top". PPfffffftttttt. The brazen way the media picks sides is nauseating. Personally, I am hoping for a candidate like Cain to prevail come primary season. Finally, the people got to control the questions via the Youtube contest instead of the talking head media. The result was that the candidates were given the opportunity to show who they are and what they believe in a much simpler, easy to understand way. There was little in the way of "gotcha" journalistic questions and more of the "what would you do" kind. This made for a much more entertaining and enlightening debate. Some of the lesser known candidates actually got to share a little of the limelight and get their views out there. Who knew that Gary Johnson could deliver a good zinger? (I nearly choked on my popcorn on his one-liner). Herman Cain looked very good and did very well for himself. The two front runners, Perry and Romney went back and forth as expected, both coming across as junior high bullies. Huntsman still has his weird pompous demeanor, but actually did well, I thought. Newt, Bachmann, and Paul all did well, but didn't get as much air time as the rest. That was my only complaint with this format. And finally Santorum had a pretty good night, finding his way into the lively side of more than a few of the arguments.
While there are pro's and con's to all of the contenders, the time to narrow the field is a lot closer. If there are any other potential candidates wanting to jump in, now is the time. Most folks have an idea of who they want to get the nomination, its just a waiting game from here to the primary. There will be some that will step on a few political land mines before they get there and a few that will just fizzle. Either way, Obama is doomed in 2012.

Lemonade and Cook Outs

It is easy to get caught up in the politics of an over reaching federal government. Let's just say that there is almost a daily example of the attack on our liberties on any major news outlet. There is, however, another front that needs to be watched even more closely. The local front is ignored and dismissed by many, but it is at the root of the problem, which eventually evolves to the federal level. It is where the ideas of central control of everyday lives are born. A good example of this is the rash of cases of towns and cities cracking down on lemonade stands. The blame for this trend has been placed on the declining revenues of municipalities and their zest to make up shortfalls. Me thinks something more sinister may be at hand. A story from California demonstrates my suspicion. Here is the story:
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/09/20/oc-couple-threatened-with-500-per-meeting-fines-for-home-bible-study/
Apparently this town has a law prohibiting the gathering of more than 3 guests at your home on a recurring or often basis. Say wha? So this means that if you have a group of friends over to your house to watch football every Sunday, you would technically be in violation of this law. What about if you have friends over every Friday night to cook out? Think about the endless possibilities of the enforcement of this law. In the case in California, it has been used against a couple that have a weekly Bible study class at their home. There is also the attack on the Constitutional level here regarding freedom of religion. Note , in this particular case, there was no complaints from neighbors.
Tyranny begins in subtle ways. It is up to all of us to stand up against the attempted elimination of our freedoms. The next time you see a lemonade stand, stop and buy an extra cup for me.

Politics, War Expansion, Create-A-State, and Exploding Turbans

Okay, it's been one of those weird news days. It is when you realize how long this scenario is likely to last that anger and misery sets in. With all the huffing and puffing going on in Washington about who is at fault , the reality is that under the current occupants of power , both in the White House and in Congress, things will only get worse for the foreseeable future. 2012 is a long ways away when you do not have a job. I can attest to that. The only logical short term solution is to drastically cut back on everything, sell off as much as you can, help as many others in the same situation as you can, rely on friends and family as much as possible and settle in for the long haul. Dismantling a spend crazy establishment in DC is no small task, and the jobs market will only improve when the evil in power is removed and replaced with common sense and Constitutional values. Meanwhile, the world of barter and self survival will rule the land.

Fighting with Crack Addicts

Money and media are driving the results of the supposed front runners in the Republican primary field. Romney has the big pockets. Perry , who the media obviously wants to be front and center, has the weird personality and ability to cause constant controversy. Everyone else is purposely ignored. Once again, the media is attempting to pick the Republican candidate (a la McCain) rather than allowing the party to sort out the front runner through a series of debates. The establishment Republican machine in Washington also contributes to the push for a vanilla candidate through fund raisers that almost never benefit the conservative wing of the party.
Fear of the return to smaller, Constitutional governance is the common denominator for all the above mentioned culprits, both from the left and the right. The love of absolute power is as strong of an addiction as crack cocaine, and Washington is full of power addicts.
The fight for more coverage and support for the rest of the candidate field must come from the people and we should be relentless in this pursuit. Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul deserve to be fully heard, explored, and tested all the way to primary day. To allow money and media to make these decisions for us would be disastrous. The next time you watch the evening news, notice the two names that you hear on the topic of the Republican hopefuls, and imagine all the crack pipes lighting up....

I am not afraid.

There is a new "tool" in the shed of liberal nanny-ism. AttackWatch is the name and it is yet another snitch site on the web where someone can report acts of truth telling (talking bad about Obama, exposing administration lies/faults, general opposition to Obama policies, etc.). Surely this post will end up on this tattle-tale site. Yes, I am guilty of having opposing views of the Obama administration, because I happen to believe in freedom of speech and liberty. My ramblings here on this blog are my opinions and solely belong to me. I share my thoughts freely to anyone that cares or is curious. This is still America the last time I checked and until the men in dark suits come to pay a visit, I will continue to opine.
Looking back a few years, the blogging world was completely dominated by those on the left. The Huffington Post is one example of how large and in charge these guys were, and I can recall quite a few attack blogs on President G.W. Bush, coming directly from the HuffPo site. I do not recall anyone on the right creating a snitch site for reporting "Bush bashing". Conservatives generally respond to negative attacks against them by simply defending themselves in the press and the public via town halls, speeches, newspaper editorials, interviews, etc., rather than collecting names and information about those who oppose them. Hit lists are for mobsters.
The Republic is under attack. Freedom and liberty have been targeted as "the enemy". In the rush for fundamental change of our country, few here realized just how deep the change was going to be. As long as there are folks that can speak freely, we as a nation have a chance to save this republic. Failure to defend our values, our Constitution, our liberties, and our way of life would be no less than treason.
