Over 1,200 Attendees at Content World 2009: The Recap

With the dust settling behind such a whirlwind week, we're happy to say that Content World welcomed over 1,200 attendees at our annual event. A big thanks to all customers, partners and staff for the great participation.

Conference highlights of the five day event include:

The annual Partner Day for Open Text partners.
A training program which featured over 30 workshops and courses and 360 enrollments.
A standing ovation for the keynote address from Wired Magazine's Rave Award Winner, Dr. Michael Wesch.
The 2009 GlobalStar Enterprise and ECM Champion Awards, celebrating individual and Enterprise Award winners.
The General Session from Open Text executives on corporate vision and product strategy, plus a product launch and roadmap release.

Manage Your Breakouts Online

Before you leave for Content World, take a moment to pre-plan your conference agenda. See the available suggested paths for Industry or Product and Solutions, or go straight to the breakout sessions and add them to Your Calendar. While you're planning your agenda, why not import your sessions to your Outlook Calendar? Beside every breakout session is the option to add the session as an iCalendar file.

Adding sessions ahead of time enables you to:

- Easily see session information on your mobile device calendar

- Keep track of room location onsite

- Drop or swap sessions that you have pre-registered for

- Find out whether a session is full.

Add breakout sessions to your Outlook Calendar by logging in today.

Less than 3 weeks to go until Content World

We're less than three weeks away from our largest annual event and the momentum is STILL building. Our headquarters is a buzz with last minute details to make this the most memorable conference we've ever held.

If you are still pondering attending then here are a few points to consider. We have a great keynote speaker lined up for our Tuesday Gala Dinner in Michael Wesch. 145 breakout sessions are locked down including an interesting mix of customer case studies and roadmaps to technical overviews and panel discussions. Over 30 training sessions and workshops bookend the program. Industry receptions on the Tuesday evening and Industry peer-to-peer meetings on the Friday morning provide excellent time for peer networking. We've also extended the hours of our Content Experts pavilion on the Tuesday, so those coming in early can have some one-on-one time with Open Text staff and partners. Our Innovation lab offers some great usability tests and focus group sessions that you can sign up for on site. Countdown to Content World

Well, we are now just six weeks away from the big week of Content World and the final preparations are underway for the pre-conference Workshops and Courses. A couple laptops from Orlando arrived in Waterloo last week and are currently getting the training images placed on them. These core images will then be ghosted out to the couple hundred computers that we have set-up for the conference training. The manuals are being written by the instructors and consultants who will be delivering the training sessions and soon we will place a huge order with our printer to have hundreds of manuals printed and shipped down to Orlando. It is quite a big undertaking and one that requires teamwork, organization and strategizing to ensure it all comes together as planned - and I love every minute of it!

Our most popular courses are filling up fast but still have a few spots available that we hope to fill with students keen to arm themselves with knowledge and new skills and add value to their respective organizations. Content World Keynote Speaker Announced

I've been working on this one for months, so I am very excited to announce our Keynote speaker. Dr. Michael Wesch, dubbed "the explainer" by Wired magazine is an award winning cultural anthropologist and professor at the University of Kansas. His insights on the global effect of social media and digital technology have been seen by millions.

New Distance Learning Course Launched

Learning Services has just launched a new Distance Learning course: dL101 Knowledge Fundamentals. We are pretty excited about this course since it is the first to combine self-paced learning, instructor facilitation, and a virtual sandbox for exercises. Now a core course in our training curriculum does not require travel!

While the benefits of training in class with a live instructor cannot be matched in an online training environment, the Learning Services group has worked hard to ensure that a top-notch training program is available to our customers in these difficult economic times. Sign up for dL101 before the conference and you will attain a key pre-requisite for a number of our Content World training offerings, including U-TR-120 Workflow Design I and U-TR-420 Business Consultant Certification. If you prefer the live interaction with an instructor, we are also offering the equivalent course U-TR-101 Knowledge Fundamentals (Accelerated) onsite at Content World.

3 Ways to Increase Your Value to Your Organization

When I'm trying to decide if I want to attend a particular forum or conference, the main question to answer is, 'Will I come back armed with practical knowledge that I can implement right away to help my organization (AND my career path)?" Welcome Vignette and Captaris Attendees

Last week I attended an internal Open Text event and ran into so many faces that brought up memories of prior user conferences. This year represents my 9^th Open Text conference, during which I've held roles from breakout presenter , to facilitator of birds of a feather sessions, to designing the overall training program and now my second year of driving the overall program.

What I've seen during this time is tremendous growth from the attendee size, but also a growth in what we have to offer our customers: A mix of technical or business focused breakout sessions, training offerings, networking opportunities and our corporate vision and product strategy.

A larger part of that growth comes from the new members of the Open Text family. This year I am very excited to welcome those attendees from Captaris and Vignette. We have developed specific content designed for you at the conference and as of today our Captaris attendees will be able to find many specifically targeted sessions in addition to seeing all that Open Text has to offer. This same type of program will be in place for Vignette attendees in the coming weeks.

There is value for you at Content World. At the same time, you are part of that value. Sharing your experiences with your peers, whether over a coffee or as a breakout presentation, is what makes this event so great. I look forward to seeing you all in Orlando this October.

Workshops and Courses at Content World 2009

Once again, we have a full slate of Workshop and Course offerings to enable you to capitalize on your time in Orlando AND on your Open Text investment. With a wide range of standard offerings, new workshops that are unique to Content World and the opportunity for Certification, there's a wide range of options to choose from.

All workshops and courses at Content World are led by senior technical educators and consultants with years of experience. The majority of the courses are hands-on with a computer (we bring in more than 300 for the event!) provided for each participant, while other workshops are taught in a round-table format. Both types engage students with interactive exercises to strengthen your learning experience.

Why take training and how do you justify the costs of training to your organization? With the current challenging economic climate, it can be difficult to have funds allocated for learning and skills development. Research shows that having well trained employees who know how to do their jobs pays off in the long term and dramatically improves organizational. Things keeping moving along for us and we are months ahead of where we've ever been. I know there is more pressure on budgets this year, so I want to get you details earlier to enable you to justify your attendance now so you can take advantage of our best pricing options.

You will notice that we've published the track details here to give you an idea of how our program will be organized and how it's relevant to you. These track overviews are just a first step towards a more detailed set of session overviews. Right now we are reviewing session topics, looking at feedback from previous years and getting an understanding of the key items that are important to you and your business in this economy. I realize how many of you want to know what the detailed sessions are going to be in order to make your decision, so we want to have those available to you quickly.
