Sony Computer Entertainment of America chief executive Jack Tretton this month said PS3 and its portable cousin, the PSP, are selling faster than expected and are poised to meet full-year sales targets even if the current economic crisis hurts holiday demand.

Nintendo Wii

Last year this time there were more frustrated shoppers who waited in line for hours to get their hands on a Nintendo Wii. Many disappointed as they found out shops ran out of stock.

This year Nintendo America hopes that there will be no shortage during the holiday season. Nintendo is increasing shipments for both Wii, and Nintendo DS by 50 percent between October to December.

Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says “If we were to get in a car right now and go to 100 retail locations in the San Francisco area, we would not be able to find a Wii in at least 60 of those stores. Our hope is that by next week, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and on Dec. 23, you’ll be able to find a Wii.”

According to Chart Track, FIFA 09 has taken top spot in the UK software sales chart for the week ended on October 4. FIFA 09 pushed Star Wars: The Force Unleashed down a place to number two, with sales declining 40 per cent from last week. Game outsold last year’s game by 37.05 percent. Xbox version contributed towards to the success.

Even before the official release, crackers have cracked FIFA 09 and now it’s available in many P2P file sharing sites. FIFA 09 is launched on October 2nd in AUS, October 3rd in Europe and due to release in October 14 in North America.

Other than FIFA, there isn’t a single new entry in the Top Ten, with Sega’s Samba De Amigo the only other new entry in the Top 20. Bizarrely,

Manhunt 2

Many UK games are eagerly waiting for the release of Manhunt 2. Rockstar Games has confirmed that Manhunt 2 UK release date has finally been agreed. Game will hit the market on October 31.

One year ago, the game was released in U.S. but for some reason it was refused and delayed in UK. Earlier British Board of Film Classification said “unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone”. After talks and negotiations it was awarded an 18 certificate.

Now Manhunt 2 will be released for PS2, Wii and PSP on October. Existing review scores are also likely to work against Manhunt 2, which is shackled to a less than impressive average score of just 66/100 on leading review aggregation Web site Metacritic.com

Wii Speak

We need to wait till the end of next year for the new Nintendo DSi handheld. Today Nintendo announced wide range of new features, services, and games for North America that will be launched for the coming holiday season.

A new online chat system will come for Nintendo Wii on November 16th, which is named as “Wii Speak”. Wii Speak Channel (internet connection required) will allow Wii owners to voice chat with up to four other Wii owners online (’four individual locations’ strictly says Nintendo).

The cost of this gadget is 7,800 Japanese Yen (approx 40 GBP) and it’ll hit stores in Japan on 20 November. Wii Speak hardware will be retailed separately in North America on November 16 at $29.99 (£15), with a code included which allows users to download the chat software for free via the Wii Shop channel.

A European release is expected to follow in the future.

This week Nintendo announced the Nintendo DSi, an upgrade to the Nintendo DS which includes a camera and bigger screen. Now internet is whispering about an upgraded Nintendo Wii due out in 2011 or 2010. Nintendo is developing a high-definition model of its Wii console, which has sold more than 30 million units globally.

Though no official announcement has been made, it is of course very natural for Nintendo to step up the graphics power of the Wii in the next generation of the hyper successful console. The Wii HD is also rumored to feature a high-capacity hard drive for the storage and streaming.

The Wii HD is supposed to be able to handle digital content - a function that the Xbox 360 and the PS3 do today and for sure even more important in 2011 than today. Don’t expect any announcement
soon, however – with the Wii still enjoying phenomenal success, it would be unlikely that Nintendo would want to spoil the party time.

BioShock Cover

Soon Bioshock game will be available on PS3, which once sent Xbox 360 sales into orbit last year. The demo for the Bioshock game is available online to download on the PlayStation network. Full version of the game is scheduled to release on October 21.

Bioshock was designed by Ken Levine of 2K Games and released for Xbox 360 and PC in August 2007. Story is set in 1960, where a plane crash survivor explores the underwater world. There he faces attacks of mutants and mechanical drones.

For PS3 gamers, there are five new demos spanning several genres for you to check out: NBA 2K9, Eternal Sonata,Beijing 2008, and Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. Check out PlayStation online store.

In the new video game, it eventually leads to a “memorial wall” which lists the names of 87 detainees who have died since 2003, including Mr. Bah.

It is said that 2007/2008 is the best year for gamers.
