Renovations are close to completion on Milwaukee's North Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse tower restoration was completed in Feburary 2006 with the keepers quarters exterior just recently finished. This is a recent image of the progress taking place in the renovation of the North Point Lighthouse on Milwaukee's east side. Construction began on the lighthouse in 1854 on a bluff in the area which is now known as Lake Park. Soon after construction was completed it was noticed that the bluff in front of the lighthouse was eroding very quickly. By 1881 the erosion had advanced enough that the lighthouse and the foundation of the tower were threatened. With an appropriation from Congress in 1885 land was purchased just to the west for the building of a new lighthouse. Construction began in July 1887 at the new location and was completed in December 1887. As time passed the lighthouse was soon obscured by trees and a increasing number of city lights decreasing its effectiveness. Also improvements to the breakwater and pierhead lighthouses questioned the need for the North Point Lighthouse. In June 0f 1907 the lighthouse was decommissioned and the light extinguished. After heavy debates continued about the loss of the light with city, government, and maritime officials it was determined to raise the existing tower above the tree line which was completed in 1912. The light was lit until 1994, the lens was removed and the station permanently decommissioned. After many years of disrepair a local preservation group was formed in 2002 with plans to restore the site. As work continues on the restoration efforts today a target date for completion has been set for the Fall of 2007.
The ConstructionSiteStock team was out and about in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward following the progress of the 301 N. Broadway building. Formerly the A. Gagliano & Co. 3 story produce warehouse is being converted to 36,000 sq. ft. of office and retail space. Recently announced, Anthropologie, an upscale retail chain for women, will open its first Wisconsin store in the building, marking the first entry of a national apparel chain to the Historic Third Ward. The store should be opened by early next year.
Documented (images taken on July 28, 2007) by Mark R. Bertieri of the Milwaukeestock.com and Constructionsitestock.com staff a historical landmark on the Milwaukee skyline, the Pabst Brewery is undergoing a complete transformation. In a historical perspective a few of the distinctive features of this series of buildings are slowly being dismantled. From the noted Pabst labeled smokestack and the neon lit rotating sign to the brewing kettles and infrastructure. In a review of the renovation plans available on the Zilber LTD (the new owners) web site really does not provide much detail as to the historic restoration. I would hope that they will be take the past into account in some of the developments details. Please view our Pabst Brewery slideshow for current images.
The Constructionsitestock.com team recently shot this image of Advanced Restoration out of Port Washington performing services for the St. John's United Church of Christ on the corner of Donges Bay Rd. and Fond Du Lac Ave. in Germantown. The church is undergoing work on its steeple, roof, and general tuckpointing repairs. Advanced Restoration is well known throughout SE Wisconsin for their restoration services on religious facilities. Earlier this year they completed a large project at Holly Hill in Hubertus.
The Constructionsitestock.com teams of photographers was granted special access to First Place on the River, a condo/retail development at 1st & Seeboth currently under construction this past week. We would like to thank all parties involved. The buildings location affords an excellent view of the construction progress at the Harley Davidson Museum at Sixth and Canal Streets near downtown Milwaukee on the Menomonee River. The museum has a completion date of 2008 while First Place on the River is scheduled be ready by Fall 2007. We have set up a gallery, First Place on the River if you are interested in a few different views from the complex including images of downtown Milwaukee and The Historic Third Ward.

The Bradley Center located on 4th St. in downtown Milwaukee is the home of the Milwaukee Bucks (NBA), Marquette Golden Eagles (NCAA), and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL). Built in 1988 the arena also hosts various concerts and special events such as figure skating, rodeos, and motocross to name a few.

Located on the 23 floor it offers wonderful views of the city, lakefront, and Lake Michigan. Built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister and his son Charles the hotel has been a landmark on Milwaukee's east side for over 100 years. It is also listed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
As usual, the construction activity in Milwaukee is beginning to increase as Spring approaches and ConstructionSitestock.com is there. These two images show some tuckpointing on the building at 751 N. Broadway. The work is being done by Holton Brothers out of Grafton, WI. Holton Brothers is a well known, top quality restoration contractor whose work extends all along the coast of Lake Michigan from Port Washington to Chicago. A family owned company with experience in the restoration, caulking, & waterproofing trades, Holton Brothers has been in business for over 30 years.
At this location during the latter part of the 19th Century was Adam Roth's Quiet House saloon. The saloon was the corner of what was called Newspapers Row. The 3rd floor was home to the Milwaukee Press Club. Still existing is the 222 East Mason St. Building which was the beginning of the Daily Journal later known as The Milwaukee Journal.

Milwaukee St. The building was orginally constructed for the Wisconsin Central Railroad. Taken on a chilly, spring day one image is looking south and the other is looking north. In the south view you can see the Hotel Metro and the Quarles & Brady Buildings. In the north view in the distance is the MSOE Campus along with the new development, Covent Hill. Both images have been added to the Milwaukeestock.com General Images 3 Gallery.
